Xinhua Silk Road: Summer music feast draws crowds of attendees in "Ice City" in NE. China
Opened on June 27, the 37th Harbin Summer Music Festival co-hosted by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Harbin municipal government offers locals and visitors a fantastic chance to revel in the charm of music.
The festival, which sets seven sections including the opening shows, national-level performances and the "Capital of East Asian Culture"-themed art week, will last till September this year.
Among its diverse activities, there are three international musical contests, namely the 2025 Schoenfeld International String Competition, the 20th World Saxophone Congress and the 7th Harbin International Accordion Art Week.
In the Chinese city, also an ideal summer retreat, other 79 Chinese and foreign thematic performances are either ongoing or underway now, not to mention the 3,000-plus on-agenda artistic activities for mass amusement.
With an around century-long musical history and cultural heritages integrating both oriental and western cultures, Harbin boasts an enchanting aura and unique charms, said Peter Paul Kainrath, president of World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC).
This year, Kainrath hoped WFIMC's annual meeting held in Harbin could be a good start for it to maintain close and friendly exchanges with Harbin and other Chinese cities, expecting dialogues and cooperation in a wide range of sectors.
As one of the cradles of Chinese modern music, Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province in northeast China, is endeavoring to illuminate different cultures through the catchy and diverse music of its summer music festival.

He also said that the next Dalai Lama should be and recognized as per past Buddhist traditions. On Saturday, the Dalai Lama said he hoped to live until the age of 130. In the past, the Dalai Lama has said his successor will be born in the 'free world' — outside China. China's first Legoland opens to tourists in Shanghai
Thousands of local tourists poured into China's first-ever Legoland as it opened its gates in Shanghai on Saturday, the latest theme park hoping to capitalise on a domestic tourism boom. The Chinese branch of the British-owned theme park franchise is the biggest Legoland in the world. It drew in early customers who flocked to attractions including a miniature train ride and a dragon-themed rollercoaster. 'I personally love to play with Lego blocks and we have many sets at home… so I wanted to come to Legoland at the earliest opportunity,' said Shi, a 35-year-old resident of nearby city Hangzhou, who was visiting the park with his wife and child. World's largest Legoland opens to tourists in Shanghai
SHANGHAI (AP) — Visitors were welcomed by a giant Lego man over 26 meters (85 feet) tall named Dada as they arrived at the new Legoland resort in Shanghai. The Legoland resort, which opened Saturday, is the first in China. It is the largest Legoland in the world and was built with 85 million Lego bricks. The resort was developed in conjunction with the Shanghai government by Merlin Entertainments and the LEGO Group. Monday Mornings The latest local business news and a lookahead to the coming week. Among the main attractions in the resort is Miniland, which replicates well-known sights from across the world using Lego bricks. Visitors were greeted by performances featuring Legoland characters. Tickets range from $44 (319 yuan) to $84 (599 yuan).
