'Stuff of dreams' for Longelo as late equaliser rewards sticking to plan
Emmanuel Longelo admits his late equaliser on his league debut for the club was the "stuff of dreams" as Motherwell produced a stirring second-half display to earn an opening day Premiership point against Rangers. The Ibrox side had taken an early lead through James Tavernier's close range header from a corner with the home team initially struggling to implement the style of play manager Jens Berthel Askou all changed after half-time with Motherwell perhaps unlucky not to earn a long-awaited home league win over Rangers."I feel like it was a deserved outcome," Longelo explained to BBC Scotland."We stuck to the manager's game plan very well, even though at times it wasn't working well for us. I felt like the boys dug in and I we should have had the victory."He [Berthel-Askou] just kept telling us to believe in ourselves and believe in our qualities. He keeps mentioning to us in training that we're top players and we just have to have that self-belief every time we're on the training pitch and we step out here to just keep believing in ourselves.""I felt like if we took our chances, more clinically in the end, we would have had the three points, but it's a stepping stone for us."At half-time, questions were being posed as to whether Motherwell's, at times, risky desire to play out from the back might be costing them against such opposition. It cost them the opening goal but sticking with it paid off as the home side increasingly took the game to Rangers."It will definitely boost the morale, boost the belief, so our fans can buy into it," the striker continued. "Once they buy into it, it will help us each and every time we step out on this pitch or whenever we travel away. "As long as we keep at it and keep doing what the manager wants us to do, then they'll [the fans] get on board and it will all come together."

'A glimmer of light' - fan views on Ramsdale
We asked for your reaction to Aaron Ramsdale's move to Newcastle on a season-long loan from are some of your comments:Richard: What we really need between the sticks is a keeper with decent feet. Pope and Dubravka are very good shot stoppers but if you ever wondered what a stadium full of people sharply intaking their breath sounds like then go to St. James Park when Nick Pope gets a back pass! Modern keepers are expected to be able to distribute with their feet like another defender to break opponents' press. If Ramsdale's up to that then he's got my Ramsdale is a quality keeper, just entering his prime with a great deal of experience. He'll learn a lot at Newcastle and should realise his Well liked by the fans who liked his enthusiasm and drive. Slightly bonkers at times but aren't all goalkeepers? Not good at fast long throws and not naturally two Aaron played for the Blades a few seasons ago. He was brilliant and marked out even then as a future England keeper. He likes being part of a passionate northern club and will fit in very Ramsdale is the pragmatic transfer after Trafford chose Man City. He represents a positive, pragmatic choice in getting a proven English keeper who can replace or provide competition for Pope. A glimmer of light in what is looking like a dismal window for Definitely play Ramsdale. Pope is a calamity. Every time the ball is played back to him we feel trepidation. Ramsdale is so much better. I'd keep Dubravka and try to sell Pope. Move onwards.

I hit a lot of fairways at the start. I think my first one that I missed was on 14, I was just hitting it really good and holing some putts. "And then just coming in on those tough holes - 16 and 17 - they caught me out. Those are my bogeys but happy with the round." On the experience of her Women's Open debut: "It's amazing. I knew the wind was going to pick up, especially on the back nine, so I tried to take advantage of the front which I was able to do. "Holes 10 through 12 was a pretty nice stretch, and I knew 14 through 17 was going to be pretty tough. I was just trying to make pars on those holes. "I'm pretty happy with the way I played out there today." On her prospects of victory on Sunday: "I think there will be a little bit of extra pressure on whoever is the 54-hole leader. "Tomorrow is going to be pretty tough. Anything can happen out there. "I think anyone within five shots has a chance at this championship honestly, so I'm just going to try to keep my head down and stick to my own game plan and try not to look at the leaderboard and just play golf." Update: Date: 18:56 BST 2 August Title: Hull in contention Content: Hull -6 (66) Charley Hull's 66 today is her joint-lowest 18-hole score at the Women's Open, matching what she achieved in 2014 at Royal Birkdale. She was the runner-up behind Lilia Vu in 2023, having been the co-leader after three rounds at Walton Heath. Will tomorrow be the day that Hull wins a long-awaited first major title? Update: Date: 18:52 BST 2 August Title: Post Content: Gareth VincentBBC Sport Wales at Royal Porthcawl That will leave something of a sour taste for Miyu Yamashita on her birthday, as she misses a big opportunity for birdie on the last. Still, she leads the Women's Open going into Sunday, so it's not all bad news. But Yamashita has plenty of work to do if she is to get over the line, with a raft of players still in contention to win the final major of 2025. Update: Date: 18:52 BST 2 August Title: Yamashita leads by one overnight Content: Takeda -6 (74), Yamashita -9 (74) Sand splashes out of the left bunker as though Rio Takeda is builiding a sand sculpture but she successfully chips out and finds the lower tier of the green to give herself a tricky birdie putt. It's a left to right that is difficult to judge and her ball slips past the hole. A par will do nicely though. Miyu Yamashita's birdie putt could give her a two-stroke overnight lead but it is pacey and slides topside of the cup. That was a bad miss. She is nine shots worse off than Friday, albeit the windy conditions have played their part. Update: Date: 18:45 BST 2 August Title: Post Content: Takeda -6, Yamashita -9 (17) Miyu Yamashita is furthest away though and plays first. It's a chip and run that she leaves just below the pin to provide a slightly easier birdie putt. Update: Date: 18:44 BST 2 August Title: Post Content: Takeda -6, Yamashita -9 (17) Rio Takeda does not look happy. Her ball is close to the face of the sand trap and she'll have a tough escape. Update: Date: 18:43 BST 2 August Title: Post Content: Takeda -6, Yamashita -9 (17) Miyu Yamashita is struggling off the tee and finds the left rough on the 18th. That's probably preferable to the gorge down the right. She takes a hybrid and swishes her second across the fairway down towards the right of the putting surface. Her playing partner Rio Takeda is way further down the fairway and has a six iron in her hands. She is going to take the green on but her ball nestles in one of the left bunkers. That was maybe a couple of yards off from being perfect. Update: Date: 18:34 BST 2 August Title: Post Content: Gareth VincentBBC Sport Wales at Royal Porthcawl That is the biggest cheer of the late evening at Royal Porthcawl. There were groans of concern around the 17th green as Miyu Yamashita's bunker shot came flying across the green. Then comes a roar of delight - and some surprise - as the leader saves par with that fabulous putt. Update: Date: 18:30 BST 2 August Title: Amazing par save from Yamashita Content: Takeda -6, Yamashita -9 (17) Miyu Yamashita is in trouble in a greenside bunker on the 17th and can only chip out to 30 feet or so. Surely not another bogey? No - the leader rattles in the putt down the slope and looks almost embarrassed by that. A sensational bunker shot from Rio Takeda is also rewarded with a par with a simple putt. Update: Date: 18:27 BST 2 August Title: Watch highlights later Content: AIG Women's Open BBC Two If you've missed any of today's action, you can watch highlights on BBC Two and the BBC iPlayer from 00:25 BST on Sunday. Friday's highlights programme is available via the 'Watch and listen' tab at the top of this page. Update: Date: 18:16 BST 2 August Title: Takeda & Yamashita toiling down closing stretch Content: Takeda -6, Yamashita -9 (16) Miyu Yamashita goes driver and three wood to reach the front of the 16th green but her birdie putt races past and she drops a shot when she can't sink the return. It's also a dropped shot for Rio Takeda, who catches the lip of the putt with her effort for par. Yamashita's lead is down to one. Update: Date: 18:15 BST 2 August Title: Kim lies second after bogey-free round Content: AL Kim -8 (67) A bogey-free round of 67 leaves A Lim Kim in second place on her own at the Women's Open. A great round of golf that we've probably not spoken about as much as we should have. Three birdies in the first six holes got the South Korean off to the perfect start and she made two more birdies coming home. If the other scores stay like this, she'll be in the final group in Sunday's final round at Royal Porthcawl. Update: Date: 18:03 BST 2 August Title: Post Content: Gareth VincentBBC Sport Wales at Royal Porthcawl There is a stiff breeze blowing right into the players' faces on 16. With the crowds thinning out a little at this stage in the day, it's the sounds of the wind and the waves rolling in a couple of hundred yards away which dominate. Update: Date: 18:02 BST 2 August Title: Post Content: Takeda -7, Yamashita -10 (15) Miyu Yamashita was expecting that to come back to the left but her putt stays right and she collects a par. Same scenario for Rio Takeda, who goes right and watches her ball stay off course. Update: Date: 18:00 BST 2 August Title: Listen live Content: AIG Women's Open 2025 BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 3 You can listen to radio coverage of the closing stages at Royal Porthcawl on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 3, BBC Sounds and via the link at the top of this page. Update: Date: 17:59 BST 2 August Title: Harry finishes in style Content: Harry E (74) Andrew RichardsBBC Sport Wales at Royal Porthcawl Darcey Harry gets a warm Welsh welcome from the crowd around the 18th green. She has a lengthy uphill putt for eagle but she leaves it too short. She makes sure of the resulting birdie putt and finishes a round of 74 on a high.
