PASIR PUTEH, June 28 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) are in the final stages of negotiations in preparation for the Sabah state election, said UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
He said negotiations with all relevant parties to face the election are actively ongoing.
'We are in talks with all parties. Insya-Allah, we will continue discussions with everyone. As the UMNO president (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) said, we have never completely shut the door, nor have we thrown it wide open,' he told reporters after opening the Pasir Puteh UMNO division delegates meeting here today.

Deputy Digital Minister Calls For AI Legislation To Be Expedited

SHAH ALAM, June 28 (Bernama) -- Specific legislation governing artificial intelligence (AI) must be expedited due to the growing negative impact of the technology, particularly in fraud-related crimes. Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said he was informed that between 2020 and 2024, AI-related crimes have resulted in an estimated global loss of around RM5 billion. 'I expect the AI legislation to be tabled this year so that we can tighten control and outline appropriate penalties for those who misuse this technology,' he said when met at the Gawai Kitai Ngiling Bidai 2025 celebration, here today. He was responding to questions regarding the misuse of AI technology, including incidents involving high-ranking government officials including former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and Johor Police Chief Datuk M Kumar S Muthuvelu. Acryl Sani and M Kumar had previously denied appearing in separate viral videos circulating on social media, which showed individuals resembling both of them allegedly receiving aid from a person bearing the title 'Datuk'. He said in response to this matter, his ministry is actively conducting awareness campaigns through the Digital Malaysia Tour programme to engage and educate the public, especially in rural areas, so that they do not fall victim to AI-related fraud. 'I have gone to Sabah, the interior of Kapit in Sarawak, and Penang to raise awareness among rural communities about the latest tactics and modus operandi of these criminals,' he said. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo was previously reported as saying that a full report on the proposed regulations and the possible enactment of specific legislation for AI would be submitted to his ministry by the end of this month. -- BERNAMA

Rep: Two new state constituencies needed if Baram undergoes redelineation

Dennis (front, sixth right) leads others in the cake-cutting ceremony. MIRI (June 28): Two new state constituencies (DUNs) will be needed to complement the proposed creation of two parliamentary seats in Baram, should a redelineation exercise take place, said Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau. He believes that the current Baram parliamentary constituency may be split into two, Upper Baram and Lower Baram. 'I don't know which part of Telang Usan will be carved out to form the new DUN, but perhaps we will find out during the special DUN sitting on July 7,' he said during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Telang Usan Women's Wing Mother's Day and Father's Day dinner on Friday. Dennis added that the existing Telang Usan, Mulu and Marudi state constituencies might be affected by the creation of a new DUN within the Baram parliamentary area – if this were to happen. 'It could involve taking small parts from each: some from Mulu, some from Telang Usan, and some from Marudi. 'However, I don't know the exact location. I've never been involved in any meetings discussing the proposed new DUN,' he confirmed. Dennis disclosed that a total of 17 new DUNs and nine new parliamentary seats had been proposed, noting that the matter would be debated before being submitted to the federal government. Moreover, Dennis also announced that Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas would be invited to witness first-hand the condition of the logging road from Baram to the Bario Highlands via a convoy scheduled for next week. 'The three-day convoy, which I will also be joining, will depart from Miri this July 1. 'YB Datuk Amar Douglas and the rest of the entourage will travel upriver from Miri to Bario using the Baram road, to see with our own eyes the condition of our road. 'We are thankful to him for taking the time to spend three days with us on this journey,' he added. Dennis also hailed the dinner as a platform to strengthen the bond and camaraderie among PBB members in Telang Usan and fellow members of the component parties within Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). 'To date, some 2,900 residents of Telang Usan are involved in the PBB, making it the largest political organisation in the area,' he noted. Baram Dennis Ngau redelineation

As CJ retirement looms, Fadhli contrasts Tengku Maimun and Azam

As Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat is set for retirement on July 1, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari pointed out the contrasting treatment received by the top judge as opposed to MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki. He said that despite receiving massive support from the legal fraternity, academics, NGOs, and the public, the government does not seem keen to extend Tengku Maimun's tenure despite the Federal Constitution allowing it. 'Ironically, Azam, who is...
