The Comeback stars Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, an actress who appeared on a hit sitcom in the early 1990s who's trying to make her way back into the spotlight. The first season, which premiered in June 2005, follows her as she's cast in a new comedy, with the stipulation that she also appear in a reality show about the making of the scripted series.
Season two saw Valerie cast in an HBO project about the sitcom writer who made her life hell in season one, earning widespread acclaim professionally even as her personal life was falling apart.
As for season three, 'Valerie Cherish has found her way back to the current television landscape. Neither of us are surprised she did,' Kudrow and King said in a statement.
Added Amy Gravitt, executive vp comedy programming for HBO and Max, 'No matter what the industry throws at her, Valerie Cherish is a survivor. On the 20th anniversary of her debut, Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow have brilliantly scripted her return to HBO, and we can't wait to see that.'
Dan Bucatinsky, Laura Silverman and Damian Young are set to reprise their roles from past seasons. Kudrow, King, John Melfi and Bucatinsky are executive producing the final season.
Along with the announcement, HBO released a video of Kudrow as Valerie teasing the new season. Watch it below.

Billy Joel Complements ‘And So It Goes' Documentary Release With 155-Track ‘Musical Companion'
A veritable treasure trove of unreleased and unheard Billy Joel material has arrived alongside the conclusion of the music legend's And So It Goes documentary. Celebrating the life and over 60-year career of the Grammy Award-winning recording artist, Billy Joel: And So It Goes made its debut on HBO on July 18, with its second and final part premiering a week later on Friday, July 25. More from Billboard Pantera Cancel Tour Dates to Mourn Ozzy Osbourne Ed Sheeran Expands 2026 Australia and New Zealand Tour Phil Collins Is in Hospital for Surgery, Not in Hospice, Rep Confirms Just hours after the conclusion of the film, an extensive 155-track 'musical companion' was uploaded to streaming services, compiling six-and-a-half hours of unheard material and live performances from Joel's storied career. Alongside early tracks from his time as a member of groups such as The Hassles and The Lost Souls, the 115 songs are also accompanied by audio clips of Joel and others providing introductions to the following selections. A number of live cuts from notable performances such as Joel's appearance on The Old Grey Whistle Test and some recorded the day he signed with Columbia Records, are also present, as is the debut rendition of 'Scenes From an Italian Restaurant' – recorded on May 6, 1977 at C.W. Post College in Long Island. 'I always wanted to write a cinematic type of song about the lives of people I knew in high school,' Joel explains of the song. 'People who peaked too early.' Though never released as a single, the near-eight-minute song was later released on The Stranger that same year and would become one of Joel's most revered songs, along with his most-played. Produced by Steve Cohen, Bradshaw Leigh and John Jackson, the new collection is likely to be accompanied further releases of similarly unheard material in the future. 'There's a ton of stuff that's in his personal vault and there's a ton of stuff that's in Sony's vault, with not a ton of overlap,' Jackson told Ultimate Classic Rock. 'We are determined to go through both things in the coming years. The premiere of the new documentary comes just months after the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer canceled all of his upcoming shows due to his diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus, writing in a statement at the time, 'I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.' His team also shared at the time that he would be undergoing 'specific physical therapy' to combat the disorder, which has affected his hearing, vision, balance and performance capabilities. Joel provided an update as to his current health status during an appearance on Bill Maher's Club Random Podcast just last week on July 21. 'I feel good,' he explained. 'They keep referring to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds a lot worse than what I'm feeling.' 'The Gilded Age' Gets Renewed for Season 4 Weeks Before the Season 3 Finale
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. HBO has struck gold with The Gilded Age. The period drama from Downton Abbey's Julian Fellowes is enjoying its strongest season yet, with season 3 racking up 20 percent more viewers than season 2 and social engagement rising nearly 60 percent week over week, according to the network. Now, HBO is striking while the iron is hot and ordering another season from the series. (Isn't that what railroad tycoon George Russell would do?) First debuting in 2022, The Gilded Age follows the lives of key upper-class families in New York high society—and the working members of their households—at the turn of the 19th century. As the new money folk wriggle their way into power and the old money fight to maintain dominance, drama ensues. And viewers can thank stars like Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Audra McDonald, Cynthia Nixon, and more for bringing it to life. There's no info on the season 4 premiere date, production schedule, or new cast members yet, but we're gathering everything we know so far while we wait. Yes, thankfully. HBO announced the news on July 28, weeks before the season 3 finale. In a statement about the renewal, HBO exec Francesca Orsi praised Fellowes and the cast and crew for creating 'a 'can't-miss it' entertainment experience from week to week, and we're delighted to continue exploring these characters' grand ambitions for what we promise will be a thrilling fourth season.' There is no release date yet. But for context, season 1 premiered in January 2022, season 2 premiered in October 2023, and season 3 (following the writers and actors' strikes) premiered in June 2025. New additions to and departures from the season 4 cast have yet to be announced. In the meantime, here's the official season 3 lineup: Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Taissa Farmiga, Harry Richardson, Blake Ritson, Ben Ahlers, Ashlie Atkinson, Dylan Baker, Kate Baldwin, Victoria Clark, John Ellison Conlee, Michael Cumpsty, Kelley Curran, Jordan Donica, Jessica Frances Dukes, Claybourne Elder, Amy Forsyth, Jack Gilpin, LisaGay Hamilton, Ward Horton, Simon Jones, Sullivan Jones, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Ben Lamb, Nathan Lane, Andrea Martin, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Debra Monk, Hattie Morahan, Donna Murphy, Kristine Nielsen, Paul Alexander Nolan, Kelli O'Hara, Patrick Page, Rachel Pickup, Taylor Richardson, Douglas Sills, Bobby Steggert, Erin Wilhelmi, John Douglas Thompson, Leslie Uggams, Merritt Wever, Bill Camp, and Phylicia Rashad.
