Oman: FSA approves allocation of Asyad shares

Zawya05-03-2025
Muscat: The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has announced the allocation of the shares of Asyad Shipping Company (ASCO) based on the categories stated in the prospectus.
The offering was covered 1.4 times at a total value of RO 177 million. The share price is 123 Baisas, and the value of the offered shares is RO 127 million.
Approved allocation results show allocation at 100% for the category of large and small individual investors. Local and foreign institutions were allocated shares by the selling shareholder in consultation with the joint global coordinator as per the terms and conditions stated in the prospectus.
Asyad Shipping Company is a subsidiary of ASYAD Group, one of the companies of the Oman Investment Authority (OIA).
The offering is a manifestation of OIA's policy of divesting certain government assets in line with Oman Vision 2040, that aims to attract national and foreign investments. The move is also part of efforts for diversification and expansion of the investors' base. The offering will allow investors an opportunity to invest in one of the most prominent companies in Oman in the field of marine transportation.
It is worth noting that FSA is keen, when considering the allocation of shares, to consider investors' segments to expand the base of participation in public offerings to enhance the role of the capital market as a source of effective funding in the national economy.

Oman: FSA denies minimum price hike for vehicle insurance

Muscat – The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has responded to recent concerns circulating on social media regarding alleged increases in the minimum prices of vehicle insurance by some insurance companies. In an official statement, the FSA clarified that no approval has been granted to raise the minimum pricing levels for vehicle insurance. The authority emphasized its ongoing role in monitoring insurance pricing to maintain price stability within safe and appropriate limits. The FSA reaffirmed its adherence to the principle of a free market, noting that insurance pricing is determined by several factors, including supply and demand dynamics, the performance of insurance portfolios, and profitability levels. It stated that any change in insurance tariffs must be communicated to the Authority with valid justifications before implementation. The Authority urged policyholders and the public to rely on its official social media channels for accurate and updated information on the insurance market. As the regulatory and supervisory body for Oman's financial non-banking sector, the FSA continues to monitor market practices to ensure fairness and transparency. © Apex Press and Publishing Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. Oman: New strategic plan to shape Dakhliyah's growth

Nizwa – Dakhliyah has launched its strategic development plan for 2026-2030 as part of ongoing efforts to promote decentralisation and enhance institutional planning. The plan aligns with Oman Vision 2040, the National Urban Development Strategy and the sultanate's five-year development framework. A cooperation agreement was signed on Wednesday between the Governorate of Dakhliyah and Oman Think Urban, a planning and development centre, to implement the strategy under the corporate name 'Afaq'. Intended to enhance public engagement and decentralised governance, it will be developed based on analytical and field studies. Sheikh Hilal bin Saeed al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, said the agreement represents a step towards realistic and measurable planning approaches, aimed at delivering results that benefit all wilayats in the governorate. He stressed the importance of involving both local communities and government entities in every phase of the plan. It seeks to tap into the governorate's resources and strengths, enabling local authorities, citizens and private businesses to contribute to decision-making and development. Khaled bin Adim al Salmi, Director of Planning and Investment Department in the governorate, described the plan as a practical reflection of national policies promoting decentralised and balanced development. He added that community and private sector participation would be central to prioritising and allocating resources effectively. Prof Mahmoud bin Humaid al Wahaibi, CEO of Oman Think Urban, said the plan would adopt a participatory model supported by scientific methodologies and measurable indicators. The approach aims to produce sustainable outcomes and address future development challenges. The 'Afaq' project will also involve local capacity building and training programmes to boost institutional and community participation. A workshop was held during the launch with participation of governorate staff and representatives of public agencies. The session was a platform to discuss the overall direction of the plan and ensure it reflects the governorate's development needs. According to the Governor's Office, the plan will support key sectors including tourism, industry, education, innovation and infrastructure development.

Yango Group introduces the bilingual AI assistant Yasmina in Oman, supporting national digital transformation goals

Yango Group, a global tech company, has introduced Yasmina – the bilingual human-like AI assistant, in Oman. Yasmina, fluent in Arabic and English, is built into the smart speakers — Midi, Mini, and Lite, and is designed to meet the needs of users in the region through natural, intelligent voice interactions. Behind the assistant's ability to understand context and engage in natural conversations is an upgraded large language model, one of the core components of YangoAI — a suite of advanced AI technologies tailored to the GCC. Yasmina goes beyond standard functions such as music streaming and smart home control. It offers localized features, including prayer times for Muscat, traditional recipe suggestions like Omani Shuwa, and assists with planning family trips to popular destinations such as Wadi Shab. Additionally, the assistant supports faith-based activities by playing Surahs, setting Adhans, and providing accurate dates according to the Hijri calendar, helping users maintain a strong connection to their cultural and religious practices. The AI assistant encourages curiosity across all age groups by simplifying complex topics, supporting language development, and offering interactive storytelling, making it equally useful at home, in classrooms, and on the go. It has the ability to translate between Arabic and English, making it particularly useful for bilingual users and language learners, educators, and content creators. 'AI technology is transforming how people live, learn, and connect, and we believe it should be accessible to everyone, everywhere. The Sultanate of Oman has shown strong momentum in embracing AI as a key part of its national digital strategy. We are proud that our ecosystem is expanding with increasingly advanced services designed to enhance the lives of Omani citizens. Through Yasmina and our broader portfolio, we remain committed to delivering innovative solutions that support Oman's vision for technological sovereignty,' said Islam Abdul Karim, Regional Head, Yango Group Middle East. 'ITHCA Group, being the technology investment arm of the OIA, actively supports initiatives within its portfolio companies that aim to adapt advanced technologies to the unique needs of users. Therefore, we highly value Yango Group's contributions to enhancing Oman's digital ecosystem. The Yasmina smart speakers will help families, students, and individuals discover the capabilities of AI in ways that feel familiar and practical. We believe that such innovations are well aligned with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040,' ITHCA Group stated. The expansion reflects Yango Group's ongoing commitment to digital innovation across the region. With the launch of Yasmina in Oman, Yango Group continues its mission of bridging the gap between innovative technologies and local communities. The Yasmina smart speakers are now available for purchase through various retail and online outlets across Oman.
