Ravindra Chavan appointed state BJP president: At party meeting, Fadnavis, Rijiju take aim at Oppn
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, 'Ravindra Chavan's unwavering commitment and loyalty to the organisation earned him the highest post. He is a karyakarta who thinks and works for the organisation 24×7,' adding 'for the BJP the welfare of Maharashtra is supreme'.
On the controversy over the three-language policy, he said, 'We are not one to work under anybody' pressure. We have constituted a committee that will take an appropriate decision. Students' interest will be kept in sight and mind.'
'We have always accorded Marathi highest priority. And made Marathi language mandatory,' Fadnavis reiterated. 'We are not against Hindi language. We take pride in all Indian languages. Unfortunately, our opponents distorted facts for politics,' he said.
'Our rivals always raise the false bogey of how Marathi and Mumbai are undermined by the BJP before every elections. They will now start shouting how the government is out to divide Mumbai from Maharashtra. But by now, people have seen the Opposition's gimmicks,' he added.
Attacking opposition parties, Fadnavis said, 'During their tenure, sons of the soil were forced to relocate outside Mumbai. Whereas, after the BJP-led government came to power, we provided them homes within Mumbai. We have undertaken projects to transform the face of Mumbai and provide much needed relief to Mumbaikars.'
Addressing the gathering, Rijiju said, 'In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the opposition misled people on the threat to the Constitution. But in the Assembly polls, the Maharashtra BJP came back with absolute mandate. The Congress, which talks of the Constitution, is the one which ensured Dr B R Ambedkar defeat in the Lok Sabha polls from Maharashtra.'
Chavan expressed his gratitude to the party for the responsibility bestowed on him. 'We will devote our entire energy for organisational expansion keeping the 2029 Assembly polls in sight.
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said, 'Fadnavis and Chavan should work together to make Maharashtra leader in every sector.'

'The common people of Delhi use two-wheelers to go to work. What will the owners of 40 lakh two-wheelers do? How will they go to work?' the former chief minister said. Calling the fuel ban 'archaic and baseless', Atishi said the BJP was causing trouble to the residents of the capital, 'There are many senior citizens in the city who use secondhand vehicles just to get groceries from the market and come back. What will they do now?' Atishi questioned the rationale behind the fuel ban. 'There is no proven relation between the age of the vehicle and the levels of pollution caused. If vehicles are maintained properly, they won't cause pollution,' she said. Alleging a nexus between the BJP and big vehicle manufacturers, Atishi said, 'Today I challenge the BJP to inform the people about the amount of donation they received from these companies.' On the first day of the fuel ban, 350 teams, including from Delhi Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and the transport department, were stationed 24×7 across the 498 petrol pumps in the capital on Tuesday. While 80 vehicles were seized, 98 people whose vehicles could not be impounded were issued notices on Tuesday, an officer from the Delhi transport department stated. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed to scan number plates of vehicles and instantly cross-check their details against data registered in the Union government's VAHAN portal. If the vehicle is flagged as an ELV or lacks a valid pollution under control certificate, an audio alert is sent to the petrol pump operator.

Several Pakistani Accounts Blocked During Op Sindoor Reinstated After Govt Review: Sources
Last Updated: Restrictions were imposed earlier this year during India's Operation Sindoor counter-terror campaign. Some Pakistani news websites and social media accounts of Pakistani celebrities which were banned during India's counter-terror operation Operation Sindoor have resurfaced on social media. It is unclear if those restrictions have been lifted or not as there is no official announcement lifting the ban by the government. However, government sources speaking to News18 said that 'following a periodic review, some social media accounts have been reinstated" but majority of the handles remain blocked. The government sources pointed out that some '14,000 accounts on some social still remain banned". They further added: 'Upon the review, it has been observed that some of these platforms which have been reinstated have not spoken anti India language for a while, which was the main reason for blocking them". The sources said: 'Accounts cannot be permanently banned and are subject to regular reviews as part of the standard process". The ban, part of India's Operation Sindoor counter-terror effort, targeted major Pakistani media outlets including Dawn News, Geo News, ARY News, Bol News, Samaa TV, GNN, Suno News HD and The Pakistan Reference, among others. Together, these channels accounted for an estimated 63 million subscribers. The crackdown also extended to sports and entertainment channels such as Samaa Sports, Uzair Cricket and Hum TV, as well as individual journalists and content creators. Pakistan public and sports-related personalities whose accounts faced ban included Umar Cheema, Asma Shirazi, Muneeb Farooq, Irshad Bhatti, Razi Naama, Wasay Habib, Arzoo Kazmi, Syed Muzammil Shah and former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar. Several of them also faced restrictions on platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), as the ban widened in early May 2025. The restrictions were imposed amid cross-border information warfare and attempts by these Pakistani social media cells to manipulate Indian public sentiment. A notable example of Pakistani cricketers and celebs spreading misinformation was that of Shahid Afridi, who criticised the people of India and the Indian Army. In early May 2025, Shahid Afridi's YouTube channel was one of the Pakistani platforms blocked in India. Parties rush to add poll agents in Bihar as voter list review gathers pace
The Election Commission of India's (ECI's) special intensive review of Bihar's electoral rolls ahead of Assembly elections later this year has prompted political parties in the state, including those in the opposition, to increase the number of their booth-level agents (BLAs) to coordinate with the poll machinery during the preparation and revision of the voters' list, PTI reported on Wednesday. BLAs are empowered to raise claims and objections about the inclusion or deletion of voters and help prevent arbitrary decisions by election officials. According to the latest data, the number of BLAs from recognised national parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress (INC), Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has grown significantly, with some parties adding substantial numbers. The CPI(M), for instance, has increased its BLAs from 76 to 578, while the Congress has nearly doubled its count from 8,586 to 16,500. According to a report published in The Hindu, the exercise is causing considerable confusion in parts of the state. The report noted that in Saran district's Chhapra town, people are unaware of the review and many villagers are not literate enough to understand and fill out the enumeration form. Electoral rolls have been prepared afresh through intensive revisions — either across the country or in parts — nine times in the 52-year period from 1952 to 2004, averaging nearly once every six years. However, no intensive revision has been carried out in the past 22 years. ECI expands ground workforce The ECI has already appointed nearly 78,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and is in the process of appointing about 21,000 more for new polling stations. It recently held training sessions for BLAs from eight political parties in Bihar to familiarise them with their roles and responsibilities. Bihar is the first of five states to undergo the review; Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are scheduled for similar exercises ahead of their Assembly elections in the first half of 2026. The ECI has stated that the aim of the review is to separate genuine voters from illegal foreign migrants, mainly from Bangladesh and Myanmar.
