‘That's certain' – Barcelona's links with Real Madrid star clarified

Yahoo22-07-2025
La Liga champions Barcelona have not made contact with arch rivals Real Madrid over a potential deal for attacker Rodrygo.
That's according to market expert Fabrizio Romano, who has on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.

The name of frontman Rodrygo of course suddenly emerged as a prominent one in the headlines in Catalunya's capital this past weekend.
As much came after shock reports stemming from the player's home country of Brazil suggested that Barcelona had earmarked Rodrygo as a summer transfer target.
UOL Esporte even went as far as to claim that the Blaugrana had initiated contacts with the 24-year-old's entourage.
Speaking during an appearance on DAZN this week, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Rodrygo's Camp Nou links was put to the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer insider, however, went on to assure:

'I don't know where these Rodrygo rumours came from.
'But from everything I've been told, there's nothing at all. Barcelona know it's impossible to negotiate with either Rodrygo or Real Madrid. It won't happen, that is certain.'

Jules Kounde says he has agreed Barcelona contract renewal until 2030

Jules Kounde has said he has agreed to renew his Barcelona contract through to 2030. The deal would represent a three-year contract extension for the France international, whose current terms at Barca expire in 2027. 'It is all ready for me to renew until 2030 when we return to Barcelona, it has been really quick,' Kounde told reporters on Wednesday, via Cope. 'It is a matter of days now, and I'm very happy.' Advertisement The 26-year-old played at centre-back for previous clubs Bordeaux and Sevilla but has more frequently been deployed at right-back for Barcelona, for whom he has been a regular during his three seasons in Catalonia. Kounde has won five trophies, including two La Liga titles, since joining from Sevilla in 2022. The defender has played 52 times for France, with whom he won the Nations League in 2021 and reached the World Cup final the following year. Kounde's new contract is well-deserved, especially after establishing himself as one of the most reliable right-backs in the world. The new deal also follows a clear instruction sporting director Deco wants to implement across the club: avoid players moving into the final years of their current deals, when the club can lose negotiating power. The new contract arrives at a perfect age for the France international, who turns 27 in November. Given how coveted full-backs are, this is an important move from Barca to tie down one of their most consistent performers. This year, he set a mark of 86 consecutive games being a starter with the club, from November 2023 to April 2025. Kounde played 53 games last season, scoring four goals and delivering eight assists across all competitions, before a hamstring injury sidelined him for a month in May. Hansi Flick did not hesitate to praise Kounde's physical condition: 'I had never had a player like him before,' the manager said in September last season. 'You can tell him to have a rest, but after the games he still wants to train. He says he needs that. It's incredible. A top professional.' Barcelona are securing him for arguably the best years of his career.

🚨 BREAKING: Nélson Semedo confirms Wolves exit via Instagram

Nélson Semedo has officially departed Wolverhampton Wanderers following the expiration of his contract on 30 June 2025. The Portuguese right-back is now a free agent. Semedo confirmed his exit via a post on Instagram, bringing an end to his five-year stay at Molineux. The 31-year-old joined Wolves from Barcelona in September 2020 and went on to make over 180 appearances for the club across all competitions. As reported by Express & Star journalist Liam Keen, Wolves had been preparing for Semedo's departure for some time and are actively working on securing a replacement. The club has been reshaping its squad this summer and viewed the right-back position as a key area for reinforcement. Semedo played an important role during his time at the club, providing energy and experience down the right flank. Though his final season saw increased rotation and competition for places, he remained a respected figure in the dressing room. With his departure now official, Semedo will assess options for the next chapter of his career. Meanwhile, Wolves continue their preparations for the upcoming Premier League campaign with recruitment efforts ongoing. No names have yet been linked publicly with the right-back role, but the club is expected to move swiftly in the transfer market. 📸 Naomi Baker - 2025 Getty Images
