On Friday, the National Defence Academy (NDA) witnessed a momentous occasion as the first-ever batch of 17 women cadets was among the 336 cadets who graduated from the academy, marking the culmination of the 148th Course - Spring Term 2025, as per a release from the Ministry of Defence.
According to the release, a total of 1,341 Cadets, including 336 from the passing out course, participated in the Passing Out Parade (POP) at the iconic Khetarpal Parade Ground in Maharashtra's Khadakwasla. Gracing the occasion as the Reviewing Officer was the Governor of Mizoram, General (Dr) VK Singh (Retd).
The parade marked the successful completion of rigorous military and academic training by the cadets, culminating in a splendid display of precision, discipline and military bearing. It was impeccably conducted by Adjutant Lt Col Praveen Kumar Tiwari, astride his charger 'Reliant Robin'. Academy Cadet Captain Udayveer Singh Negi of 'G' Squadron commanded the parade with exceptional composure and military precision.
In recognition of the exemplary performance, the Reviewing Officer presented the President's Gold Medal to Battalion Cadet Adjutant Prince Raj, the President's Silver Medal to Academy Cadet Captain Udayveer Singh Negi, and the President's Bronze Medal to Battalion Cadet Captain Tejas Bhatt. The prestigious Chiefs of Staff Banner was awarded to the Golf Squadron for overall excellence.
The event concluded with a grand flypast featuring flag-trooping Chetak helicopters, Super Dimona motorised gliders, and the majestic Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft. This symbolised the culmination of training and the cadets' readiness to embark on the next phase of their military journey.
The event was attended by a diverse group that included proud families, distinguished dignitaries, school children, civilians, and serving and retired Armed Forces personnel.
The Spring Term 2025 POP stands as a proud testament to the Academy's enduring commitment to grooming future military leaders, now enriched with the inclusion of women cadets destined to serve the nation with honour and valour. The release added that the event held historical significance as it marked the passing out of the first-ever batch of 17 Female Cadets from the Academy -- a transformative milestone in NDA's legacy of nation-building. Chennai Airport conducts mock drill to test emergency response
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 28 (ANI): The Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted a mock drill at Chennai International Airport on Saturday to assess emergency preparedness for a potential plane crash. The exercise followed the recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. 'This mock exercise drill is a standard practice that airports undertake as part of their Airport Emergency Plan. Usually, we do it at the airport. This is the first time we are doing it outside, as we wanted to assess the preparedness of state authorities following what happened in Ahmedabad,' Airport Director of Airports Authority of India, Chennai International Airport, CV Deepak, told ANI. 'We will now hear from independent observers and fill the gaps accordingly... Approximately 300 people participated. Around 55 people participated as passengers onboard the aircraft,' he added. On June 12, a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. All 241 people on board, except one, were killed in the crash. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) Lab in New Delhi is currently working intensively to examine data retrieved from the black boxes of the flight. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Crash Protection Module (CPM) from the front black box was safely retrieved, and on June 25, 2025, the memory module was successfully accessed and its data downloaded at the AAIB Lab. Sources familiar with the process told ANI that an identical black box, referred to as a 'golden chassis,' was used to confirm whether data could be accurately recovered from the black boxes. One black box was recovered from the rooftop of a building at the crash site on June 13, and the other from the debris on June 16. The investigation is being led by AAIB officials and includes technical members from the Indian Air Force, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) from the United States, which is the official investigative agency of the country of the aircraft's design and manufacture. The Director General of AAIB is heading the probe. An aviation medicine expert and an Air Traffic Control officer have also been included in the investigation team. Sources confirmed that the NTSB team is currently stationed in Delhi and working closely with Indian authorities at the AAIB Lab. Officials from Boeing and GE are also present in the national capital to assist with the technical process. (ANI)

Himachal: Kangra airport conducts full-scale emergency mock drill to test disaster preparedness
Kangra (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 28 (ANI): A full-scale emergency mock exercise was successfully conducted at Kangra Airport on Saturday. The objective of the exercise was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Aerodrome Emergency Plan (AEP) and to enhance coordination among various responding agencies, according to airport officials. According to the simulated scenario, a Delhi to Gaggal flight (VTABC, Q400 type) reported a starboard engine failure at 1515 hours and requested priority landing. The aircraft was carrying 71 persons onboard. During its approach to Runway 33, the aircraft declared a 'May Day' and crashed near the Manjhi River. Immediately after the report, ATC declared a full emergency and alerted all concerned agencies. Fire tenders, ambulances, medical teams, and the State Disaster Management team rushed to the crash site. Injured passengers were provided first aid and shifted to hospitals, while a few casualties were sent for DNA profiling for identification. The exercise was closely monitored by Airport Director Dhirendra Singh, SDM Ishant Jaswal, DySP Ankit Sharma, officers from the State Fire Department, local hospitals, and the disaster response team. Coordination and response from all departments were found to be timely and effective. The exercise aimed to enhance preparedness and ensure an efficient real-time response during actual emergencies. Uttarakhand: CM Dhami plants sapling along with his mother and son under 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 28 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami planted a sapling along with his mother Bishna Devi on Saturday under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. Chief Minister's son Diwakar also planted a sapling on the occasion. This initiative aims to inspire every person to plant a tree in honour of their mother so that environmental protection can be made a mass movement through emotional attachment. During this, CM Dhami said, 'Mother is the first guru of life, and the environment gives us life. It is our duty to serve both mother and nature. This campaign also gives the message of responsibility towards the environment in society.' Furthermore, the CM appealed to the people of the state to plant a tree in memory of their mothers and take care of it themselves. Earlier, CM Dhami planted a Sita Ashoka sapling at the Chief Minister's residence on the occasion of World Environment Day as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. On this occasion, the Chief Minister called upon the state's people to participate in this holy work and serve nature while respecting their mother. This campaign is dedicated to maternal respect and environmental protection, encouraging every person to plant a tree in honour of their mother. Dhami also greeted people on World Environment Day and urged them to participate in the 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' initiative by planting at least one tree and protecting the environment. ' 'Conservation of nature and environment is both our cultural heritage and responsibility. Under the leadership and guidance of the respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign has been started to promote environmental conservation,' Dhami said in a post on X. 'Let us all promote this campaign and plant a tree in the name of Mother and ensure our participation in environmental protection,' his post added.
