'Denise Welch made me buy this £49 M&S jacket that's perfect for summer layering'
If you'd asked me last month to name my daytime fashion inspirations, I'd likely have reeled off the usual suspects - Frankie Bridge, Cat Deeley or Rochelle Humes. Denise Welch probably wouldn't have been the first name that comes to mind, but appearing on a June episode of Loose Women, the actress was seen sporting a piece that I instantly had to track down.
The 67-year-old donned the Pure Cotton Striped Tie Front Shacket from M&S's Per Una collection, which happens to be under £50. When I checked online for stock, it had completely sold out, but luckily I managed to get my hands on it in store. Lucky for shoppers, it's since been restocked and is available in most sizes.
Now, I really dislike the word shacket. It gives me the same visceral reaction others get to words like 'moist'. However, while the word once triggered fashion fatigue, it really is the best way to describe this blouse-come-layering-piece.
Priced at £49.50, the lightweight jacket is made from 100% cotton in an oversized, boxy fit. It's lightweight enough to be worn alone as a blouse, but heavy enough to wear as a jacket without it being flimsy.
It boasts long sleeves and a collared V-neckline, complete with three tie front closures for an on-trend look. This design detail is one that won't be going out of style anytime soon, either, which means shoppers can wear it year-round.
However, not everyone has been a fan of the trend. On the M&S jacket, one shopper commented: 'Who needs such fussy ties to close this top? This season seems full of them.'
That said, others have left five star reviews, complimenting the shacket's 'good quality' and 'comfortable' feel. One wrote: 'The item was made of good quality fabric with an unusual closure but it was large. I usually take 18/20 and even the 16 was loose.'
Another said: 'Great quality and design, comfortable to wear was a little unsure as shacket as have purchased one before and not altogether sold on these as really was not one thing or another but I would say this is a heavy denim shirt and a good spring top very intend with the tie front.'
If the M&S tie-front shacket has whet your appetite for a new denim staple, but isn't quite for you, Boden's Denim Frill Collar Jacket costs £119 and is channeling Parisian vibes. The feminine ruffles are a dreamy touch that set it apart from other denim pieces on the high street.
Alternatively, this ASOS DESIGN denim rugby top is on sale from £36 to £23.50. It has that same revere collar silhouette, but is ideal for wearing solo, accessorised with a satin neck tie.
As for the M&S jacket, I paired it with the matching pinstripe jeans, however, I was a little bit let down by them. The quality and cut were spot on, but they appear to be a touch lighter than the top, and while most people wouldn't notice, it does bug me a little bit. It doesn't matter when wearing them as separates, but when opting for the full co-ord look, it would have been better if they were exactly the same shade.
Another slight downside about the top is that the ties do occasionally need tightening throughout the day, but that's a minor inconvenience and wouldn't stop me from wearing it - especially considering how many compliments it's earned me.
So while Denise Welch being a style icon may not have been on my 2025 bingo card, I must give credit where it's due because I haven't been able to stop wearing this jacket since I bought it. It's currently available in sizes 8-22 online, though some additional sizes could be found in store. It is roomy, so if you enjoy an oversized fit, I'd go for your usual size, but for a snugger silhouette, many will be able to afford sizing down.

The sinister scammer - also known as Larva-208 - allegedly launched his plot on July 22 when he uploaded the HijackLoader malware ( onto the game. According to Bleeping Computer, this dodgy software was uploaded to the popular game Chemia, originally developed by Aether Forge Studios. The software establishes 'persistence' - meaning it gives a hacker unlimited access - on your device. Then, it downloads the Vidar infostealer ( while receiving a command-and-control address from a Telegram channel. A second piece of malware allegedly added to Chemia harvests your data from web browsers - including your account details, auto-fill information, cookies and cryptocurrency data. A report shared with BleepingComputer revealed that the scheme relies on players trusting online platforms, instead of using 'traditional deception techniques'. It is unknown how EncryptHub allegedly managed to upload the files onto the game and Chemia's developer has not commented on the issue. Eventually, the retailer was able to return to normal after being unable to make deliveries for some time. After the attack, the company offered users of its Sparks loyalty scheme the chance to choose between two of M&S' best selling products. These included: Percy Pigs or a Swiss Truffle Assortment Box Bouquet of Flowers or bottle of Prosecco A punnet of Grapes or a packet of Outrageously Chocolatey Round Biscuits. Coleen Nolan says her son 'f***ed up his marriage' during 'horrendous' secret drug battle
Coleen Nolan has revealed that her son, Shane, suffered a secret battle with drugs which saw him 'hit rock bottom' and ruin his marriage to his beauty queen ex-wife, Maddie Wahdan. Coleen Nolan has revealed that her son, Shane, 'f***ed up' his marriage to Miss Great Britain star Maddie Wahdan amid a secret battle with drug addiction. The 36-year-old singer, who Coleen shares with ex-husband Shane Richie, s plit from the beauty queen in December 2023 amid reports he had been unfaithful - just a year after they had tied the knot. Now, Shane has opened up about his battle with drug addiction at the time, which saw him be admitted to rehab as his family feared for his life. Speaking about the ordeal for the first in a new video for her YouTube channel, Loose Women star Coleen, 60, said told her son, " It might be a great high for however long but you were broke, you got into a lot of debt, as everyone does with addiction. Relationships, you f***ed your marriage basically." At the time of Shane's split from Maddie, it was reported that Coleen was been upset' and 'disappointed' over the split, with sources claiming it was like 'history repeating itself' after his father cheated on Coleen back in the 90s. Now, he is in a new relationship with girlfriend Kimberly Sallis, and revealed earlier this month they are expecting their first child together. Crediting Kimberly for helping him through the drug addiction, Shane said in the video, "I think I've had to grow up. I've got a girlfriend who has helped me through it massively, we're starting a family now." Admitting that his hectic work schedule led to the addiction starting, the singer explained, "The constant moving, the travelling all of the time, having to be on stage until 11 o'clock at night, so the only way to pick yourself up is to [do drugs]. 'I'd have a three day bender but I wasn't [doing drugs] Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. It probably would have got to that. I was splitting up, I was going through a tough time work wise, I didn't know what I wanted to do," he continued. For Coleen, the situation had her fearing her son may not make it, as she recalled there was a 'breaking point' before he was admitted to a rehab centre. 'I remember when the time came that you passed out and split your head open early in the morning. He split his head open and got eight staples, or whatever it is, in his head. That was my breaking point, if this doesn't wake him up, he will... I kept saying, 'He's going to die'," she told Shane in the video. Blaming herself, Coleen continued, "'From a mother's point of view, I just felt I'd done something wrong. I really blamed me for all of it. People kept saying, 'You have to talk to him, you have to do this' and I couldn't. I thought, 'I'm really failing on all levels though'. "So, when you split your head open, I thought the next call could be, 'He's overdosed'. I just remember thinking, 'I've just failed him and I can't take this pain away from him', If I could've taken it for myself I would've." Now, with Shane sober and set to welcome a new baby, Coleen says the family can finally relax: 'It's only until recently we've all just relaxed. The difference for me now, is you're just nicer to be around. I didn't dread you coming around, but I kind of did. I don't know, it was horrible."
