'Denise Welch made me buy this £49 M&S jacket that's perfect for summer layering'

The Loose Women panellist is best known for her acting and presenting roles, but one of her recent outfits cemented her name on the list of daytime TV fashion icons If you'd asked me last month to name my daytime fashion inspirations, I'd likely have reeled off the usual suspects - Frankie Bridge, Cat Deeley or Rochelle Humes. Denise Welch probably wouldn't have been the first name that comes to mind, but appearing on a June episode of Loose Women, the actress was seen sporting a piece that I instantly had to track down. The 67-year-old donned the Pure Cotton Striped Tie Front Shacket from M&S's Per Una collection, which happens to be under £50. When I checked online for stock, it had completely sold out, but luckily I managed to get my hands on it in store. Lucky for shoppers, it's since been restocked and is available in most sizes. Now, I really dislike the word shacket. It gives me the same visceral reaction others get to words like 'moist'. However, while the word once triggered fashion fatigue, it really is the best way to describe this blouse-come-layering-piece. Priced at £49.50, the lightweight jacket is made from 100% cotton in an oversized, boxy fit. It's lightweight enough to be worn alone as a blouse, but heavy enough to wear as a jacket without it being flimsy. It boasts long sleeves and a collared V-neckline, complete with three tie front closures for an on-trend look. This design detail is one that won't be going out of style anytime soon, either, which means shoppers can wear it year-round. However, not everyone has been a fan of the trend. On the M&S jacket, one shopper commented: 'Who needs such fussy ties to close this top? This season seems full of them.' That said, others have left five star reviews, complimenting the shacket's 'good quality' and 'comfortable' feel. One wrote: 'The item was made of good quality fabric with an unusual closure but it was large. I usually take 18/20 and even the 16 was loose.' Another said: 'Great quality and design, comfortable to wear was a little unsure as shacket as have purchased one before and not altogether sold on these as really was not one thing or another but I would say this is a heavy denim shirt and a good spring top very intend with the tie front.' If the M&S tie-front shacket has whet your appetite for a new denim staple, but isn't quite for you, Boden's Denim Frill Collar Jacket costs £119 and is channeling Parisian vibes. The feminine ruffles are a dreamy touch that set it apart from other denim pieces on the high street. Alternatively, this ASOS DESIGN denim rugby top is on sale from £36 to £23.50. It has that same revere collar silhouette, but is ideal for wearing solo, accessorised with a satin neck tie. As for the M&S jacket, I paired it with the matching pinstripe jeans, however, I was a little bit let down by them. The quality and cut were spot on, but they appear to be a touch lighter than the top, and while most people wouldn't notice, it does bug me a little bit. It doesn't matter when wearing them as separates, but when opting for the full co-ord look, it would have been better if they were exactly the same shade. Another slight downside about the top is that the ties do occasionally need tightening throughout the day, but that's a minor inconvenience and wouldn't stop me from wearing it - especially considering how many compliments it's earned me. So while Denise Welch being a style icon may not have been on my 2025 bingo card, I must give credit where it's due because I haven't been able to stop wearing this jacket since I bought it. It's currently available in sizes 8-22 online, though some additional sizes could be found in store. It is roomy, so if you enjoy an oversized fit, I'd go for your usual size, but for a snugger silhouette, many will be able to afford sizing down.

Rita Ora's £50 Primark handbag 'looks like' £200 designer label

Shoppers looking for high-end style for less are likely to love Primark's 'perfect' new bag Primark's Rita Ora collection includes a suede handbag that resembles a luxury alternative. Famous for its affordable fashion and accessories, the high street retailer is stocking a new style for summer. The Rita Ora Fringe Crossbody Bag arguably looks like a high-end style by BRAVE Leather, known for its artisan-crafted leather goods. However, it is available for £50, while the Avah Suede bag offered by the Canadian-based brand retails for C$375 (approximately £200). Both styles look similar as they share a slouched tote bag shape, short strap, and fringed detailing. ‌ Despite these similarities, they don't look like the same shade of brown. There are also differences in fabric and construction, and the fringe design on the Primark bag is much longer. ‌ Primark bag's outer is 100% leather suede, while lining is 100% polyester. The product description states: "Bring a little drama to your everyday looks with this chocolate fringe crossbody from the Rita Ora collection. "Made from leather with a soft, slouchy shape, it's the perfect addition to your day-to-day 'fits. The adjustable strap means you can sling it over your shoulder or wear it crossbody and a secure zip fastening keeps your essentials tucked safely inside, while the generous fringing brings all the movement. Whether you're heading to a festival or just want to level up your casual, this bag's got you." Elsewhere, the product description says the BRAVE Leather bag is 100% vegetable tanned Italian leather with an unlined suede interior. The brand says the bag is ethically made in Canada. The product description states: "The Avah tote bag is made from super-soft Italian suede featuring side seamed fringe detail. A must have for the bohemian at heart, or the modern fashionista. The roomy inside features a double leather pocket to accommodate all your daily needs." Additionally, BRAVE's website states that they custom-make each piece to order in their Toronto workshop. There's also a complimentary embossing service. ‌ Primark shoppers looking for a similar style for less could enjoy a significant saving. However, customers looking for a fringed handbag may prefer to shop elsewhere, reports the Mirror. For instance, Marks & Spencer offers the Per Una's Suede Fringed Shoulder Bag for £89. The product description reads: "This stylish suede bag from our Per Una range is made for boho-inspired looks. It has a compact design with a single shoulder strap and a secure magnetic flap fastening. Fringing down each side swishes as you move, while an interior zipped pocket keeps your valuables organised." ‌ For those with their heart set on the Primark bag, the style is available for click and collect. Primark's 'perfect' £50 leather bag looks 'so similar' to £275 brand

The store's new accessory looks similar to a luxury version for a fraction of the cost Primark is stocking a new bag that bears a striking resemblance to a luxury alternative. Popular for its affordable fashion and accessories, the retailer has introduced a new style likely to impress shoppers. The Rita Ora Fringe Crossbody Bag looks similar to a high-end style by BRAVE Leather, known for its artisan-crafted leather goods. However, there's a significant price difference. Shoppers can snag the Primark version for £50, while the Avah Suede bag offered by the Canadian-based brand retails for $375 (approximately £275). ‌ Both brown bags arguably look similar, thanks to the slouched tote bag shape, short strap, and fringed detailing. Shoppers could mix and match either bag with the same outfit, thanks to the style similarities. ‌ However, there are some noticeable differences, as they're not the same chocolate shade, and the fringe design on the Primark bag is much longer. It's also important to note that there are differences in fabric and construction. While the Primark bag's outer is 100% leather suede, it's not the only material. For instance, the lining is 100% polyester. The product description states: "Bring a little drama to your everyday looks with this chocolate fringe crossbody from the Rita Ora collection. "Made from leather with a soft, slouchy shape, it's the perfect addition to your day-to-day 'fits. Alternatively, shoppers looking for a fringed handbag may prefer to shop elsewhere. ‌ For instance, customers searching for a smaller bag might prefer Per Una's Suede Fringed Shoulder Bag for £89 from Marks & Spencer. The product description states: "This stylish suede bag from our Per Una range is made for boho-inspired looks. "It has a compact design with a single shoulder strap and a secure magnetic flap fastening. Fringing down each side swishes as you move, while an interior zipped pocket keeps your valuables organised." It's much more compact than the other two styles; however, there are notable design differences. M&S is taking online orders again - these are the 15 hero fashion pieces to snap up before they sell out

Six weeks after Marks & Spencer was forced to pause online orders following a cyber attack over the Easter weekend, it has reopened its website to shoppers – and we couldn't be more excited to finally move those items we've been saving on our wish list to our basket and check out. Then there's a matching set from Per Una that caught our eye; the embroidered collared relaxed shirt (£59) and embroidered wide leg trousers (£59). Nine pieces for your wardrobe inspired by crafts like crochet and embroidery

I like to get the most out of my wardrobe but when it comes to summer, I always feel a bit cheated. Is it summer outside or is it just spring in a fancy glass with two olives and a twist? Investing in feather-light pieces feels cavalier unless a sun-soaked holiday is on the cards, so I defer instead to interchangeable staples that lend themselves to layering. Lately, things have changed. The seasonal craft trend has had a makeover. Now rendered with clean lines and tailoring, details like embroidery, cutwork, crochet and appliqué exhibit a contemporary edge. Better still, you can wear it well past that two-week break. Here's how. Ecru jeans are the harbinger of good weather. Once spotted in the wild, you can safely emerge from hibernation. London-based brand Never Fully Dressed cleverly taps into this phenomenon with their cutwork scallop pair. Team with a tank top and sandals or add a suede jacket for extra wear time. Likewise, when the sun is in its rightful place, the ease of a matching set is unrivalled. Try Essentiel Antwerp's lace embroidery offering in pink and baby blue. The shirt alone doubles as a bikini cover-up with shorts or over a thin polo neck with wide-leg trousers. If your vibe is neutral and low-key, stay true to your aesthetic with a fresh spin on broderie anglaise. H&M's office-friendly midi dress (love that bolo-style belt) is worth a raise. As for al fresco fun? Accessories like an embroidered heel, a crochet bag or a raffia necklace (pay Zara a visit) ensure visual interest without the long-term commitment. Now that's crafty.
