Dubai is set to strengthen its position as a global education hub by welcoming three internationally renowned universities for the 2025-26 academic year. The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad) from India, the American University of Beirut (AUB) from Lebanon, and Fakeeh College for Medical Sciences from Saudi Arabia will all establish campuses in the emirate, marking a significant expansion of Dubai's higher education landscape.
New Campuses to Elevate Dubai's Global Education Status
The Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) confirmed the upcoming arrival of these three institutions. IIM Ahmedabad is highly respected worldwide, with its Business and Management programme currently ranked 27th globally in the QS World University Rankings by subject. Meanwhile, the American University of Beirut holds a respectable 237th position in the overall global QS rankings. The entry of Fakeeh College for Medical Sciences adds to Dubai's growing diversity in specialized education fields.
Expanding Dubai's Vision for Higher Education
Dr Wafi Dawood, CEO of the Strategic Development Sector at KHDA, highlighted the significance of this development in an interview with a local news outlet KT, saying, 'Dubai's initiative to attract the best global universities, endorsed by The Executive Council, reflects the emirate's international stature. Dubai's visionary leaders have ensured all the resources necessary to position the emirate as a global leader and a top destination for students and prestigious international higher education institutions.

He further explained the alignment with Dubai's broader goals: 'This initiative aligns with the social and economic goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, and the Education 33 Strategy, which represents a transformative vision for Dubai's education system. Our aim is to enhance the global competitiveness of Dubai's graduates, increase educational tourism tenfold by 2033, integrate a new generation of Emiratis into the workforce and future sectors, and contribute to doubling Dubai's economy over the next decade, positioning the city among the world's top three economic hubs.
'
Dubai's Growing Higher Education Ecosystem
Currently, Dubai hosts 41 private international higher education providers, with 37 being branch campuses of globally recognized universities. Notably, campuses such as the University of Manchester Dubai and the University of Birmingham Dubai benefit from their parent campuses' global standing, ranked 35th and 76th respectively in the QS World University Rankings 2026.
Other notable institutions include Curtin University Dubai and the University of Wollongong in Dubai, ranked 183rd and 184th respectively.
Three additional universities with Dubai campuses are also ranked within the top 300 globally.
In the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject, several Dubai-based institutions have been recognized among the world's best in Business and Management:
London Business School is ranked 7th
ESCP is at 54th
Luiss University holds the 67th spot
Additionally, Instituto Marangoni, a leading institute in design education, ranks between 51st and 100th globally for Art and Design.
Ambitious Targets for International Student Growth
This university expansion is part of Dubai's broader global university attraction project, embedded within the Education 33 strategy.
The initiative aims to build a robust academic ecosystem by blending international and local education, investing in scientific research, and encouraging cross-border collaborations.
A key target is for international students to make up 50% of Dubai's higher education population by 2033. This would contribute approximately Dh 5.6 billion($1.524 billion USD) to the education sector's GDP.
Already, Dubai is witnessing this growth. For the 2024-25 academic year, total enrolment at private universities increased by 20%, with international student numbers growing by 29%. Currently, 42,026 students are enrolled across 41 private universities offering over 700 academic programmes designed to equip learners with future-ready skills aligned with Dubai's strategic vision.

5 Ways UK Degrees Help Indian Students Thrive In Global Tech Fields

Last Updated: A UK education equips Indian students with tech skills, global exposure, and work opportunities, making it a strong launchpad for international tech careers. The UK is a top destination for students who want to build a career in technology. It is home to some of the best universities in the world for science, engineering, and emerging tech fields. In fact, three UK universities ranked in the top 10 globally for Engineering and Technology in the 2025 QS World University Rankings. Over 20 UK universities are also in the top 200 for engineering, with eight in the top 100, according to Times Higher Education (THE). Courses in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence (AI), data science, quantum computing, and cybersecurity are widely available across UK institutions. This makes the UK an ideal place for Indian students to start their tech journeys. 1. Top-Quality Education In Emerging Tech Fields UK universities are known worldwide for their strong academic programmes in science, technology, engineering, maths, and medicine (STEMM). Many also offer advanced courses in areas like AI, robotics, cybersecurity, data science, and more. The course content is often designed in partnership with tech companies, which ensures students gain relevant skills and real-world knowledge. Indian students benefit from hands-on learning, critical thinking training, and future-ready skills. After finishing their studies, Indian students can stay in the UK for two years (three years for PhD holders) to find a job under the Graduate Route visa. This gives them time to gain work experience with UK-based or international tech firms. As one Indian graduate, Yashodhra, shared: 'With the Graduate route, my employer doesn't have to worry about sponsoring me, and the whole process of applying was cost-effective and straightforward." 4. Global Recognition of UK Degrees A degree from a UK university is respected around the world. Employers across countries value UK qualifications, especially in technology and engineering. This gives Indian students an edge when applying for jobs internationally and increases their chances of building a career in tech, no matter where they go. 5. Global Mindset and Adaptability Studying in the UK helps Indian students develop confidence, independence, and teamwork skills. Living in a multicultural environment also teaches them how to work well with people from different backgrounds—an important skill in today's global tech industry. Shilpa, a Women in STEM scholar, said, 'Getting used to a new education system takes time. Since coming here, I've realised that learning is more important than grades alone. I've learned a lot in the last year. As the old saying goes, 'hard work always pays'." A UK education offers more than just a degree — it provides Indian students with skills, experience, and global opportunities in the tech world. With support from the British Council through scholarships and guidance, students can turn their dreams into reality.

'What are they waiting for?': Donald Trump erupts as US House dithers on 'beautiful bill'; warns of voter losses

File photo: US President Donald Trump (Picture credit: AP) US President Donald Trump has issued a blunt warning to Republicans in Congress, expressing frustration over delays in passing his sweeping tax and spending legislation. Posting on Truth Social early Thursday, Trump wrote: 'Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove??? MAGA is not happy, and it's costing you votes!!!' Trump's outburst came as Republican leaders in the House of Representatives struggled to rally enough support for a procedural vote needed to move the bill forward. Later, in a separate post, he urged Republicans to support the bill. "For Republicans, this should be an easy yes vote. Ridiculous!!!", he wrote. As per news agency AFP, House Speaker Mike Johnson kept the vote open for hours, desperately negotiating with holdouts behind the scenes. The bill had already passed the Senate by a single vote but must now return to the House for final approval due to changes made in the upper chamber. Nicknamed the 'One Big Beautiful Bill,' Trump's legislative package combines tax cuts with increased defence spending and billions set aside for mass deportation efforts. It also includes the largest reduction in Medicaid since the programme's inception in the 1960s and adds an estimated $3.4 trillion to the national deficit over a decade. Some House Republicans remain deeply divided. Fiscal conservatives object to the rising debt, while moderates fear the cuts could hurt their re-election chances, particularly with an estimated 17 million people at risk of losing health coverage and rural hospitals facing possible closure. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Despite mounting tensions, Speaker Johnson has stayed optimistic, telling reporters, 'We're going to get there tonight. We're working on it and very, very positive about our progress,' according to Politico. Trump, meanwhile, has taken a hands-on approach. According to CNN, he and Vice President JD Vance have held several meetings at the White House with sceptical Republicans. In a session aimed at centrist lawmakers, Trump's tone was described as 'cordial,' and Dr Mehmet Oz, now overseeing Medicaid, was brought in to explain how the bill's provisions would affect healthcare in members' districts. As per CNN, Rep Dusty Johnson of South Dakota said after one such meeting that members were indeed shifting their stance, 'Those meetings are having a big impact, members are moving to yes.' But some conservatives remain unmoved. Texas Republican Chip Roy, a key member of the Freedom Caucus, criticised the Senate's version, saying, 'We need more spending restraint.' His colleague, Rep. Andy Harris, outright refused to attend the White House talks, stating, 'I'm still voting no on the rule. We have to get this thing right.' Trump's allies believe passing the bill by his self-imposed July 4 deadline would solidify his second-term legacy, with promises such as no taxes on tips or overtime pay and work requirements for welfare recipients. However, delays caused by GOP infighting, flight disruptions, and rule vote resistance have made it difficult to stick to the timeline. The House Rules Committee did clear an early hurdle by advancing the bill late Tuesday, but prominent conservatives on the panel, including Reps. Ralph Norman and Chip Roy, voted with Democrats to oppose the measure. The stakes are high. House Republicans can only afford to lose three votes if all members are present.
