PUTRAJAYA : Putrajaya PKR has lodged a police report against PAS organ Harakah Daily over an allegedly seditious article that promotes a protest against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
At a press conference outside the district police headquarters, the division's deputy chief Shariff Jeev claimed the article contained seditious content that would incite Malaysians.
'We urge the police to investigate the article and the planned protests under Section 124B of the Penal Code (for committing an activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy) or any appropriate law,' he said.
When asked if he wanted the authorities to prevent the rally from going ahead, he said it should be allowed to proceed if it was held in an 'appropriate way'.
Shariff nonetheless claimed that the protest planned for July 26 could become a threat to the country's peaceful way of life and its parliamentary democracy.
'So far, 52 police reports have been lodged throughout the country, including in Sabah and Sarawak. Today alone six reports were filed', he added.
Putrajaya PKR information chief Hafiz Osman called for the protest to be held somewhere else instead of Dataran Merdeka to prevent it from 'spiralling out of control'.
'We do not want the protesters to provoke others. We hope the police will be able to cordon off the area.'
The rally organised by Perikatan Nasional aims to push for Anwar's resignation as prime minister.
Last week, over 300 rallied in Shah Alam for the same cause. The smaller rally was held to promote the Dataran Merdeka protest.

KOTA BHARU, July 17 — The remand order against a married couple who were arrested in Kuala Krai on suspicion of masterminding the trafficking of ganja worth RM3.1 million has been extended for another seven days from today until next Monday. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the two suspects, aged 31 and 49 respectively, are now being investigated in detail to assist in further investigations into the case. He said for the case involving a woman chicken trader and her e-hailing driver husband, charges will be laid on July 21. 'So far, no other arrests have been made and investigations are still ongoing to identify whether the couple has links to other syndicates,' he said in a special press conference at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters, here, today. Last Sunday, Bernama reported that police had busted a drug trafficking syndicate using cashew nut packets after arresting a local couple and seizing various drugs worth a total of about RM3.1 million last Friday. The two suspects were arrested at about 4pm at Jalan Padang Sembilan, Kuala Krai after police found the Proton X70 vehicle they were travelling in, moving in a suspicious condition. Meanwhile, Mohd Yusoff said the index crime in Kelantan for the first quarter of January to June 2025 recorded a decrease of 14.3 per cent or 162 cases, with 967 cases reported compared to 1,129 cases for the same period last year. However, he said, for violent crimes, there was an increase of 19 rape cases or 26.8 per cent; armed robbery increased by four cases (400 per cent); and injury cases increased by 16 cases (18.8 per cent). 'This shows the urgent need to strengthen monitoring, community education and enforcement in hot spots,' he said. Commenting on road accident statistics, he said 7,055 cases were recorded for the period January to June 2025, showing a decrease of 123 cases or two per cent compared to 7,178 cases in the same period last year. Fatal accident cases also dropped to 132 cases compared to 169 cases the previous year, a decrease of 32 cases or 19 per cent. — Bernama

A source said inspections of the baby's body found no elements of foul play, and that the hospital lodged a police report soon after. PETALING JAYA : A six-month-old baby boy died at a childcare centre in Padang Temu, Melaka, yesterday evening, believed to be due to suffocation. Utusan Malaysia reported that the caregiver, who had been rotating duties with another staff member, discovered the boy lying face-down with a blue face. 'The nursery rushed the baby to the Ujong Pasir clinic where a medical team gave CPR for 30 minutes before sending the baby to Melaka Hospital in an ambulance. 'As soon as they reached the hospital's red zone, the baby was given CPR aid again, but was soon confirmed as dead,' the portal quoted a source as saying. The source said inspections of the baby's body found no elements of foul play, and that the hospital lodged a police report soon after. Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit confirmed the report and said it is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence involving the care of a child. Kosmo later reported that on the same day, another three-year-old girl at the centre suffered an injury to her left ear from a blow by a caregiver. The child's mother, Nurul Shafiqa Dawood, said she picked up her daughter Faiqah Dalila Faris Danial at 5.30pm, and that the child complained of pain in her left ear. 'She cried all night due to the pain. I brought her to the clinic at 11pm and the doctor confirmed that her left ear was injured and swollen. We then went to Melaka Hospital and lodged a police report,' she told reporters today.
