Top performing service providers get awards
Eight public service providers were recognised for reaching the highest levels of excellence in delivering government services in Muscat Governorate. This event is part of an effort to strengthen the institutional excellence system and motivate entities to improve performance efficiency and the quality of government services.
The winners included the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the National Museum, Al Amal Club - the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Education, the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, and the Consumer Protection Authority.
The selection process was based on a comprehensive evaluation that considered performance indicators, operational efficiency and beneficiary satisfaction surveys.
Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, expressed that this recognition acknowledges the sincere efforts and commitment of the institutions to provide excellent services to citizens and residents. He highlighted that the honoured entities serve as role models for performance excellence and emphasised that service excellence is a result of a culture of continuous learning in the workplace.
He also mentioned that Muscat Governorate, within the framework of decentralisation and strengthening the roles of governorates, aims to monitor service quality and oversee the implementation of development plans. This is done by evaluating the performance of service outlets in coordination with relevant authorities to ensure alignment with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040. Muscat Governorate values the honoured entities for their effective commitment to institutional work methodologies and a culture of sustainable improvement.

One of the most promising sectors in this regard is manufacturing, which is fast becoming a cornerstone of Oman's economic diversification strategy. Over the past four years, the manufacturing sector has achieved an average growth rate of 7.3%, reaching a value of RO 3.6 billion in 2024, equivalent to 9% of Oman's GDP. Export figures from this sector are equally impressive, totaling RO 6.2 billion. Meanwhile, FDI into manufacturing surged from RO 1.7 billion in 2021 to RO 2.5 billion in 2024, and Chinese capital is expected to further catalyse this momentum. With enhanced collaboration in advanced manufacturing, industrial automation, and technology transfer, the sector is poised for accelerated expansion. This dynamic is further supported by Oman's strategic location at the crossroads of major global trade routes, modern logistics infrastructure, and transparent investment frameworks. As China continues its outward economic engagement—driven by the Belt and Road Initiative—Oman is well-positioned to serve as a critical link between Asia, the Gulf, East Africa, and beyond. Licensing mandatory for 43 jobs in energy, minerals sector in Oman
Muscat – Ministry of Labour has announced that starting September 1, 2025 licensing requirements will be enforced for 43 technical and operational professions within establishments operating in Oman's energy and minerals sector. The decision, taken in coordination with Ministry of Energy and Minerals, aims to regulate the labour market and enhance efficiency of national cadres. As per the announcement, individuals currently engaged or newly appointed in the listed professions must obtain a professional practice licence from Oman Energy Association's Sector Skills Unit for the Energy and Minerals Sector. The licence will be a mandatory requirement for new and renewal of work permits for these roles. 'Ministry of Labour will not issue new or renew any work permit unless the approved licence is submitted,' the ministry stated. 'All establishments are requested to comply and take the necessary steps to ensure implementation.' This licensing system applies to a wide range of professions, including HSE advisors, various equipment operators such as crane, forklift and excavators, lifting supervisors, technicians, welders, scaffolders, electricians and drilling specialists. Ministry of Labour emphasised that the new licensing framework forms part of its broader strategy to improve skill standards, support Omanisation and align workforce qualifications with sector-specific demands.
