Chilling new details emerge about how a Taekwondo instructor strangled one of his students to death and killed the boy's parents - as his twisted past as a 'status-obsessed, serial liar' comes to light
Kyung Kwang Yoo pleaded guilty to three counts of murder at Parramatta Local Court in Sydney 's west on Thursday via video link.
Disturbing court documents have pulled back the curtain on the night Yoo, who was known by his students as 'Master Lion', killed the boy, his mother Min Kyung 'Sue' Cho - 41, and his father Hyun Soo 'Steven' Cho - 39.
On February 19, 2024, the boy arrived at Lion's Taekwondo Martial Arts Academy in North Parramatta at about 4.30pm for his regular Monday night lessons.
He had been a student at the academy for three years and was taking double classes with Yoo to prepare for his upcoming black belt assessment.
Ms Choo was seen arriving the academy about 6.20pm and spoke to Yoo while her son waited in a reception area, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
CCTV captured the mother following Yoo through a classroom and into a storeroom.
He strangled her to death inside.
When his classes ended at 8pm, Yoo asked the boy to follow him into the same storeroom, where the child was also strangled to death.
Case facts state that after killing her and her son, Yoo took Ms Cho's BMW and drove to her family home in nearby Baulkham Hills.
There he found Mr Cho and repeatedly stabbed him in the head, neck and torso with a knife and a pair of scissors.
Mr Cho attempted to fight off Yoo and inflicted several stab wounds on the taekwondo instructor in self defence.
At about 11pm, Yoo returned to the taekwondo academy to retrieve his phone and Ms Cho's Apple Watch.
He then called his wife and told her he'd been stabbed. The pair decided to meet at a hospital.
While at the hospital, Yoo told police he'd been attacked by three people at a Woolworths car park and had driven his Toyota Camry to the hospital.
No motive for the triple homicide has been confirmed, however a disturbing trend has emerged of Yoo lying about his success, wealth and social status.
One of his lies included being the owner of a BMW.
Weeks before the gruesome murders, Yoo told his wife he would be receiving a BMW from his secondary employer, a local high school.
At about 8pm on the night of the murders, Yoo called his wife to say his BMW had arrived.
Soon after that conversation he drove Ms Cho's BMW to the Cho's family home.
Court documents state Yoo's wife told police he'd driven a friend's BMW that night, which led officers to search the vehicle and discover blood.
Police also found documents for the sale of a multimillion-dollar home in Mosman, papers in the name of 'Professor Kwang Yoo' and a false master's degree from Sydney University.
Detectives claimed Yoo was known to lie to his friends and family about his income, education and family deaths and had an 'obsession' with luxury goods.
His deceptions included telling his family his home had a view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and he owned a Lamborghini.
Yoo also told his wife and sister he had a PhD and others that he'd competed in the Olympics.
Other associates of Yoo believed both his parents and his wife had died from Covid.
Friends of the Cho family became concerned on the morning of February 20, 2024, and headed to their home.
They called police after spotting an object covered by a blanket.
Officers found Mr Cho's body in the home and headed to Lion's Taekwondo Academy, where blood was found on the building's front step and interior.
The boy's body was found in the storeroom while Ms Cho's body was discovered in an office.
Yoo was arrested at the hospital that evening and has been in custody since.
He will be sentenced in the NSW Supreme Court later this year. The case will next be mentioned on August 1.

A father will serve a reduced sentence upon appeal after impregnating his own daughter and searching for fake DNA tests. The West Australian forklift driver, who legally cannot be named, pleaded guilty in 2024 to 40 counts of sexual offending against his daughter, 17, when she was aged between 11 and 14. He was charged over four years of offending between 2019 and 2022, after one of the teen's teacher discovered she was pregnant at 14-years-old. He also pleaded guilty to five further counts of possessing child sexual abuse material, produced while committing the sexual offences. He was dealt a 14-and-a-half year prison term for the offending. But he appealed the sentence on account of his early guilty plea. He was granted a 10 per cent sentence reduction for the plea, but argued it should have been 25 per cent. The WA Supreme Court found his appeal to have solid grounds. The man cannot be named at risk of identifying his daughter as a survivor of child sexual abuse. His lawyer, Mark Gunning, said the original 10 per cent discount against his sentence was 'manifestly inadequate', adding his early plea had saved his daughter from testifying at a trial. Public prosecutions lawyer Natalie Sinton said the reduction was not unreasonable as the man's daughter had given birth to his child and he had filmed his acts. However, she conceded she was unaware of any case where an offender having entered a plea of guilty at the first reasonable opportunity was afforded a discount of only 10 per cent. The Supreme Court panel of appeals ruled in the man's favour, deciding the initial 10 per cent reduction had been 'unreasonable' and 'plainly unjust'. The panel adjusted his sentence to include a 22 per cent discount against the first three counts of offending, and 20 per cent for the remaining accounts. The man will now serve 12 years, two-and-a-half years less than his original sentence. 'As strong as the State's case was in relation to all of the counts, counts one, two, and three were slightly weaker, having regard to the fact that they were not video recorded,' the panel stated. The court heard how the offending was 'brazen' and occurred on occasion with other children in the home, or on one occasion with other children in the room. It heard he raped his daughter without using a condom, exposing her to potential diseases and the risk of pregnancy. Her eventual pregnancy came to light when the school brought it to the attention of the police. She then told her mother, who has been separated from the father for 15 years, that her baby was his. She was about 30 weeks pregnant at that stage. When police arrested and interviewed the father in 2023, they seized his telephone and discovered a series of disturbing Google searches. They included 'Can a mother refuse a paternity test Australia,' 'What does a fake DNA test look like,' 'How long can a drug test pick up meth,' and 'Can police see deleted DMs'. He later read a news article titled: 'Man gaoled for fake DNA test to deny parentage of two sons'. The man's amended sentence is backdated to March 28, 2023. He is already eligible for parole. A KEY CLUE has been found in the unsolved murder of a mum shot dead on her sofa when three men burst into her home 20 years ago. The family of the mother, 22, has appealed for anyone with information to come forward. 3 Lucy Hargreaves, 22, was asleep on the sofa when three men burst into her home in Walton, Liverpool, on August 3 2005 and fatally injured her. The killers then set fire to the home on Lambourne Road, where her partner and two-year-old daughter were upstairs, and they had to escape through a window. Two decades on, her family released a previously unshared photograph of the mother-of-three, taken at college. They said: "Over the past 20 years, people will have talked with family and friends. "A number of people were contacted by males using a phone that was stolen, along with a vehicle used in Lucy's murder. "The people who received those calls, along with others, could have information which could be crucial in achieving justice for Lucy, her parents, sister, children and all her extended family and friends. "We appeal directly to them to please come forward. Now is the time." Police arrested 21 people as part of their investigations, but no-one has been convicted. Ms Hargreaves' family, who said they "miss her every single day", welcomed a focus on tackling violence against women and girls in recent years. They praised the families of other victims of gun crime, including the mothers of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt Korbel and Ashley Dale, 28, who were shot in their homes in separate incidents in Liverpool in August 2022. The family said: "We greatly admire the determination and guts of the families of those who have more recently been killed as a result of gun crime here in Merseyside. "The mums of both Ashley Dale and Olivia Pratt Korbel have led a real and powerful community challenge to men of violence." The family added: "We consider ourselves to be an ordinary local family with strong roots in the Walton, Norris Green, Croxteth and Dovecot areas of Liverpool. "Lucy's nanny Joyce was a strong mother of eight who had to cope with the loss of three granddaughters in her lifetime - including Lucy. "Her nanny Betty, left a widow aged 35 with six children to bring up, was awarded the British Empire Medal for her services to nursing as an auxiliary nurse in the Royal Liverpool Hospital. "They were two strong local women typical of their generation, and Lucy too was a strong woman who could have achieved so much had she only been given the opportunity." Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about a gold Lexus car, believed to have been dumped shortly after the shooting on Richard Kelly Drive, Clubmoor, by a number of men who then ran in the direction of Normandale Road.
