Scam warning as festival season gets underway
Festival and gig-goers are being warned to be cautious when purchasing tickets as a summer of events gets underway, with demand for gigs making it a prime time for scams to take place.
Concert season is well and truly underway with Zach Bryan playing three sold out nights at Phoenix Park over the weekend and Olivia Rodrigo at Marlay Park on Tuesday.
There is plenty more to come with OASIS' two nights at Croke Park in August and Lana Del Rey and Dua Lipa among the acts taking to the stage for Irish fans before that. Electric Picnic also takes place in late August with Fatboy Slim, Chappell Roan and Kings of Leon some of the acts headlining the three-day festival.
With plenty of festivals and gigs to look forward to and fans eager to get their hands on sold-out tickets, Ticketmaster have urged music fans to be alert when purchasing tickets.
The demand for gigs means its a prime opportunity for fraudsters to catch unsuspecting fans out with Ticketmaster advising people to avoid social media resellers and unofficial platforms and buy 'only from official channels.'
They said: 'The most reliable way to secure genuine tickets is through an event's official ticketing agent or venue. Fans should always refer to the artist's official website, where approved ticket providers are listed.'
Unfortunately, cunning scammers are now able to replicate websites to make it appear to be legitimate, with anyone purchasing tickets for events reminded to check the URL to ensure you are definitely on the official website.
Mobile tickets are a better option as scammers can sell duplicates of the same printed ticket, whereas Ticketmaster's mobile tickets use a dynamic barcode which refreshes every 15 seconds to prevent fraud.

Kneecap added to Electric Picnic line-up, organisers confirm
Kneecap have been added to the line up at this year's Electric Picnic festival, organisers have announced. The festival, which is held annually in Stradbally, Co Laois, will host the rap trio as part of the line-up on the main stage. This year's Electric Picnic will run from August 29 until August 31. "This is going to be a special one," said the band in a post on social media. The six headline acts performing this year include Hozier and US pop sensation Chappell Roan, both of whom will headline the Friday night. English musician Sam Fender will headline on Saturday night, as will Fatboy Slim. And on Sunday, US rock band Kings Of Leon will top the billing and make their EP debut, alongside Becky Hill. Other acts across the weekend will include Kingfishr, Bell X1 and The Kooks. This year's Electric Picnic is set to be the biggest one yet after permission was granted for the capacity to increase from 75,000 to 80,000 at Stradbally Estate. Kneecap's addition to the line-up comes after their performance at Glastonbury on Saturday dominated headlines. Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin, and JJ Ó Dochartaigh have been the subject of much political and media discussion in the UK after Ó hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, was charged with a terror offence. Ó hAnnaidh, 27, was charged with allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah, while saying "up Hamas, up Hezbollah" at a London gig in November last year. He was released on unconditional bail until the next hearing at the same court on 20 August. In a separate case, the UK's Met Police have confirmed they will not be charging members of Kneecap for allegedly calling on fans to "kill your local MP". In the run-up to the Glastonbury festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset, several British politicians called for Kneecap to be removed from the line-up and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said their performance would not be "appropriate". Kneecap's Ó Cairealláin, who performs under the name Móglaí Bap, told the Glastonbury crowd from the West Holts Stage on Saturday: "The Prime Minister of your country, not mine, said he didn't want us to play, so f*** Keir Starmer." He also said a "big thank you to the Eavis family" who run the festival, saying "they stood strong" amid calls for the organisers to drop Kneecap from the line-up. The trio led crowds in chants of "Free Palestine", with Mo Chara also commenting on the sheer number of flags at the festival. Kneecap join Electric Picnic line-up
Kneecap have joined the bill for this year's Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally, Co Laois, organisers have announced. "This is going to be a special one," said the festival in a post on social media announcing that Kneecap had become part of the 29-31 August line-up. On Saturday, Kneecap led Glastonbury crowds in chants of "f*** Keir Starmer" during their set at the festival. The group - Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin, and JJ Ó Dochartaigh - who hail from Belfast and Derry, have been in the headlines after member Ó hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, was charged with a terror offence in the UK. The trio led crowds in chants of "Free Palestine", with Mo Chara commenting on the sheer number of flags at the festival. In reference to his bandmate's forthcoming court date, Ó Cairealláin said they would "start a riot outside the courts", before clarifying: "No riots just love and support, and support for Palestine." Also on Saturday, Bob Vylan rapper Bobby Vylan led crowds at the festival's West Holts Stage in chants of: "Free, free Palestine" and: "Death, death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)". The BBC said it "should have pulled" the live stream of the punk rap duo's performance during Glastonbury, as Bob Vylan's set contained "utterly unacceptable" and "anti-Semitic sentiments". Earlier, the BBC had confirmed it would not be live-streaming Kneecap's set. The performance was subsequently made available in edited form. Both Kneecap and Bob Vylan's controversial sets at the festival are being assessed by Avon and Somerset Police to decide whether any offences were committed.
