Power Generation Begins at Srisailam Hydropower Stations

Hans India01-07-2025
Power generation has commenced at both the Right and Left Hydropower Stations within the Srisailam Project. Currently, 58,750 cusecs of water is being released to the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam while electricity is being generated. The reservoir is receiving a significant influx of 1,00085 cusecs of floodwater from the upper catchment area of Jurala.
As of 6 am on Tuesday, the water level at Srisailam was recorded at 874.30 feet, with water storage levels at 160.52 TMC. This development marks an important step in harnessing hydropower resources in the region.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh is set to experience a predominantly cloudy day, with light to moderate rain expected across North Andhra and Coastal Andhra from morning through to evening. Certain areas may even see heavy rainfall.
Winds are currently blowing across North Andhra, contributing to the change in weather patterns. However, the Amaravati Meteorological Centre has reported that Rayalaseema will remain dry today, in contrast to the rain expected in other regions.

Karnataka increases water release rate; Mettur dam set to reach full capacity

Stanley Reservoir in Mettur SALEM: Water level in the Stanley Reservoir in Mettur is expected to reach its full capacity of 120 feet within a week for the first time this year as Karnataka started releasing 50,000 cusecs from the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam on Wednesday. Karnataka issued a flood alert to areas along the Cauvery river. Officials in the neighbouring state indicated that they may increase the discharge rate as catchment areas were receiving heavy rain. Tamil Nadu water resources department officials indicated that water released from the KRS dam was expected to arrive at the Mettur dam by Thursday evening. As of Wednesday, the Mettur dam's water level stood at 112.85 feet. The catchment areas of the KRS dam in Karnataka and the Kabini dam area in Kerala are experiencing continuous rainfall. Karnataka's water resources department officials anticipate that the southwest monsoon will strengthen in the first week of July. An official said the KRS dam was approaching its full capacity of 124.8 feet, with the water level recorded at 120 feet on Wednesday, holding a capacity of 49.45 TMC feet. The Kabini dam was also nearing its full capacity of 65 feet, with its current water level at 59.21 feet. Reports indicate that 12,000 cubic feet of water was being released from the Kabini dam, which is expected to reach the Mettur dam in a day or two.

Goa-Lucknow IndiGo flight faced mid-air turbulence, landed safely: Airline

A Lucknow-bound IndiGo flight from Goa experienced mid-air turbulence on Monday due to adverse weather conditions but the crew navigated the aircraft safely, the airline said in a statement on Tuesday. The flight 6E 6811 landed safely in Lucknow, the airline said without divulging further details. "IndiGo flight 6E 6811 from North Goa to Lucknow on June 16, experienced turbulence momentarily due to prevailing active monsoon weather conditions in western India," the airline said. It further said its pilots and cabin crew, trained to handle such situations, followed "established protocols" to ensure customer safety. Last month, a Srinagar-bound IndiGo flight from Delhi with 227 passengers, including a delegation of TMC MPs, on board encountered sudden hailstorm, prompting the pilot to report the "emergency" to air traffic control at Srinagar. All passengers deplaned safely but the nose of the aircraft was damaged.
