Gulf U-16 basketball c'ship important for future talents: Saadoun Al Kuwari

The Gulf Basketball Federation, in collaboration with its counterpart, the Bahrain Basketball Federation, is actively engaged in finalizing preparations for the Gulf U-16 Basketball Championship. This tournament is set to take place in the Kingdom of Bahrain from July 22 to 27, 2025, featuring six participating teams: Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, and Kuwait.
The tournament holds significant importance, as both the champion and the runner-up will secure two direct spots in the U-16 Asian Cup Finals, scheduled to occur in Mongolia in September 2025.
In this regard, Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, Secretary-General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Secretary-General of the Gulf Basketball Federation, conveyed his hopes for the success of all teams involved, urging them to showcase the high technical standards that Gulf basketball is known for.
He highlighted the significance of this event, which will grant the champion and runner-up two berths to the Asian Cup Finals, thereby enhancing the technical quality of the tournament and fostering enthusiasm and competition among the teams in the Gulf Championship.
He stated, 'We at the Gulf Basketball Federation, in partnership with the Bahrain Basketball Federation, are committed to organizing an outstanding tournament that reflects the advanced level of the sport in the region.'
He further emphasized: 'We always strive, in cooperation with the Asian Football Confederation, to develop Gulf competitions and enhance the efficiency and quality of teams. Granting two direct spots to the Asian Cup through the Gulf Championship is an international recognition of the development of the youth categories in the Gulf countries and gives national teams a greater incentive to excel and qualify.'
Al Kuwari added: 'Through this tournament, we seek to enhance the readiness of Gulf national team players and achieve our long-term goals of discovering talent, expanding the practice base, and building teams capable of competing on the continent and internationally.'
The tournament draw has resulted in the division of teams into two distinct groups. Group A comprises Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE, whereas Group B consists of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the Sultanate of Oman.

Tribune News Network Doha A delegation from the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and the Tournament Security Force are participating in a knowledge sharing programme at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, FIFA's new look global club tournament which is attracting worldwide attention and taking place across 12 venues in 11 US host cities. The programme spans 6 critical functional areas including Safety and Security, Venue Management, Media Operations, Event Experience, Mobility and Accreditation. SC staff and members of the Tournament Security Force have been deployed to a number of the tournament's key strategic venues, including Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, Seattle's Lumen Field, and MetLife Stadium, just outside of New York City. Through these placements, SC staff and members of the Tournament Security Force are helping deliver critical services at some of the tournament's biggest matches, including the opening match in Miami, which took place on 14 June in front of 60,000 fans, PSG vs Atletico Madrid in front of 80,000 at the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium in Los Angeles, and the Final, which will take place in New York on 13 July at the 90,000-capacity MetLife Stadium. As part the programme, participants have been sharing learnings and knowledge gained from Qatar hosting a number of mega sporting events, the highlight of which was the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – widely considered to be the best edition of the tournament in history. The programme provided participants with valuable insights and the opportunity to stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends and developments when it comes to technological innovation and fan experience. This comes in preparation for several football events Qatar is hosting later this year, including the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2025 and the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025. Hassan Al Haydos to rejoin national team: QFA

DOHA: Qatar Football Association (QFA) has announced the return of Hassan Al Haydos to the national team. He had earlier announced his retirement from international football. In a statement, the QFA said that Al Haydos will join the squad for the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for next October. The Qatari team is preparing for the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers, with Qatar hosting one of the two groups. The draw will be held on July 17. Al Haydos retired from international football following the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, which Qatar won for the second time after beating Jordan 3-1 in the final. The Al Sadd player is considered one of the key players in the history of the Qatari team, having played 184 international matches, scoring 42 goals in various tournaments.
