Melbourne Storm young gun Sua Fa'alogo limps off after playing starring role in huge win over Cronulla

Melbourne have kept their unbeaten record at home alive with a gritty 30-6 win over Cronulla, dumping the Sharks out of the NRL top eight.
The spicy rivalry between the two teams continued in their Sunday afternoon match at AAMI Park, with the game up for grabs until the 64th minute when the Storm kicked away.
Centre Nick Meaney crossed for the home side's third try after some brilliant lead-up work by back-rower Eli Katoa and Jahrome Hughes.
The converted try pushed the margin out to a 12-point lead and set up sweet revenge for the Storm's round-11 loss to Cronulla.
While Melbourne locked down third spot on the ladder, the Sharks tumbled from sixth to 10th on the back of the loss.
Katoa and Hughes combined for three of Melbourne's tries, with the Tongan international scoring the opener after running through a hole off a perfect pass from his halfback.
Sua Fa'alogo then had the 21,000-strong crowd on their feet when Sharks halfback Nicho Hynes attempted to bat a ball on that landed in the arms of the exciting young winger.
The 22-year-old pocket rocket sprinted 90 metres downfield, outpacing Cronulla fullback Will Kennedy.
Cronulla got on the scoreboard with six minutes remaining in the first half when Fa'alogo watched a Hughes bomb bounce over his head and into the arms of Braydon Trindall, who dived over the line.
The teams started the second half 10-6, with a Ryan Papenhuyzen penalty goal in the 44th minute adding another two points to the home side's tally.
Some poor discipline and silly errors then started to take a toll on the Sharks, and the ruthless Storm made them pay.
Katoa twice out-leapt Kennedy to set up tries for Meaney and then Hughes, before Queensland Origin forward Trent Loiero iced the win with a try in the dying minutes.
The victory was soured for the home side with Fa'alogo appearing to suffer a serious hamstring injury when he was clipped while making a 50-metre dash with just two minutes remaining in the match.

AC/DC surpasses sales record by selling over 320,000 tickets in a single day for upcoming Australian tour

AC/DC have smashed previous records after 320,000 fans scored seats on the first day of ticket sales last Thursday. The iconic rock band eclipsed their previous sales record, surpassing sales for the Black Ice World Tour in 2009. AC/DC will tour Australia for the first time in a decade, performing in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane through November and December 2025. Melbourne-based punk outfit Amyl and the Sniffers are confirmed as their Australian support act as part of their global POWER UP tour. The award-winning band will begin their Australian leg at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 12 and 16, followed by concerts at Sydney's Accor Stadium on November 21 and 25. They will also play at the Adelaide Street Circuit for the BP Adelaide Grand Final on November 30, followed by shows at Perth and Brisbane in December. There are still tickets available on Ticketek in the upper bays of stadiums starting from $203, with premium tickets on sale for more than $400. Ticket prices start from $132.45 for reserve seating and $305.75 for general admission front standing. A ticket limit of 8 per transaction is enforced. Ticketek is the official provider for shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane. Tickets for Adelaide are only available for official purchase via Ticketmaster. In addition to the tour announcement, Melbourne City Council has indicated it will seek permission for the band to recreate their iconic 1976 'It's a Long Way to the Top' music video, originally filmed on Swanson Street. AC/DC will conclude performances across the United States and Europe, where early tour legs starting in May 2024 have drawn strong crowd numbers and critical acclaim. The band sold 1.7 million tickets in the first few days when their 2024 European shows went on sale. The last time AC/DC rocked on home shores was at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium in December 2015, as part of their Rock or Bust World Tour. Ticketek were the biggest winners last Thursday with over 370,000 tickets sold in a single day. This set a new all-time high with daily sales surpassing a previous record set by The Ashes Tour in the beginning of June. Additionally, Ticketek traded almost 50,000 tickets to other events including AFL and NRL fixtures. 'These results are a reflection of the collaboration, passion, and sheer effort from every part of our business. I'm incredibly proud of what the team has accomplished,' Cameron Hoy, Ticketek Entertainment Group's Head of Global Ticketing, said.

Melbourne Storm flyer Sua Fa'alogo could miss 12 weeks with hamstring strain

Melbourne Storm remain hopeful cult hero Sua Fa'alogo could be back in time for finals after scans delivered the worst possible news on his hamstring injury. Fa'alogo, who suffered the injury while flying down the sideline at AAMI Park on Sunday, could miss up to 12 weeks with a grade three hamstring strain. The club confirmed the horror news in a statement late on Monday afternoon. 'Sua will commence his rehab program this week, working closely with the Club's medical and high-performance staff, with the aim of returning at the back end of the season,' the statement said. Storm coach Craig Bellamy wasn't hopeful last match and knows the injury could force him to think outside the box with other backline stars including Will Warbrick also sidelined. 'Yeah it didn't look good when it happened, it didn't look good when he came off,' Bellamy said. 'I think we'll certainly have someone playing out of position.

Carlton president declares Michael Voss safe for remainder of 2025, but won't guarantee next season

Carlton president Rob Priestley won't guarantee Michael Voss will see out his contract, declaring the AFL club will make a "calm and rational" decision on the coach's future over the next two months. Voss, who is contracted for 2026, has been under an intense blowtorch as the Blues (6-9) have all but fallen out of finals contention this season. Incoming CEO Graham Wright will have a significant say over the 49-year-old's position, with his official takeover from current boss Brian Cook brought forward to August 15. "Vossy is contracted until the end of 26 — that doesn't change," Priestley told reporters after Carlton's training session on Monday. "I think what we're trying to do here is really focus on the next eight weeks (and) get ourselves into the very best possible position addressing things we need to address. "Then that gets us into the end of the season where we can — in a really calm and measured way — make decisions if we need to make them then. Carlton has faced growing discontent from a passionate and frustrated supporter base, which has been starved of success since the club's most recent premiership in 1995. Fans had entered this season full of hope that the flag drought might be about to end, following consecutive finals appearances in Voss's second and third seasons at the helm. But a 50-point loss to Port Adelaide last round brought tension to a head, with Carlton's Princes Park headquarters sprayed with graffiti calling for the club's board and key figures Brad Lloyd and Nick Austin to be sacked. The graffiti message showed support for Voss and also demanded a decision from ruck star Tom De Koning, who is weighing up his playing future amid a huge offer from St Kilda. "There's no doubt all Carlton people are disappointed in where we're up to," Priestley said. "The season hasn't panned out, so far, as we would like. There's no doubt about that and we can't shy away from that. "But the really important thing is we're focused on the next eight weeks and provide all the right support to our footy department — to our playing group, to our coaching group — to really maximise what we can get out of the next eight weeks moving into the off-season." Former Collingwood and Hawthorn administrator Wright has already attended meetings at Carlton and will take over from Cook before the end of the home-and-away season. A decision on the Blues' coaching position will be high on Wright's agenda. "We brought Graham in as a football CEO, and that's what we wanted," Priestley said. "We really want to utilise his expertise, his skills, his experience, to work with our footy department at the moment, and really support them through the coming weeks. "We just wanted to make sure we had that time in August 15 to be able to do that. That's the main reasoning for the timing there." Priestley said De Koning's future will be decided "at the right point in time" as the Saints attempt to lure the 25-year-old gun away. "We've got the right people focused on that," he said. "He loves the club, we love him, so we definitely want him to stay. "But we can't rush that. We've just got to let that play out." AAP
