Jaishankar to tour Singapore, China from today; Chinese FM likely to visit India in July
In Singapore, he will 'meet his counterpart and the leadership of Singapore as part of the regular exchanges between our two countries,' the MEA said.
Thereafter, he will 'visit the People's Republic of China to participate in the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers' Meeting (CFM) being held in Tianjin. Jaishankar will also hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministers' Meeting, it said.
The Meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of theShanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will be held in Tianjin on July 15, a statement by a spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Saturday.
At the invitation of the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, foreign ministers of other SCO member states and heads of the bloc's permanent bodies will attend the meeting, the statement said.
The ministers will exchange views on SCO cooperation in various fields and major international and regional issues, it said.
Wang may also visit India this month to hold a fresh round of talks with NSA Ajit Doval under the framework of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue on the boundary dispute, it is learnt.
Both Wang and Doval are the designated SRs of the boundary mechanism. Both countries held 23 rounds of talks under the SRs mechanism to resolve the dispute but without success.
This will be Jaishankar's first visit to China since the military standoff along the LAC in eastern Ladakh in May 2020.
The meeting of the Foreign Ministers will also set the stage for the SCO Leaders' Summit in Tianjin, expected to be held early September.
Jaishankar's visit follows visits by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and NSA Doval, who had travelled to China in June last week for SCO meetings. Singh took part in the SCO Defence Ministers' conference in Qingdao.
During his talks with Chinese Defence Minister Gen Dong Jun on June 26, Singh proposed that India and China should solve the 'complex issues' under a structured roadmap comprising steps to de-escalate tensions along the frontiers and rejuvenate the existing mechanism to demarcate the borders.
Singh and Dong held bilateral talks on the sidelines of a conclave of the SCO with a focus on maintaining peace and tranquillity along the LAC.
Singh had also emphasised the need to create 'good neighbourly conditions' to achieve the best mutual benefits and called for 'taking action on the ground' to bridge the 'trust deficit' resulting from the 2020 eastern Ladakh border standoff, according to an Indian readout on the meeting on June 27.
Reacting to Singh's statement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning had said that the boundary question is 'complicated, and it takes time to settle it'.

New Delhi: Over 60 per cent of undergraduate students at Delhi University are expected to pursue the optional fourth year under the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP), vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh said on Saturday, even as questions continue to be raised about the programme's implementation and long-term viability. "DU is ready for the fourth year," Singh said at the university's executive council (EC) meeting, where several administrative and academic proposals were tabled and approved. He added that the university is fully prepared for the rollout and that solutions are being worked out for colleges facing implementation challenges. "In colleges which have a shortage of faculty, provision will be made for engaging some guest faculty as well as regular teachers from the same college or other colleges to take additional classes," Singh said. However, he clarified that only regular faculty will be assigned to teach fourth-year students, while guest faculty will teach only junior classes. He further said that provision would also be made for proper payment for both teachers and non-teaching staff handling overtime duties. While the VC's remarks aimed to project confidence in the university's preparedness, some council members reiterated their earlier objections, pointing to challenges in sustaining academic rigour, ensuring research quality, and addressing equity in access. Among other decisions, EC approved infrastructure development projects worth nearly Rs 1,912.2 crore, including hostel construction, new academic buildings, and retrofitting of old structures across campuses. The council also approved the appointment of Prof Rajni Abbi as director of the South Campus, and endorsed the setup of solar power plants in collaboration with SECI. A committee was constituted to explore the possibility of instituting a sports scholarship in memory of former Union Minister and DU alumnus Arun Jaitley, which will consult with his family.

EAM Jaishankar to tour Singapore, China from July 13
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will embark on a three-day visit to Singapore and China on Sunday (July 13, 2025). Mr. Jaishankar is visiting China to attend a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in the Chinese city of Tianjin, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). It would be Mr. Jaishankar's first visit to China after the ties between the two countries came under severe strain following the 2020 military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. "External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will be visiting Singapore and the People's Republic of China from July 13 to 15," the MEA said. In Singapore, Mr. Jaishankar will meet his counterpart and the leadership of the country as part of the regular exchanges between the two sides, it said. The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and a deadly clash at the Galwan valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in ties between the two neighbours. The face-off effectively ended after the completion of the disengagement process from the last two friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalised on October 21 last year. In the last few months, India and China have initiated a number of measures to repair the bilateral ties. The decision to revive the SR mechanism and other such dialogue formats was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan on October 23. The Modi-Jinping meeting came two days after India and China firmed up a disengagement pact for Depsang and Demchok.

‘Blessed by Goddess Kali, Indian armed forces displayed valour in Op Sindoor'
1 2 Lucknow: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said the Indian armed forces have the special blessings of Goddess Kali and during Operation Sindoor , they displayed amazing bravery in destroying terrorist camps on Pakistani soil. Speaking at the inauguration of a newly-built Badi Kali temple in Lucknow's Chowk area, the Lucknow MP said that women soldiers and pilots participated in the Operation Sindoor in large numbers and defeated the enemy. The defence minister said the 26th anniversary of the Kargil War is being celebrated this year. "We should remember all the heroes, including Captain Manoj Pandey (of Lucknow), who made the supreme sacrifice for Mother India. The Indian Army regiment in which Captain Pandey served is called the Gurkha Rifles. The slogan of the regiment is Jai Mahakali, Ayo Gurkhali. Mahakali is the inspiration for bravery in this country," he added. Singh expressed deep reverence for the Badi Kali temple, believed to be over 2,000 years old and established by Adi Guru Shankaracharya. He cited the late Lalji Tandon's writings, which mention the temple's ancient origins and spiritual significance. Singh praised the community's active role in the temple's development and acknowledged the govt's support, especially the efforts of tourism minister Jaiveer Singh. He emphasised that the temple is not just a place of worship but a cornerstone of Lucknow's cultural and spiritual identity—standing tall even before the city itself took shape. Reflecting on his personal connection, Singh said he felt blessed to serve as Lucknow's representative, attributing his journey in public life to the grace of Badi Kali Maa. He fondly remembered literary icon Amrit Lal Nagar, who dedicated his life to the service of the Goddess. Singh also announced plans for a new satsang hall and a yoga centre within the temple complex, ensuring it remains a vibrant hub for devotion and wellness. He highlighted the Modi govt's commitment to cultural preservation, citing projects like the Kashi Vishwanath and Mahakal Corridors, as well as the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Meanwhile, deputy CM Brajesh Pathak emphasised the spiritual importance of Goddess Kali in every auspicious household event. Tourism minister Jaiveer Singh credited the govt's efforts in reviving and promoting Sanatan culture and traditions, which, he said, have now reached new heights.
