Lofree Launches Its Low-Profile Flow 2 Keyboard On Kickstarter

Forbes11-07-2025
The new Lofree Flow 2 keyboard is a styling low-profile design and is available as 68-key, 84-key or ... More 100 key layouts. This is the 100 key version with full row of function keys and a numeric keypad for spreadsheet jockeys.
A few years back, a startup called Lofree launched a new low-profile mechanical keyboard. The Flow was aimed at Mac users and had a sleek layout. Lofree was founded by Tim Chu, a designer with more than 20 years of experience in consumer electronics. When Chu's Flow keyboard hit the market, it was an instant success thanks to its stylish design with low-profile mechanical switches. The original Lofree Flow made Apple's Magic Keyboard look rather ordinary.
Now Lofree has announced the successor to Fl0w. The new Flow 2 keyboard is launching on Kickstarter and builds on many of the innovations contained in the original Flow. The new Flow 2 will be available in gray and silver finishes and with a choice of 68, 84 or 100-key layouts. There's a Flow 2 model to suit most people's preferences depending on their available desk space and whether they need a numeric keypad.
Refined Texture And Appearance
The new and improved Flow 2 now has keys with a more tactile feel. The keyboard's casing has a new and refined textured surface. It also now has interactive options and each key can be easily programmed and remapped using the VIA configurator. This is very a custom keyboard with an off-the-peg price.
Despite its slender proportions, the Lofree Flow 2 has multiple layers to make it sound and feel ... More just as the designers wanted.
The silver version of the Flow 2 is available with a choice of Surfer Linear or Void Silent Linear switches. Users can choose between a silent keyboard for use in a busy office or a keyboard with a slightly louder sound with a more tactile typing action.
The gray version of new Lofree Flow 2 has Pulse tactile switches as standard which are suitable for anyone who prefers a keyboard with a little more clack when typing. Both variations of the Flow 2 have hot-swappable, low-profile switches that can be easily changed or upgraded to give the keyboard an alternative typing style.
Milled From Single Block Of Aluminum
The Lofree Flow 2's case is crafted from a solid billet of high-grade aluminum, CNC-milled to form a unibody construction that gives the keyboard a cleaner and more minimalist look than the original Flow. The texture is created from #205 grit anodized aluminum that has a smooth surface with an ultra fine texture for durability and a modern appearance.
The Lofree Flow 2 keyboard has new and redesigned switches like the Void Silent Linear ones user ... More here. The switches are hot-swappable and also have new light diffuser to help the white LED backlights shine brightly through the shine-through keycaps.
The Flow 2's keycaps have also been upgraded and are now made from a high-purity PBT material that's Lofree says is more resistant to developing a shine that comes from long-term use. The keycaps are a double-shot construction instead of dye-sublimation printing. The legends are shine through, enabling the backlights to clearly illuminate each keycap. The profile has also been redesigned to provide a better fingertip fit for a more comfortable typing experience.
The hot-swappable switches used in the Flow 2 include high-quality diffusers that improve the transmission of light from the white LED backlights on each switch. This provides improved illumination for the shine-through keycaps, ensuring the legends can be clearly identified, even in a dark editing suite.
The switches have an improved tactile feeddback and come with actuation force set at 40g on both the linear and tactile versions. Thanks to higher precision in the manufacturing process, the switches have smaller tolerances which means less friction and smoother key travel.
On the right side of the Lofree Flow 2 keyboard there is a touch sensitive slider for controlling ... More volume and screen brightness.
New Side Touch Bar
On the right edge of the Lofree Flow 2 there's a touch slider that can be adjusted simply by running a fingertip up and down its length. The slider can be used to adjust the computer's volume level and screen brightness if using an Apple display, iMac or MacBook. It's a faster and easier than using function keys.
For connecting to the host device, the Flow 2 offers 2.4GHz RF mode, three Bluetooth channels and USB-C wired connectivity. The Flow 2 comes with a 2.4GHz wireless dongle which has a lower latency than Bluetooth, making it suitable for gaming or typing at high speeds. Lofree also includes Windows and macOS modifier keycaps.
Finally, the Flow 2 is now fully compatible with VIA firmware which means every key can be remapped and programmed with commands and macros to suit the user's workflow. The keyboard's firmware can be updated using Google's Chrome browser and a visit to the VIA web-based configurator.
The components that go up to make the new Lofree Flow 2 keyboard.
The new Lofree Flow 2 mechanical keyboard launches on Kickstarter on July 10, 2025. Retail prices range from $189 to $209 for the larger layouts. However, discounts of up to 40% are available on the Kickstarter page.
Both the Gray and Silver versions of the Lofree Flow 2 keyboard are available with 68, 84 and 100 ... More key layouts.

Nvidia move deals a major blow to AMD, Intel, and ARM

Nvidia move deals a major blow to AMD, Intel, and ARM originally appeared on TheStreet. Nvidia climbed to become the largest company on the U.S. stock market. But how can it keep growing after hitting a $4 trillion market capitalization? Every company reaches its peak at some point. Are we witnessing Nvidia's, or can it hit $5 trillion? 💵💰Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter 💰💵 That is a tricky question to answer, but the company thinks it can, and there is a lot more juice to be squeezed out of the artificial intelligence boom. The U.S. government recently reversed its export restrictions on Nvidia cards to China and assured the company that licenses will be granted. This change prompted many analysts to revamp the stock price target."China generated $17 billion in revenue for Nvidia in 2024, roughly 13% of the company's total revenue. In response to this news, we are lifting our NVDA price target to $200 from $185, and reiterating our One rating," writes veteran fund manager Chris Versace for TheStreet Pro. The company wasn't sitting down idly and waiting for this China miracle. It was making moves in Europe. Nvidia powers UK's most powerful AI supercomputer On July 17, Nvidia () revealed on its blog that the University of Bristol launched its Isambard-AI supercomputer. Nvidia Grace Hopper Superchips power it and deliver 21 exaflops of AI performance. While this supercomputer's 5,448 GH200 Superchips are impressive, they can't match the Jupiter supercomputer announced in June. Jupiter is also powered by the Grace Hopper platform, with nearly 24,000 GH200 Superchips. With its expected performance of over 90 exaflops, it is the fastest in Europe. Finding new customers for new supercomputers must reach a slowdown at some point. Nvidia knows this, and it's betting on robotics being the next big Thor is Nvidia's upcoming platform for physical AI and humanoid robotics. According to the company, it will be able to deliver up to 2070 FP4 TFLOPS of AI compute. This platform features a 14-core Arm Neoverse-V3AE 64-bit CPU and a 2560-core NVIDIA Blackwell GPU. What is often neglected in the AI GPU hype is that you need a CPU to actually run the software that will then use GPUs for calculations. Nvidia doesn't have its own CPU architecture and has to rely on ARM for this embedded (Thor) platform. The same goes for its Grace Superchips; for the CPU part, they have 72 high-performance Arm v9 cores. Nvidia tried to acquire ARM but was prevented by regulatory problems. The primary reason for the acquisition may have been licensing costs. Nvidia makes a power move, announces CUDA for RISC-V Nvidia Hardware Engineering VP Frans Sijstermans presented his "Enabling RISC-V Application Processors in NVIDIA Compute Platforms" at RISC-V Summit China, revealing that CUDA is coming to RISC-V. RISC-V is an open source instruction set architecture. This means anyone can make a CPU based on it, and the company does not have to pay for the license, although the company that makes its RISC-V compatible design can license its design. "This port will enable a RISC-V CPU to be the main application processor in a CUDA-based AI system," said RISC-V International. More Nvidia: Fund manager who predicted Nvidia stock rally reboots forecast on China Major analyst revamps Nvidia stock price target after China surprise Nvidia CEO hits Warren Buffett milestone The timing of this Nvidia move is very interesting. In an attempt to lower the country's dependence on Western-owned technology, China plans to issue guidance to boost the use of open-source RISC-V chips nationwide, reported Reuters in March. Also in March, XuanTie, part of Alibaba's DAMO Academy R&D operation, announced a C930 CPU design, reported The Register. This RISC-V-based design is available to license for system-on-chip makers. The company is marketing its CPU as something that can be used in servers, PCs, and autonomous cars. This is not the only RISC-V-based CPU available, but it is probably the one with the strongest backing, making China's push to switch to RISC-V look more credible. Nvidia is ensuring that China continues to rely on its GPUs by supporting RISC-V, which is why they are porting CUDA. However, this will also strengthen the viability of the RISC-V platform as a whole and therefore hurt x86 and ARM. The company also has experience with RISC-V; in 2016, it switched from its proprietary Falcon microprocessor, which was used as a logic controller in its GPUs, to RISC-V. This port also signals Nvidia's possible switch to RISC-V for its CPU cores. If the company can pull it off, it would bring a lot of savings from not having to pay for ARM move deals a major blow to AMD, Intel, and ARM first appeared on TheStreet on Jul 22, 2025 This story was originally reported by TheStreet on Jul 22, 2025, where it first appeared. Microsoft hack risk spreads as cybercriminals and nation-states pile in

A critical flaw in a major Microsoft document storage tool is hitting the organizations least able to defend themselves, security researchers and incident responders tell Axios. Why it matters: Schools, hospitals and government agencies are "sitting ducks" as they determine whether their servers have even been affected, one security executive said. Hackers are rushing into the breach, including groups linked to the Chinese government. Driving the news: Microsoft warned over the weekend of "active attacks" targeting a "zero-day" vulnerability in its on-premise SharePoint server. Today, the company said it has observed at least three China-based hacking groups, including two tied to the government, exploiting the vulnerability since as early as July 7. Charles Carmakal, CTO at Google's Mandiant, added that multiple threat groups are also now exploiting the bug. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency confirmed that attackers could exploit the bug to gain access to sensitive files or execute code remotely. At least one estimate puts the number of already compromised organizations near 100. The Washington Post reports that victims include state and federal agencies, universities, an energy company, and an Asian telecommunications firm. "It's not one specific group that is going to be doing the hacking of this anymore," Michael Sikorski, CTO at Palo Alto Networks' Unit 42 threat intelligence team, told Axios. "Everybody's getting on the train." The big picture: Security teams will likely spend weeks, even months, unpacking the full scope of the breach and what damage is still to come. Researchers say the hackers have been stealing machine keys from targeted entities, which will allow them to keep breaking into the organizations even after they patch the SharePoint issue. "Because the attack blends in with just normal, legitimate activity, it's quite hard to detect what's unusual and what's atypical," Kayne McGladrey, a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, told Axios. Zoom in: Sikorski said Unit 42 is actively working with Microsoft to notify affected entities, but many victims likely still don't know they've been hit. "For those organizations that don't have a threat detection or red team capability built in, they are undoubtedly going to be at a longer time of risk for this because they just don't have the visibility," McGladrey said. Between the lines: The flaw mostly threatens legacy SharePoint systems still used by smaller public-sector entities and critical-infrastructure operators. Those organizations are unlikely to have the resources to quickly spin up their own investigations and response teams, Sikorski said. "That's the scary part," Sikorski said. "Not only are they sitting ducks, but they don't have the capability to deal with it." The intrigue: While Microsoft released a patch Monday to fix the issue in all affected versions of SharePoint, even patched systems may not be fully safe if attackers already gained entry, stole machine keys or installed new backdoors. What's next: Security experts say the SharePoint hacking activity will likely unfold in waves. Opportunistic hackers, such as cybercriminal gangs, will race to exploit exposed servers, aiming to steal login credentials, plant backdoors and deploy ransomware. Meanwhile, stealthier groups, including nation-state actors, will burrow into high-value organizations for the long haul, quietly stealing sensitive data and setting up persistent access that could go undetected for months.
