KTMB denies closure orders for BNM, KL stations ahead of rally
PETALING JAYA : Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has denied issuing any orders for the closure of its Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Kuala Lumpur stations following a notice making the rounds on social media.
When a netizen asked about the notice in the comment section of one of KTMB's Facebook posts, the firm said there had been no official announcement from the management.
'Updates will be shared from time to time through KTMB's official media channels,' the KTMB Facebook admin replied.
The notice said that the BNM and Kuala Lumpur KTM stations would be closed from 9am to 5pm tomorrow.
'The KTM train will not stop at these stations during the closure period,' the notice said.
A mass rally organised by Perikatan Nasional is expected to take place in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow, to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Participants will gather at Masjid Negara, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru and the Sogo shopping complex before marching to Dataran Merdeka.
Organisers expect up to 300,000 participants, although a similar protest in Shah Alam earlier this month drew just over 300 people.
Police have advised rallygoers to obey the law and assemble peacefully.
Yesterday, acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said no roads would be closed in the capital city ahead of the 'Turun Anwar' rally.

Umno to investigate whether its members joined Turun Anwar rally

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Umno will look into allegations that some party members took part in the Turun Anwar rally in Kuala Lumpur today, says Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan. He said the party would wait for a full report before taking action. 'I will need to review these allegations, and the Umno headquarters will look into it and decide on them,' Sinar Harian reported him as saying at the Bagan Serai delegates' meeting in Perak today. Ahmad, who is deputy works minister, said the government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim remains stable with a sizeable majority in Parliament. 'People may question us if our support goes as low as 113 seats. But we have 153. Even if 10 people go, we still have 143. So why do we need to take down the prime minister? He has strong support and the economy is developing well,' he said. (A total of 112 seats is enough for a simple majority in the 222-member Dewan Rakyat). Ahmad said the rally today had tarnished Malaysia's international image, making it seem as if the country is in turmoil. The Turun Anwar rally was attended by about 18,000 people, according to a police estimate, while the rally organisers, PAS Youth, claimed there were over 200,000 participants.

Govt will take follow-up action on royal addendum, says Zahid
A royal addendum to a pardons board decision on Najib Razak's sentence is currently the subject of a case before the Federal Court. PETALING JAYA : The government will follow-up on a royal order allowing former prime minister Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest, says deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Efforts to act on the matter according to legal procedures will be made as fast as possible, 'but it depends heavily on the powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which we must all respect,' he told Kangar Umno members at their delegates meeting today in Perlis. He said he has discussed the matter in detail with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, according to a Harian Metro report. Zahid said the legal process would also involve the pardons board, as the king presides over board meetings. Najib is serving a 12-year jail sentence in Kajang prison after being convicted in 2022 of misappropriating RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd. He later applied for a pardon, with the Federal Territories Pardons Board reducing his prison sentence from 12 years to six, and a RM210 million fine to RM50 million. The former prime minister later took the government to court for action to reveal the existence of a royal addendum to the pardons board decision, and to enforce the order allowing him to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest. The royal addendum is now the subject of an appeal by the government which is being heard by the Federal Court.
