SSE Airtricity First Division: Kerry 0 Dundalk 4 (Groome 20', Kenny 60', Ward 90+3', Paraschiv 90+4')
Dundalk remain four points clear at the top of the First Division after defeating Kerry FC at Mounthawk Park and fully deserved their win. However, the scoreline probably flattered the league leaders. Dundalk deserved their 2-0 lead heading into added time but for the second week in a row, Kerry conceded two late goals to compound a poor seven says for Colin Healy and his struggling Kerry side.
Dundalk created the first opening in the fourth minute when Daryl Horgans' snap shot just missed the target. Kerry countered as Sean McGrath ran on to a rebound from a Sean O'Connell effort that was blocked but Enda Minogue was down quickly to smother the shot.
Dundalk took the lead in the 20th minute when a misplaced pass out of defence by Alex Dunne was intercepted by Harry Groome who picked his spot and unleashed a terrific shot that dipped under the crossbar despite efforts of keeper Tim –Oliver Hiemer.
Dundalk almost doubled their lead in the 28th minute when Eoin Kenny skinned his marker down the right but Horgan failed to make contact in the six yard box.
Niall Brookwell then saved the home side when he cleared an Arubi shot off the line after another dangerous Kenny cross. Kerry finished the half strongly and could have equalised in the 40th minute when a cross from Alex Dunne was met in the box by Kennedy Amechi with his back to goal but his cheeky bicycle kick was parried by Dundalk keeper Minogue and collected. But Kerry had shown that they were able to trouble the league leaders defence who retired 1-0 in front at the interval.
Kerry began the second half brightly and McGrath was causing Dundalk problems through the middle in the absence of Ronan Teahan. McGrath was fouled in a central position and when Oran Crowe floated in the resultant free kick, Chris McQueen headed down but Amechi's effort was straight at the keeper.
Dundalk doubled their lead on the hour when another defensive error saw Kevin Williams head the ball into the path of Dean Ebbe who found Eoin Kenny raiding on the right side and he beat Hiemer from just inside the box, at his near post.
McQueen headed over from a Crowe corner in the 67th minute as Kerry tried valiantly to get a goal back. Dundalk wrapped the points with two late goals from a Keith Ward free kick that should have been saved and a tiring home side was caught out at the back again, in the final move of the game, when Andy Paraschiv fired home from inside the box to secure the points.

Christy O'Connor: Kilkenny finally end search for a settled midfield pairing

When Cian Kenny appeared on the Kilkenny People Sport podcast last September, much of the discussion centred around his disappointment at Kilkenny's defeat to Clare in the All-Ireland semi-final. 'That game still haunts us,' said Kenny. 'It's a game that I'd say will live with us for the rest of our lives.' Kenny was still one of the few Kilkenny players who performed well that afternoon. He was Kilkenny's most consistent player in the 2024 championship. When the All-Star team was announced in October, Kenny was one the tiny handful of players deemed unlucky not to win an award. Tyrone set to lose star to Premier League for Minor final

The 2025 Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor football final is set to take place this Sunday as Tyrone line out against Kerry at Cedrel St. Conleth's Park in Newbridge. Both sides are looking to end All-Ireland droughts at minor level, with Tyrone having the significantly longer one at 15 years, last winning in 2010 in a final against Cork. Meanwhile Kerry haven't won since 2018, the last of their famous streak of five minor titles in-a-row. A win for Tyrone will also continue their stellar form at underage level, having won three of the last four U20 All-Ireland titles, however it looks like they'll be missing a vital player for the final this Sunday. Joel Kerr of Tyrone in action against Cavan Pic: Oliver McVeigh/Sportsfile Joel Kerr is one of the most promising athletes in Northern Ireland right now. As well as being a star for this Tyrone minor team, Kerr has also already penned a professional contract with Premier League side West Ham United. Kerr is a left winger who has up until this month played for Glentoran as well as the Northern Ireland U16s and U17s. He signed a deal to join West Ham several months ago on a three-year deal which was set to commenced on July 1. This is where the issue has arose from. As the All-Ireland Minor final is taking place on July 6 West Ham have supposedly stopped Kerr from playing in the match. Jason Spelman of Republic of Ireland vies with Joel Kerr of Northern Ireland during the U16 Victory Shield Pic:Kerr has played a crucial role in Tyrone's run to the final, including scoring two points in the quarter-final win over Cork as well as a goal in the semis against Roscommon. Tyrone manager Gerard Donnelly is still hopeful of bring Kerr back into the fold as discussions are ongoing between Tyrone and West Ham about releasing the youngster for the final, but at this time it looks unlikely to come through. Still only 16, Kerr is also eligible to play minor again next year, but it looks like he won't be a part of that panel when it comes around. This story speaks to the immense ability of Joel Kerr and perhaps he's a name we'll become very familiar with in the near future.
