Patriots' Coach Says Defense Will Be ‘Violent' This Season
The New England Patriots' coaching staff has a new vision for what they want their defensive identity to be, following the offseason upgrades of multiple key positions of need.

According to Karen Guregian of Mass Live, Patriots' head coach Mike Vrabel and his staff want their defense to play with "violence."
"We are going to make sure on tape, day in and day out, that people see our violence,' Safeties coach Scott Booker said. 'And it's not just in tackling... it's in everything you do.'

New England allowed the eighth most points (24.5ppg) last season and was in the bottom third of the league in total yards allowed (343.4ypg).
It is clear that the defense struggled last season, but star defensive tackle Christian Barmore and veteran safety Jabrill Peppers combined to play in just 10 games in 2024. The return of those two, and new additions like Milton Williams, Carlton Davis III, Robert Spillane, and K'Lavon Chaisson, should offer a massive boost to the unit.

The new coaching staff is attempting to effect an immediate improvement and change in mentality by introducing these new faces and a new message.
Booker says that, although they want to play with violence, they are still coaching the team on the fundamentals of how to do that without being flagged.
"That's our charge as coaches, to make sure guys understand the rules and to use them to our advantage,' Booker said. 'So we're constantly teaching them the rules, teaching them where to legally be able to hit guys both re-routing, and tackling."
It seems clear that Vrabel, Booker, and the other defensive coaches are trying to imprint a new mentality early in the offseason, in hopes it will pay off by September when the regular season rolls around.

Dodgers' Dave Roberts Gives Injury Update on Roki Sasaki
Dodgers' Dave Roberts Gives Injury Update on Roki Sasaki originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Los Angeles Dodgers rookie phenom Roki Sasaki has been on the injured list since early May with a right shoulder impingement, and manager Dave Roberts is providing a more positive update on Sasaki's condition compared to the one he gave nearly three weeks ago. Advertisement "He's just not feeling that he can kind of ramp it up, so I gather that we're trying to hold the baseball a little bit until he feels like we can get going again," Roberts said last month. According to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, Roberts has a bit more encouraging outlook on Sasaki's condition. Roberts said that Sasaki is "feeling really good," which is a good sign that the starting pitcher could be making progress in his recovery. Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki (11) looks on in the dougout during the third inning of the game against the Athletics at Dodger Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Sasaki's MLB debut this season has been a rollercoaster, flashing elite strikeout capability coupled with control issues. He went 1-1 in his eight starts, pitching 34.1 innings with 24 strikeouts, 22 walks, and a 4.72 ERA. Sasaki's struggles adjusting to MLB hitting have only been set back even farther because of the shoulder injury. Advertisement Like many, Joe Mistretta of ClutchPoints is exceptionally high on the pitcher, which makes a full recovery for Sasaki that much more critical to the top team in the National League. "Anyone who has watched Sasaki pitch understands how high his ceiling is," Mistretta said. "The right-handed pitcher could become a Cy Young candidate if he develops consistency at the big league level." Sure, the up-and-down starting pitching for Los Angeles has been a concern this season, but the Dodgers have no reason to rush Sasaki back. He got hurt on May 13 and could be activated by the All-Star break, although it does not seem that promising. Roberts has yet to provide a return date. Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow Gets Another Concerning Injury Update
Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow Gets Another Concerning Injury Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's incredible that the Los Angeles Dodgers continue to win games in such a consistent manner. At 55-32 and 8-2 over their last 10, the Dodgers continue to show why they're arguably the best team in baseball. All they've done is win over much of the past decade, and that's without factoring in the many injuries that they've dealt with. Advertisement One can only wonder if the Dodgers need some of the players they've acquired who have injuries. One of them is Tyler Glasnow, who simply hasn't been on the mound for Los Angeles when it needs him most over the past year and a half. Glasnow is again injured, having not thrown in a big league game since April 27. He's currently on a rehab assignment in Oklahoma City, but according to a report from Jack Harris, there are some worries about when he might return to the big league level. Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow (31) comes off the field after he pitches against the Texas Rangers during the first inning at Globe Life Miron-Imagn Images 'Dave Roberts said the report from OKC last night was that Tyler Glasnow's stuff looked fine, but that he wasn't efficient enough. They were hoping to get him into the fourth, but he only managed 2.1 IP. That means he'll likely need at least two more rehab outings before returning,' he wrote. Advertisement Ideally, the Dodgers will get Glasnow back before the end of the campaign. It's tough to continue losing arms the way they have, but again, all the Dodgers have done since is win. However, when things get tough in the postseason, not having a player of Glasnow's caliber is a bit difficult. He's struggled for parts of his Dodgers career, allowing nine earned runs in 18.0 innings for them this campaign, but for much of his career, he's been as dominant as they get around baseball when he's healthy. Celtics Owner Reminds Knicks Fans Who's Boss With Simple Comment
Celtics Owner Reminds Knicks Fans Who's Boss With Simple Comment originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For the New York Knicks, chasing the elusive championship has been a decades-long rollercoaster – one that's tested even the most loyal fans' patience. Year after year, they've come close enough to keep hope alive but never enough to silence the critics. Advertisement And while Knicks fans are used to the usual jabs from rival fanbases, this time the dig hit a little differently. Instead of some trash talk on social media, it was actually a team owner who decided to twist the knife and, it's not something Knicks fans will be thrilled to hear. The man in question here is Wyc Grousbeck, owner of the Boston Celtics. In a video posted on X, Grousbeck appeared to walk onto a stage for a panel discussion. While on his way to the seat, Grousbeck said, "Nice playoff win, Knicks fans, but here's what a ring looks like." It's not exactly clear what sparked Grousbeck's comment maybe he was clapping back at some fans heckling him, or maybe it just slipped out during a heated debate. Advertisement Either way, it's not every day you see an NBA team owner taking shots at another fanbase like that. New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby (8) drives to the basket between Detroit Pistons forward Ausar Thompson (9) and forward Tim Hardaway Jr. (8) during the second quarter of game four of first round for the 2025 NBA Playoffs at Little Caesars Reginek-Imagn Images The biggest deal in North American sports history went down when the Boston Celtics were sold for a massive $6.1 billion. Bill Chisholm, managing partner at Symphony Technology Group and a lifelong Celtics fan, agreed to buy the team from Wyc Grousbeck's group, topping the $6.05 billion sale of the Washington Commanders back in 2023. Grousbeck's group had originally bought the Celtics for just $360 million in 2002 and he will remain the Celtics owner through the 2027-28 season.
