Devin Booker in talks with Phoenix Suns on $150 million extension after career-best assist season

(Image Source - Getty Images) The Phoenix Suns aren't planning to reset, and Devin Booker is on the same page. Coming off a season where he averaged a career-high 7.1 assists and 25.6 points per game, this four-time All-Star is now at the center of a significant negotiation. Phoenix is in deep discussions for a two-year, $150 million max extension to keep their franchise guard in place. Trading Kevin Durant for Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks signals a shift in Phoenix Suns roster strategy Devin Booker, a standout for the Phoenix Suns, was selected 13th overall in the 2015 draft and has spent his entire decade in the NBA playing in the desert. He has participated in 673 games, averaging 24.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game. During the recently wrapped up 2024–25 season, he raised his performance, averaging 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and a career-high 7.1 assists in 75 games. The Suns, riding the ups and downs since the 2021 Finals, took a nosedive this season with a 36–46 record, leading to their first playoff miss since that Finals run. Nevertheless, Phoenix is committed to continuity, reportedly working to secure Booker through 2027 with a two-year, $150 million extension—a max deal by any definition. The offseason for Phoenix has been quite eventful: they sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo 10 pick (which turned into Khaman Maluach), and five second-round picks. At the same time, Booker has stepped up as a sort of leader, playing a key role in the coaching search that brought in Jordan Ott and sharing his thoughts on the Durant trade. The Suns don't have much draft capital, so a complete rebuild isn't really an option. This makes keeping their all-time leading scorer a top priority, especially after he broke Walter Davis's franchise record of 16,452 points on February 3, 2025. Booker's strong presence shows he's more than just numbers; he's the voice and the driving force behind Phoenix's identity. Devin Booker, who is now 28, is likely at the peak of his career, averaging a personal best in assists while still scoring and being efficient. The suggested contract would give him $75 million each year—making him the highest-paid player in NBA history on an annual basis. When compared to deals like Jaylen Brown's, it seems like a long-term investment in his ongoing top-tier performance. However, Suns fans argue that keeping your franchise player is way more important than taking risks on future draft picks or free agents. Booker calls Trump megabill a ‘moral obscenity'

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) said Monday that President Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' is a 'moral obscenity.' 'I think it's a moral obscenity, and it is violence in the sense of what it will do to many families by denying them health care when they're sick, by denying them food when their children are hungry, denying our seniors critical care in their latter years, denying the disabled the kind of support that they need,' Booker said on MSNBC's 'Deadline: White House.' Democrats have vehemently opposed the 'big, beautiful bill' as it has made its way through Congress, with Booker saying in a post on the social platform X Monday that members of his party in the upper chamber were 'standing up right now for our constituents who will lose their health care, who will face rising energy costs, and who will lose access to SNAP benefits.' 'We have to do whatever we can to stop the 'Big Beautiful Bill,' Booker continued in his post. House moderate Republicans and hard-line conservatives have recently expressed rising opposition to the Senate's version of the 'big, beautiful bill' only days before they are set to consider the legislation. 'This bill is a moral obscenity, and I'm stunned that only a few senators on their side of the aisle have even been willing to speak to the impact it will have on their states, their constituents,' Booker said Monday. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Monday that the 'ONE GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL, is moving along nicely!' 'MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!' the president added, using his trademark phrase.

Patriots' Coach Says Defense Will Be ‘Violent' This Season

Patriots' Coach Says Defense Will Be 'Violent' This Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New England Patriots' coaching staff has a new vision for what they want their defensive identity to be, following the offseason upgrades of multiple key positions of need. Advertisement According to Karen Guregian of Mass Live, Patriots' head coach Mike Vrabel and his staff want their defense to play with "violence." "We are going to make sure on tape, day in and day out, that people see our violence,' Safeties coach Scott Booker said. 'And it's not just in tackling... it's in everything you do.' Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie (6) is hit by New England Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai (48) in the third quarter during an International Series game at Deutsche Bank Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images New England allowed the eighth most points (24.5ppg) last season and was in the bottom third of the league in total yards allowed (343.4ypg). It is clear that the defense struggled last season, but star defensive tackle Christian Barmore and veteran safety Jabrill Peppers combined to play in just 10 games in 2024. The return of those two, and new additions like Milton Williams, Carlton Davis III, Robert Spillane, and K'Lavon Chaisson, should offer a massive boost to the unit. Advertisement The new coaching staff is attempting to effect an immediate improvement and change in mentality by introducing these new faces and a new message. Booker says that, although they want to play with violence, they are still coaching the team on the fundamentals of how to do that without being flagged. "That's our charge as coaches, to make sure guys understand the rules and to use them to our advantage,' Booker said. 'So we're constantly teaching them the rules, teaching them where to legally be able to hit guys both re-routing, and tackling." It seems clear that Vrabel, Booker, and the other defensive coaches are trying to imprint a new mentality early in the offseason, in hopes it will pay off by September when the regular season rolls around.
