Amid plot demand surge, UP Housing Board fast-tracks major projects in Ayodhya
The move is part of a broader development plan aimed at improving living standards and easing congestion in the old city. The Board has asked the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) to expedite the acquisition of 1,400 acres for various housing projects, they said.
Among them is the Vasisth Kunj phase-2 which will come up on the Ayodhya-Basti road. Online applications for phase-one of the project are already over. Now, the Board wants to expedite the second phase of the project for which land has to be acquired, officials added.
Vasisth Kunj is a mega housing project in Ayodhya, which includes both residential and commercial plots. The project is coming up on NH -27 in Firozpur Uparhar. The Board has also asked ADA to submit a detailed report of 27 projects, including Sita Rasoi.
P Guru Prasad, principal secretary, housing and urban planning, has asked ADA to expedite the Green Field Township project. This mega township project proposed in 1,800 acres is considered to be one of the most ambitious projects of the state government in Ayodhya.
The Housing and Development Board has also decided to help those hoteliers who are not able to purchase land directly from farmers for their projects. Prasad has directed ADA to them in acquiring land from farmers, officials said.
The temple town is set for 873 square-km expansion under phase-2 of the Ayodhya Master Plan- 2031 with the inclusion of 343 villages from Ayodhya, Basti and Gonda districts.
According to ADA, the phase-2 of the Master Plan 2031 covers 873 square km, including Ayodhya Nagar Nigam, Bhadarsa Nagar Panchayat and Nawabganj Nagar Palika Parishad (Gonda), along with 154 villages from Ayodhya, 126 from Basti, and 63 from Gonda.
According to Ashwini Pandey, vice-chairman of ADA, the plan has been prepared by taking into account the estimated population of Ayodhya in 2031 which is likely to be 14 lakh.

Agriculture Dept. exploring option to supply coconut oil at lower rates through Supplyco: Minister
With coconut oil prices going through the roof, the Agriculture Department is planning to supply it at lower rates through the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) during Onam, Agriculture Minister P. Prasad said. The department, along with the Kerala State Co-operative Apex Federation of Coconut Farmers Ltd (Kerafed), which markets the Kera brand coconut oil, is exploring options to supply it at affordable rates to the weaker sections of the society during the upcoming festival season, Mr. Prasad said, addressing a press conference here. The Agriculture Department is in talks with Supplyco in this regard, he said. Kerafed has already kicked off measures for coconut procurement at ₹1 higher than the market rates from farmer, Mr. Prasad said. This will serve to ensure the adequate supply of good quality coconut oil in the State, he said. The government decided to step in with a procurement plan, given the need to prevent the sale of adulterated coconut oil in the current situation, the Minister said.

Agriculture department to operate 2,000 Onam markets this year
The Agriculture department and agencies under it will operate 2,000 Onam markets from September 1 to 4, Agriculture Minister P. Prasad said here on Saturday. As many as 1,076 markets will be directly run by the department while the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council Keralam (VFPCK), and the Kerala State Horticultural Products Development Corporation (Horticorp) will run 160 and 764 markets each. The government agencies will procure vegetables and fruits from farmers at 10% higher cost and sell it at 30% discount to the public. This is meant to ensure a fair price to farmers while ensuring affordable prices to the public, Mr. Prasad said. Vegetables cultivated using good agricultural practices (GAP) and organic methods will be procured at 20% higher cost and sold at 10% discount. The State government has decided to spend ₹13 crore on market intervention during Onam, the Minister said. Action plan The Agriculture department is also devising action plan for the procurement of vegetables produced in the State. Horticorp has already launched measures for procuring potato and shallots from other States, he said. 'The government is making arrangements with farmer producer organisations (FPO) and similar agencies in other States, bypassing wholesale dealers, to ensure a better price for us,' he said.

(Representational image) After facing losses for many years, this is the highest profit ever recorded by the Board. Until 31 March, 2024, HPSEBL had accumulated losses amounting to Rs. 3,742 crore. However, the present state government, through its reforms, transparent administrative policies and financial discipline helped the Board recover from losses and turn profitable. With the improved financial condition of the Board, the state government has also ensured financial benefits for employees. For the financial year 2024-25, an amount of Rs. 368.89 crore has been approved for gratuity, medical reimbursement, revised pension arrears and leave encashment a significant increase from Rs. 87.56 crore in the previous year. Out of this, Rs. 187.86 crore have already been disbursed by 31 July, 2025. This reflects the sensitivity and commitment of the state government to employee welfare.
