Kylian Mbappé gave Real Madrid an electric start in the El Clásico on Sunday, striking two quickfire goals in the opening 14 minutes.
The Frenchman took just four minutes to open the scoring from the spot before adding a second minute later.
Not only could those goals prove decisive in the LaLiga title race, but they have also given Mbappé the edge over Robert Lewandowski in LaLiga's top scorer race.

Franco Mastantuono labels current Real Madrid as an ‘idol'

Real Madrid are on course to unveil their fourth signing of the summer transfer window in Franco Mastantuono. Los Blancos have focused on defence as part of Xabi Alonso's opening weeks in charge, either side of the FIFA Club World Cup, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Deean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras all arriving. However, Alonso was also quick off the mark to secure the highly rated Mastantuono from River Plate, but the deal has been delayed. An agreement was reached over a six-year contract on June 13, but River Plate requested he remain with them for the Club World Cup, and current transfer rule prevented him from signing for Real Madrid until his 18th birthday. The Argentina international comes of age on August 14 where he can officially train as a Real Madrid player and begin life in under Alonso. However, with the club keen to ensure his quick adaptation to life in the Spanish capital, Mastantuono has now landed in Spain for a two-week settling in period. Mastantuono ready for Real Madrid challenge Speaking ahead of his flight from Buenos Aires, Mastantuono spoke of his excitement, and the chance to replicate Los Blancos icon Alfredo Di Stefano. (Photo by) 'I'm very happy. I've been waiting for this day for a long time. I'm very happy to be traveling back in Madrid,' as per Marca. 'Di Stefano was great player, a football legend. I said I want to follow in his footsteps, by playing for River Plate and then going to Real Madrid. For me, it's great to be able to follow that path and hopefully I can do the same as him.' Mastantuono wore the No.30 shirt at River Plate, and some predictions have placed him as No.16 in Madrid – if Endrick Felipe leaves on loan – and he played down claims of wanting the No.10 over Kylian Mbappe. 'I would like to [wear No.10], but if he [Mbappe] takes it, it's his right, he's an idol,'

Iago Aspas sets fresh European goal for Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo captain Iago Aspas has a clear message for his teammates ahead of their return to European action this season. Aspas netted 10 La Liga goals, one behind top scorer Borja Iglesias, as the Galicians finished seventh in the final rankings. With eighth place going to the UEFA Conference League and Rayo Vallecano, Celta landed in the Europa League spots, with a direct place in the league phase. Aspas will lead them into battle once again, in their first appearance on the continental stage since reaching the Europa League semi finals in 2017, before losing out to Manchester United. The veteran striker scored five European goals in that run and 2025/26 is expected to be his final season at the club. The 38-year-old has already racked up the club record for most La Liga goals scored and most goals scored overall on 214 and 163 respectively. He is also within 10 games over overtaking club legend Manolo as their highest-ever appearance maker, which should be achieved before the end of 2025. Iago Aspas' final mission at Celta Vigo Aspas' experience will be vital moving forward and he is clear on what the objective is for Claudio Giraldez's team. 'We're preparing for a tough and difficult season, another year together,' as reported by Marca on his August 1 birthday. 'May the good vibe that brought us to Europe last year continue for another season, and let's go for it.' Celta have endured a mixed run of form so far in preseason with defeats to Famalicao and Sporting Braga before securing wins over Nacional and and Swiss side Grasshoppers. Giraldez's charges will now take on Vitória de Guimarães and Wolves, before heading back to Spain, for the start of the La Liga season. Their domestic season kicks off at home to Getafe on August 17 with the all important Europa League draw scheduled for August 29.

Real Madrid summer signing set for a starting role ahead of club captain

Real Madrid roped in Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool back in June, even paying a small compensation fee to Liverpool instead of waiting for his contract to expire so that he can play at the FIFA Club World Cup. Now, with Dani Carvajal having recovered from his ACL injury and back to full fitness, Real Madrid have a competition brewing in the right-back position heading into the new season. Trent to start, Carvajal will compete Now, according to AS, Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to start the season in the starting XI for Real Madrid under manager Xabi Alonso. But how the situation will evolve over the coming months remains uncertain as Dani Carvajal is ready to challenge for his place. The coaching staff has accepted that rotations will be necessary, but eventually, one will play more. At present, no one inside the club dares to predict who will rack up more minutes over the season. Dani Carvajal has recovered from his ACL injury. (Photo by) In the short term, Trent appears to have the edge, but one can never count against Carvajal's experience, quality, and leadership. After all, before his injury, the Real Madrid captain was performing at an elite level. The two players offer contrasting profiles. Carvajal is clearly the stronger defender, with better positioning and one-on-one ability in attack. Yet the coaching staff greatly appreciate the technical qualities that Trent brings to transitions. In Alonso's system, full-backs are expected to function like midfielders – a role that suits Trent more naturally than Carvajal. His contribution to build-up play is highly valued. So, heading into the new season, Trent is set to feature as the starting right-back in Alonso's team, but Carvajal will be pushing hard to reclaim his spot.
