Turkey Denies Claims Of Turkish Firm's Involvement In Maintenance Of Air India 171 Aircraft

Claims were made on social media that Turkish Technic was involved in the maintenance of the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner which crashed in Ahmedabad this week.
The Turkish government has denied the involvement of Turkish Technic – the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) arm of Turkish Airlines – in the maintenance of the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner that crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The communication wing of the government has said that the claim that Turkish Technic maintained the AI-171 aircraft that crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in the deaths of 241 people on board, 'is false" and 'constitutes disinformation aimed at manipulating public opinion" on India-Turkey relations.
Turkey On AI-171 Maintenance Claims
The clarification came a day after the crash, following claims by some social media handles that Turkey was involved in the maintenance of the crashed aircraft. The handles also cited the Air India–Turkish Technic deal signed in February 2025 to claim that the Boeing 787-8 aircraft was a part of the agreement for maintenance.
However, the Turkish government has refuted the claims and said that the deal was 'exclusively for B777-type wide-body aircraft".
'The claim that 'the maintenance of the Boeing 787-8 passenger aircraft was carried out by Turkish Technic' following the crash of an Air India passenger aircraft during take-off is false. The claim that the crashed aircraft was maintained by Turkish Technic constitutes disinformation aimed at manipulating public opinion regarding Türkiye-India relations," the Turkish government said on June 13 on X.
'Under the agreements made between Air India and Turkish Technic in 2024 and 2025, maintenance services are provided exclusively for B777-type wide-body aircraft. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner involved in the accident does not fall within the scope of this agreement. To date, Turkish Technic has not conducted maintenance on any Air India aircraft of this type," it added.
What Was Air India-Turkish Technic Deal 2025?
However, as per a Times of India report on June 1, Turkish Technic currently conducts heavy maintenance for a portion of Air India's Boeing 777 and 787 fleet.
Air India CEO Campbell Wilson earlier announced the airline's plans to reduce its reliance on Turkish Technic for the maintenance of its wide-body aircraft and MRO facilities.
As per Hürriyet Daily News, the Air India-Turkish Technic deal 2025 would provide extensive component services such as component pooling, repair, overhaul, modification and logistics services for Air India's 190 Boeing 737-8 and 737-10 aircraft.
'We are happy to further strengthen our partnership with Air India Express through a new agreement. The continuation of our cooperation is a testament to our reliability in component support, supply, and solution services," the newspaper quoted Mikail Akbulut, the CEO of Turkish Technic, as saying earlier.

Danger ahead? Paytm boss Vijay Shekhar Sharma shares AI-powered vedic astrology warning on air travel

Amid a spate of aviation mishaps , Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma has turned to Vedic astrology—powered by AI—for insight into the risks associated with air travel. Taking to social media platform X, Sharma shared a screenshot of an astrological analysis generated by AI. According to the post, the period from now until November 2025 is marked as a "Danger Zone" due to certain planetary alignments. 'What's Happening: Rahu in Pisces, Saturn Retrograde, Mars transits Outcome: Risky,' the analysis read. Live Events — vijayshekhar (@vijayshekhar) The phase from November 2025 to March 2026 is described as a "Transition" period, during which Rahu shifts to Aquarius and Saturn goes direct—potentially bringing gradual improvement. Post March 2026, the analysis forecasts a "Safer Phase" as there are "no major malefic influences." Explaining the underlying factors, the post stated: 'Rahu in Pisces (Meena) – until Nov 2025. Why it's important: Rahu rules illusion, machinery, and technology. In Pisces—the sign of oceans, skies, and dissolution—it creates confusion in water and air travel.' The potential effects include foggy decisions, technical failures, and hidden threats such as engine issues and miscommunication. The post sparked mixed reactions online. One X user commented, 'Interesting—let's see if those astrological trends align with real-world aviation shifts.' Another sarcastically quipped, '100 out of 99 of your tweets aren't relevant to Paytm.' Ironically, Sharma's post came on the same day as a tragic crash in Bangladesh, where at least 19 people were killed after a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into a school. In another devastating incident last month, 260 people died in India when an Air India aircraft crashed into a medical college hostel in Ahmedabad. A string of other engine failures and aviation-related scares in recent weeks has only deepened public anxiety around air travel—making Sharma's astrological warning all the more timely, whether you believe in the stars or not.

‘Not going to rush': Ahead of Trump's tariff deadline, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent shares update; says ‘more concerned about…'

The US will not fast-track trade deals simply to meet deadlines, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said, signalling that the Trump administration remains focused on securing high-quality agreements even as a key tariff deadline approaches. In an interview with CNBC, Bessent stated, 'The Trump administration is more concerned with the quality of trade agreements rather than their timing. We're not going to rush for the sake of doing deals.' The remarks come ahead of the August 1 deadline, when tariffs on several US trade partners could kick in if talks fail to yield progress, according to an ET report. While describing the ongoing negotiations as 'moving along,' Bessent warned that failure to reach agreements could escalate trade tensions. 'If we boomerang on August 1 tariffs, higher tariffs could put more pressure on countries,' he said. Allies under pressure as US sticks to its terms Bessent pointed to growing engagement from the European Union, noting, 'They've become more engaged,' and said he expects Brussels may aim to speed up negotiations. 'I imagine they would want to negotiate faster,' he added. On Japan, Bessent clarified that Washington's focus remains firmly on securing the best outcomes for the US, not adapting to domestic political calendars in partner countries. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo 'Our priorities are not internal government but best deals for U.S.,' he said. Despite the approaching deadline, Bessent expressed confidence in the ongoing discussions. 'Trade is in a good place,' he said. Russia tariffs tied to political goals Touching on Russia, Bessent acknowledged that tariff measures can go beyond trade. 'Tariffs can be a means to political ends,' he said, referring to current conversations around sanctions. He also hinted at a possible joint strategy with allies, saying, 'Would urge Europe to follow us if we implement secondary tariffs,' without naming affected sectors or timelines. China discussions may restart, focus on overcapacity and oil On China, Bessent said talks could resume 'in the near future,' but flagged overcapacity as the primary concern. 'The elephant in the room with China is overcapacity,' he said, mentioning steel and solar as key pressure points. He also pointed to two new areas of concern that may enter future negotiations—Beijing's trade ties with Russia and its stance on Iranian oil. 'Could start talking about Iranian oil,' Bessent said, while adding that the US 'could discuss [China's] trade with Russia' as part of broader diplomatic talks.
