DAMASCUS: Three police officers were killed and two other people wounded when a car bomb exploded near a police station in eastern Syria on Sunday, state news agency SANA reported.
"Three police officers were martyred and two others were injured in an explosion that occurred today near the police station in the city of Al-Mayadeen in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor," SANA reported.
"At exactly 07:13 pm (1603 GMT) today, an explosion occurred near the Al-Mayadeen police station," Khalil Abdulmoneim al-Ayoub, director of Al-Mayadeen city, said in the report.
"Initial investigations and an inspection of the site revealed that it was caused by a car bomb, resulting in the deaths of three members of the General Security and a number of injuries," he said.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said five people had been killed in the blast, including four police officers.
"Two civilians, including a girl, were injured," it said.
According to the war monitor, the explosion coincided with the launch of a security campaign in Al-Mayadeen by the General Security, the country's new police force.

The raid was conducted based on his involvement in a terror-related case, in the presence of a Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) from Awantipora, along with an executive magistrate. It is pertinent to mention here that the said terrorist associate is under judicial custody presently lodged in the District Jail Pulwama. The Awantipora police remain committed to maintaining peace and security in the police district. Besides is aimed at to take strict /lawfull action against the miscreants involved in unlawful activities. Such raids shall continue till terrorism is eradicated from the grassroots level to create a peaceful atmosphere in the police district of Awantipora, it added. (ANI)

ANI 29 Jun 2025, 23:03 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): A 23-year-old labourer from Uttar Pradesh was found hanging at Masoodpur village near Vasant Kunj North police station area in Delhi, police said on Sunday. According to the police, a PCR call was received on Saturday regarding the suicide of a 23-year-old man at Masoodpur Village. The body of the deceased was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The deceased was identified as Uday Bhan, a resident of Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, who had arrived in Delhi around 45-50 days ago with his elder brother Hetram. Both were employed as labourers at the Delhi Metro construction site, Masoodpur. The deceased worked the night shift, while his brother worked the day shift, police said. On Saturday, the elder brother noticed through the front window that his brother had hanged himself from the ceiling fan using a muffler-type cloth. The post-mortem was conducted at the Safdarjung Hospital mortuary, and the body was subsequently handed over to the relatives. No foul play was reported or noticed so far. Further investigation is underway. (ANI)

ANI 29 Jun 2025, 16:51 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): Two persons accused of robbery were injured in an encounter with Delhi Police inside Aastha Kunj Park, near Kalkaji Temple in the national capital, police said on Sunday. According to Delhi Police, the encounter took place at 5 am in the Aastha Kunj Park, where the two accused were shot in the leg. Police received information about the whereabouts of the accused, after which they surrounded them. The accused fired at Special Staff Inspector RS Dagar and a Head Constable, after which police fired in retaliation and caught the accused. The two accused, identified as Akshay and Jatin, allegedly looted an American citizen at knifepoint in the South Delhi area a few days ago. In the early hours of Juen 26, a US citizen was robbed after being stabbed in his hand, after which he was admitted to a hospital. He was accompanied by his Indian woman friend during the time of the incident. According to Delhi Police, several other cases of robbery have been registered against the two accused. (ANI)
