Kavitha demands fund release for Moharram
Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Friday demanded that the Telangana government release funds for future Moharram observances. She alleged that both Moharram funds and allocations for the traditional elephant procession have been withheld since the Congress party assumed power. The Telangana Jagruti President specifically called for the government to release funds for Moharram, which is considered the holiest festival for Shia Muslims.
She discussed the matter with Minority Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar over the phone on Friday. Kavitha recalled that the KCR government had released funds for organising Moharram in 2023, but asserted that the subsequent Congress government had not provided any financial support since then. She further highlighted the tradition of Shia Muslims taking out an elephant procession for Moharram, explaining that the government did not grant permission for such a procession in 2024.

Prime Minister Modi will embark on a five-nation tour beginning July 2 to participate in the BRICS Summit in Brazil and expand India's ties with several key nations of the Global South. However, the Indian embassy in Indonesia, in a post on X on Sunday, had said that the defence attache's remarks have been "quoted out of context and the media reports are a misrepresentation of the intention and thrust of the presentation made by the speaker". Ramesh also claimed that the PM is running away from the continued claims by President Trump that he effected a ceasefire between India and Pakistan using the trade deal as a carrot and stick. He further alleged that the PM is running away from "the continued failure to bring the Pahalgam terrorists to justice even after 70 days". "The failure is all the more glaring given they may have been earlier involved in terror attacks in Poonch (Dec 2023) and Gagangir & Gulmarg (Oct 2024)," Ramesh said. Besides Brazil, Modi will visit Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia during the eight-day trip, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). In the first leg of the visit, Modi will undertake a visit to Ghana from July 2 to 3. From Ghana, Modi will travel to Trinidad and Tobago on a two-day visit from July 3 to 4. In the third leg of his visit, Modi will visit Argentina from July 4 to 5. In the fourth leg of his visit, Modi will travel to Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The prime minister will visit Brazil from July 5 to 8 to attend the 17th BRICS Summit followed by a state visit. In the final leg of his visit, Modi will travel to Namibia.

He questioned what was wrong with asking the Centre to hold talks with the Maoists. "The entire country saw how BJP withdrew from the war against Pakistan at the behest of US President Donald Trump's unilateral diktat to the central govt. What moral right do Amit Shah and BJP have to even question Congress' stand on Naxalites when the Modi govt agreed to a ceasefire and to hold talks with Pakistan, which sponsored terrorists, resulting in the Pahalgam attack?" he told reporters, after inspecting arrangements being made for AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge's July 4 visit to Telangana. Kharge would address Congress leaders and workers at LB Stadium on July 4. Congress has always prioritised peace, internal security, and national unity. Dialogue and diplomacy should never be seen as weaknesses but rather as tools to protect democracy and resolve internal conflict. The comments made by Amit Shah against Congress were politically motivated, he said. "The BJP govt stopped the war against Pakistan on the directions of Donald Trump. Why has Amit Shah not made any comments on this issue?" he asked.
