North Texas high school coach and athletic director placed on leave after arrest on child sex-related charges, officials say
Howe ISD has placed its head football coach and athletic director on administrative leave following his arrest earlier this month on three child sex-related charges, according to the school district's superintendent.
Andrew Michael Harvey, 35, of Rhome, is charged with solicitation of a prostitute under the age of 18, online solicitation of a minor for sexual conduct, and the sale, distribution or display of harmful material to a minor, according to arrest records.
Part of multi-agency sting
Harvey was arrested on Tuesday as part of a multi-agency online solicitation of a minor operation, carried out June 17–18 by the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office Human Trafficking/Child Exploitation Unit.

District response and reporting
In correspondence with Howe ISD families, Superintendent Kevin Wilson said Harvey has been barred from district property and contact with students and staff as the district cooperates with law enforcement.
In addition, Wilson said the incident has been reported to the Texas Education Agency and the Department of Family and Protective Services.
Background and employment history
Harvey's teaching certificate is currently under review by the Texas Education Agency. He previously worked in Keller ISD and Sanger ISD.
According to Wilson, Harvey passed fingerprint-based background checks upon being hired in June 2022.
"As with all employees, Harvey completed and passed an initial fingerprint-based background check that identifies criminal history results through both the FBI and the Texas Department of Public Safety," Wilson said. "Howe ISD maintains a subscription to all staff background reports for the entirety of their employment.
"... We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and are committed to transparency as this case develops, within the limits of what the law allows us to share and while maintaining confidentiality for any victim, as outlined by law."
Community urged to report concerns
Wilson urged anyone in the Howe ISD community with concerns or information to contact the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office at (817) 884-3099 or the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services at (800) 252-5400.
"We will continue to keep our community informed as appropriate," Wilson said.

Michigan man, 24, electrocuted, falls 30 feet from boom lift, police say
A 24-year-old Wayland, Michigan, man died after coming into contact with live electrical lines and falling 30 feet from a boom lift Saturday in Ludington, according to police. Ludington police responded to the area of West Ludington Avenue and Robert Street around 10:15 a.m. Saturday, for a report of a person being electrocuted and falling off a building. When officers arrived, they found the man unresponsive and not breathing. Ludington police, along with members of the Mason County Sheriff's Office and two bystanders, attempted lifesaving efforts until firefighters and paramedics arrived. The man was taken to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said. Police say the man was operating a boom lift when, for unknown reasons, the lift and the man came into contact with live electrical lines, causing the man to fall approximately 30 feet. The man was employed by a gutter installation company based in the Ada area, according to police, and they are investigating the incident as a fatal industrial accident. Man charged with murder after stabbing inside Middleboro, Massachusetts home
One person was killed and a second person is charged with murder after a fight and stabbing inside a Middleboro, Massachusetts home Saturday night. It happened around 8 p.m. inside a home on Fairview Street. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said on Sunday that 41-year-old Andrew Horsman has been identified as the suspect and was taken into custody without incident not far from the home. Horsman is charged with one count of murder. Cruz identified the victim as 66-year-old Paul Pomerleau. According to investigators, Pomerleau was stabbed multiple times. He was rushed to Morton Hospital, but pronounced dead within an hour of the violent incident. According to the district attorney, Pomerleau was in a long-term relationship with Horsman's mother. Witnesses told detectives that an argument at the home led up to the deadly stabbing. Horsman is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court. No further information is currently available. Middleboro is a town of about 24,000 people located nearly 40 miles south of Boston.

NBA free agent Malik Beasley under investigation regarding gambling allegations, AP source says
NBA free agent Malik Beasley is under investigation by the U.S. District Attorney's office regarding gambling allegations tied to league games, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment on the matter. 'We are cooperating with the federal prosecutors' investigation,' NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement released to the AP and other outlets on Sunday. ESPN was the first to report on the investigation. 'There have been no charges against Malik,' Steve Haney, Beasley's attorney, told the AP. 'It's just an investigation at this point. We hope people reserve judgement until he's charged — or if he's charged. It's not uncommon for there to be a federal investigation.' The probe into Beasley comes 14 months after the NBA banned Toronto's Jontay Porter, who was linked to a prop bet investigation and eventually pleaded guilty to committing wire fraud. This past season, The Wall Street Journal was first to report that Terry Rozier — then of the Charlotte Hornets — was under investigation for activity related to unusual betting patterns surrounding him in a March 2023 game. Rozier, now of the Miami Heat, has not been charged with any crime, nor has he faced any sanction from the NBA. Porter's ban came after a similar investigation into his performance and 'prop bets' — wagers where bettors can choose whether a player will reach a certain statistical standard or not during a game. The Porter investigation started once the league learned from 'licensed sports betting operators and an organization that monitors legal betting markets' about unusual gambling patterns surrounding Porter's performance in a game on March 20, 2024, against Sacramento. The league determined that Porter gave a bettor information about his own health status prior that game and said that another individual — known to be an NBA bettor — placed an $80,000 bet that Porter would not hit the numbers set for him in parlays through an online sports book. That bet would have won $1.1 million. Beasley signed last year with the Pistons, taking a one-year contract for $6 million in the hopes of cashing in this summer as a free agent. A second person, speaking to AP on condition of anonymity because no deal was announced, said Detroit was 'very interested' in re-signing Beasley to a multi-year contract this summer.
