'Scammers will go to great lengths to make it appear that they are from a legitimate company, be it a bank or some other financial service company,' Bay County Sheriff's Lt. Jeremy Mathis said.

This week is National Data Privacy Week. With that in mind, Bay County Sheriff's officials are sharing tips to keep you and your banking information safe.
'If you receive a correspondence from your bank or your financial institution and your credit union and it says that your account has been hacked and call this number, call the local number that you talk to. Go into your local branch of your bank and say, hey, I got this. Let them see it. If they say that's a scam, it's a scam. Don't don't do anything else,' Mathis said.
You should also pay attention to the way the scammer communicates with you. If the email address looks generic or doesn't have specific information related to your bank, you should be suspicious.
'Pay attention to the email. You will see that it's a gmail.com or a mail.com or Outlook or some other email address that shouldn't be from the company they're purporting themselves to be from,' Mathis said.

If you're not sure, don't click on it. You could open a link to a phishing scam. Officials said banking fraud is one of the fastest-growing scams in the country, so you have to act carefully about sharing sensitive banking information and cautiously monitor your accounts.
'You have to be vigilant with your information and vigilant with your credit and keep an eye on it,' Mathis said.
If you think you're being scammed or suspect any suspicious banking activity, call your bank or the Bay County Sheriff's Office. They'll be able to confirm whether or not you're being deceived.

She had some type of object like a sock or something that was used to bound her hands." Carcamo-Perdomo was arrested on July 14 and has been charged with kidnapping and assault. "Under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE is working day and night to remove the MILLIONS of illegal aliens in our interior. LAW AND ORDER WILL PREVAIL!" The lieutenant in charge of that investigation says he believes this is part of a much larger traffic ring that they're now investigating in Harris County. In a statement, the migrant's attorney said Carcamo is "shocked by the serious allegations" brought forth against him and "firmly maintains his complete innocence." "We remind the public that under the United States Constitution, every individual is entitled to the presumption of innocence, the right to due process, and a fair trial," the statement reads. "We expect law enforcement, the State of Texas, and the judicial system to honor these fundamental rights without prejudice or assumption.

Postal inspectors investigating fiery car crash at California post office as an intentional act
SAN JOSE, Calif. — The U.S. Postal Inspection Service said Monday it is investigating a fiery car crash at a San Jose, California, post office over the weekend as a potentially intentional act. Richard Tillman, 44, of San Jose was arrested after the car rammed into the office located in a strip mall around 3 a.m. Sunday, causing the building to go up in flames, San Jose police said. No injuries were reported. About 50 firefighters took about an hour and a half to knock down the flames at the Almaden Valley Station Post Office south of downtown. Photos posted online by the fire department showed a charred vehicle inside the heavily damaged one-story building. Tillman was booked on suspicion of arson. He was held in lieu of $60,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, according to online custody records. A phone number could not be located for Tillman. Messages were sent to the Santa Clara County District Attorney asking if he has an attorney. The incident is being investigated as a 'potentially intentional act,' U.S. Postal Inspector Michael Martel said in an email. There was no information about a possible motive. Martel said Tillman is 'reported to be the brother of the late NFL player and U.S. Army soldier Patrick Tillman.' But the postal inspection agency and San Jose police did not provide any additional information. Pat Tillman left the Arizona Cardinals to join the military after 9/11 and was killed in Afghanistan in 2004 at age 27. His family is from the San Jose area.
