"I remember when I was young, a long, long time ago, I was always excited to see the Swimsuit Issue of Sports Illustrated, and (thinking) 'Who's going to be in it?'" she told Sports Illustrated while shooting in Mexico.
"Of course, I didn't look like a model, so it never crossed my mind that one day I would be in it.
"If somebody had told me I was gonna be in it at 58, I would have sent them to the madhouse, but the world has changed, and that's exciting," she adds.
Other major figures gracing the SI cover this year include former LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles and model Lauren Chan.
'Sports Illustrated Swimsuit has always been about more than swimsuits and stunning imagery,' MJ Day, the editor in chief of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, said of the Mexican actress's first-ever cover.
'It's about creating a platform to capture moments that define our times, celebrating people who are shaping culture, and showcasing beauty on a world stage.'
In 2024, cover stars included Sports Illustrated veterans Kate Upton and Chrissy Teigen as well as journalist Gayle King.
The oldest person to appear in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue is Martha Stewart, who was 81 years old when she appeared on the cover of the 2023 issue.

Superstar Tyla surprises Mollwane Madiba at matric dance

Grammy Award-winning singer Tyla made a surprise appearance at Mollwane Madiba's matric dance, turning the event into a night no one will soon forget. Madiba, a Grade 12 learner, had launched a viral campaign months ago, inviting Tyla to be his date for the big night. Many doubted she would show up. Even Madiba himself admitted, 'I honestly thought it was a long shot. But I had to try. Tyla is an inspiration to us all.' The 5FM team, who had been supporting Madiba's campaign, presented him with a life-size cardboard cutout of Tyla, dressed in her iconic Jacquemus Met Gala look, according to IOL. Laughter filled the suite as Madiba posed with the cutout, saying, 'I guess this is as close as I'll get!' But the real magic was yet to come. As the night unfolded, Tyla herself walked in, holding Madiba's arm. Dressed in a sleek black gown, she instantly became the centre of attention. The crowd erupted. Phones flashed. Videos and photos flooded Instagram and TikTok within minutes. 'It was unreal,' said one student. 'We all screamed. No one could believe it was her.' The singer presence electrified the room. She joined Madiba on the dance floor, moving to her chart-topping hits. Students sang along, their voices echoing through the hall. Tyla later said, 'I couldn't miss this. Mollwane's determination touched me. South African youth have so much spirit.' The hashtag #moandtylaformd quickly trended on South African social media. Madiba's accounts exploded with messages of support and congratulations. 'You did it, bro!' read one comment. Another fan wrote, 'Tyla, you made history tonight!' The event was a celebration of dreams, community, and the power of social media. Tyla's appearance lifted everyone's spirits and gave Madiba a night he'll never forget. 'This is the best night of my life,' Madiba said, beaming. 'Tyla, thank you for making my dream come true.' The singer's willingness to honour a fan's request shows the strong connection between South African artists and their supporters. 'We are a nation that stands together,' Tyla shared. 'Tonight, we danced as one.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. How life has changed for Uyanda Hlangabezo after being on Big Brother Mzansi

Uyanda Hlangabezo has extended his leave as a teacher so he could attend events such as the upcoming Durban July. Uyanda Hlangabezo has opened up about how his life has changed after being on Big Brother Mzansi. Picture: uyanda_hlangabezo /Instagram Former Big Brother contestant Uyanda Hlangabezo's life has changed significantly after being part of the reality TV show, to the extent that he has had to step away from his full-time job as a teacher by taking extended leave. Because the reality show premiered in January, Hlangabezo says he missed the first term of school. 'In term two when I was back from Big Brother, I decided to go to work for one week, which is when I realised that it was hard for me to balance work in the industry and my profession,' Hlangabezo says. 'I'm a qualified educator, which is a pedagogical practitioner but because of the events that I'm attending, I decided to extend my unpaid leave,' Hlangabezo told The Citizen. He says his pupils have found his newfound fame inspiring. 'They're super inspired. Lately I've been getting invitations from different schools to be a motivational speaker. To see learners in schools being inspired by my story is amazing.' 'That shows the role that I've played in the Big Brother house. I don't want to lie, my life has changed a lot. Weekly, I'm busy with a lot of brands that I'm working with,' he said. Hlangabezo says he received several invitations from various marquees at this year's July event, but decided to accept Executive Concerts' invitation to their marquee. T'bo Touch will host the marque alongside business personality Hope Mbele. 'Durban July is one of the biggest events in South Africa and I'm very excited to see people recognise me after being on Big Brother is something that I'm grateful for.' This will be his first Durban July. The performers headlining the Executive Concerts marquee are Kabza De Small, Nkosazana Daughter, DJ Merlon, Stanky and a handpicked line-up of local legends and surprise guest performances – blending amapiano beats with refined sophistication. 'Executive Concerts is about more than just an event. It's about shaping a cultural moment where Africa's elite can connect, celebrate and showcase the best of who we are,' says Andile Chili, founding partner of Executive Concerts.
