The decision follows a directive from high court, offering a breather to the affected residential buildings.
KSEB issued disconnection notices to 71 residential apartment complexes across the city for failing to install STPs in compliance with PCB guidelines. The decision, which threatened to cut off electricity to over 1,500 households within a week, sparked widespread concern among residents.
When high court considered the suo motu case regarding the pollution of Thevara – Perandoor Canal, it also took into account the impleading petitions filed by different associations of affected apartment complexes and asked PCB to consider granting the petitioners reasonable time.
"Considering the main purpose of initiating suo motu petition is to address the environmental hazards caused by the accumulation of filth and garbage in the canal, as regards the grievance of the applicant noticees concerning the short time given by pollution control board for compliance, we direct that if an undertaking (along with resolutions in case of companies/societies) is submitted by the noticees (even other than the applicants) seeking reasonable time for compliance, the pollution control board will consider granting such reasonable time, provided the undertaking expresses a genuine intention of compliance," said the court order.
In the backdrop of the court order, the Consortium of Flat and Villa Owners Association, Kerala will convene a meeting of the affected families residing in 71 apartment complexes soon and each family will approach PCB with an affidavit or seek time for installing STPs. "Only three or four affected parties approached court. But the order is applicable to all. So, we have decided to approach PCB seeking extension of time.

Each apartment association can demand time as per their requirement. We will coordinate the activities," said Saju Abraham, chairman of the consortium.
A senior official of KSPCB told TOI that they decided to accept undertakings from affected parties and KSPCB would grant proper time after examining conditions given in the undertakings.
HC will consider the case at the next hearing on Sept 11, and the consortium is planning to sort out the issues by submitting the undertakings to PCB before the date.
T J Vinod, MLA, strongly criticised KSEB, PCB and the municipality for issuing the notice. He said that he would bring the issue to the notice of chief minister. "PCB does not even have a list of approved agencies to establish STPs. Some flats received notice last month and are in the process of setting up sewage treatment systems, which could take up to 12 months to complete," said the MLA. All the flats that received the notice were built when these regulations were not in place.
The municipality's action of leaving these residents, who trusted the occupancy certificate provided by the municipality and started living in the flats, was unacceptable, stated the MLA.

Container Road remains pitch dark as NHAI, KSEB spar over two transformers

KOCHI: A long-pending demand to light up 'accident-prone' Container Road, connecting Kalamassery to Vallarpadam, is yet to be realised despite the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) installing as many as 1,106 streetlights along a 17.12km stretch of NH 966A. The reason? A bone of contention between the NHAI and the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) over the setting up of a couple of power transformers. While the stretch, which is undergoing renovation works worth Rs 100 crore, already has two transformers, the KSEB has insisted on the setting up of another two as a condition for providing power. Both agencies are now placing the onus on each other, resulting in the 'delay'. In a recent statement in Parliament, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said the installation of streetlights on NH 966A had been completed at a cost of Rs 7.78 crore. 'The NHAI said in its reply that it is awaiting connection from the KSEB and expects to receive it by the end of July. Streetlights have been installed in accordance with the board's standards, the standards of the Indian Roads Congress, a leading technical guideline body, and best practices,' Gadkari said, in response to a query raised by Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden.

PCB bans players from WCL over India-Pakistan match controversy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a ban on its players' participation in future World Championship of Legends (WCL) tournaments, citing bias and political interference after India forfeited matches. read more Lahore, Aug 3: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday announced a blanket ban on its players' participation in future editions of the World Championship of Legends (WCL), accusing the tournament organisers of being 'biased' and lacking sporting integrity. The decision follows a sequence of events in which the Indian team forfeited both their group-stage clash and semifinal against Pakistan, citing the country's stand against bilateral sporting ties with the neighbouring country after the gruesome Pahalagam terror attack. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announces that it is issuing a blanket ban from future participation in the World Championship of Legends (WCL),' the PCB said in a statement after its board of governors meeting held virtually under the chairmanship of Mohsin Naqvi. The PCB also took strong exception to the WCL's decision to award points to India despite the forfeiture, calling it 'tainted with hypocrisy and bias.' India and Pakistan had been slated to meet in the group stage, but the Indian side – featuring Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, and Harbhajan Singh – refused to play, citing national sentiment following the terror attack and India's subsequent 'Operation Sindoor'. With India also pulling out of the semifinal, Pakistan advanced directly to the final. 'The PCB reviewed with considerable disappointment WCL's appalling conduct of awarding points to a willfully forfeiting team, and the content of the press releases of the WCL announcing the cancellation of the scheduled India vs. Pakistan legends matches, which were tainted with hypocrisy and bias.' Criticising the tournament's handling of the situation, the PCB said, 'The cancellation was not based on cricketing merit but on appeasing a specific nationalistic narrative. This sends an unacceptable message to the international sporting community.' The board further stated that it could not allow its players to participate in events where 'the spirit of the game is overshadowed by skewed politics that undermine the very essence of sportsmanship and the gentleman's game.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The WCL, which is co-owned by Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, had earlier issued an apology for 'hurting the feelings of many and stirring emotions' following the cancellation of the group stage match. 'We sincerely apologise again for hurting the sentiments and hope people will understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans,' the WCL had said. The PCB, however, termed the apology 'farcical,' accusing the organisers of caving to 'a specific nationalistic narrative.' 'The WCL's apology for 'hurting the sentiments', whilst being farcical, inadvertently acknowledges that the cancellation was not based on cricketing merit, but rather on succumbing to a specific nationalistic narrative,' the PCB said. 'This bias, masquerading as sensitivity, sends an unacceptable message to the international sporting community.' PCB said it had no choice but to implement the ban. 'In light of this unfortunate development, which underscores a clear and intolerable pattern of external influence and a disregard for the principles of sporting neutrality, the Pakistan Cricket Board is compelled to take a firm stance. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'The PCB can no longer condone participation in an event where the fundamental principles of fair play and unbiased administration are compromised by external pressures,' it added. Sources in the know of things have indicated that WCL's Indian promoters were already considering dropping the Pakistan team from future editions of the tournament.

Pakistan Cricket Board Issues Blanket Ban On Future Participation In WCL; Heres Why

The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced a "blanket ban" from future participation in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) citing "biased" conduct by the organisers of the tournament. The decision from the governing body of Pakistan cricket comes after India Champions forfeited two games, including the semi-final, against Pakistan Champions due to strained political relations between the two countries. Several Indian players, including Shikhar Dhawan, had voiced their refusal to face Pakistan in Birmingham in the league stage of the tournament. The two sides were slated to meet again in the semi-finals before team India opted to pull out of the game instead. Meanwhile, the PCB also criticised WCL's decision to award points to a forfeiting team. Notably, both teams shared points when India had refused to play Pakistan in the group match. 'The PCB, during its 79th BoG meeting held virtually under the chairmanship of Mohsin Naqvi reviewed with considerable disappointment WCL's appalling conduct of awarding points to a willfully forfeiting team, and the content of the press releases of the WCL announcing the cancellation of the scheduled India vs. Pakistan legends matches, which were tainted with hypocrisy and bias," the PCB said in a statement. "The contents of the said press releases highlight a duality where the narrative of 'peace through sport' is selectively applied and sporting events are held hostage to political expediency and narrow commercial interests. In light of this unfortunate development, which underscores a clear and intolerable pattern of external influence and a disregard for the principles of sporting neutrality, the Pakistan Cricket Board is compelled to take a firm stance. The PCB can no longer condone participation in an event where the fundamental principles of fair play and unbiased administration are compromised by external pressures," it added. The statement from PCB comes after its 79th board of governors meeting, held virtually under the chairmanship of Mohsin Naqvi. The virtual meeting was attended by Sumair Ahmed Syed, Salman Naseer, Zaheer Abbas, Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Sajjad Ali Khokhar, Zafarullah Jadgal, Tanveer Ahmed, Tariq Sarwar, Muhammad Ismail Qureshi, Anwaar Ahmad Khan, Adnan Malik, Usman Wahla (special invitee) and Mir Hassan Naqvi (Additional Secretary).
