Cam Ward Madden 26 player rating surprisingly low. Titans QB doesn't rank among top rookies
Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward does not rank anywhere near the top 10 rookies in the Madden 26 initial player ratings released by EA Sports on July 30.
Ward's initial rating is a 72 overall, tops among the rookie quarterbacks but well off of Travis Hunter's 84 overall rating to lead all rookies.
Ward ranks tied for 69th among all rookies, and his initial player rating is the lowest for a No. 1 overall pick in years in the annual video game. Bears QB Caleb Williams began last season at a 76 overall as the No. 1 pick.
Ward is not even the highest rated Titans rookie in the game, with second-rounder Femi Oladejo coming in at a 74 overall.

Madden ratings can and will fluctuate during the season. Last year, Commanders QB Jayden Daniels opened as a 74 overall and moved up into the 80s by midseason. But 72 overall?
Ward and the Titans have a long way to go to exceed public perception, and the initial Madden rating for the No. 1 pick is another example.
EA Sports releases Madden 26, its annual NFL video game, on Aug. 14.

Matthew Tkachuk has been the face of the Florida Panthers for the past three years. He is becoming one of the faces of USA hockey, too, leading into the Winter Olympics in February. And now, he's the face of the NHL's annual video game. Tkachuk, the Panthers' star winger, will be the cover athlete for NHL 26, EA Sports unveiled on Monday. The full cover design for the game will be announced Wednesday on the EA Sports NHL YouTube channel. Tkachuk, who joined the Panthers via a blockbuster trade with the Calgary Flames ahead of the 2022-23 season, has helped turn the Panthers into a juggernaut. Florida has reached the Stanley Cup Final in all three of his seasons with the team and won it all each of the past two years. In that time, Tkachuk has logged 254 points (88 goals, 166 assists) in 211 regular-season games with the Panthers while adding another 69 points (25 goals, 44 assists) in 67 Stanley Cup playoffs games. He was tied for the team lead with 23 points during the team's run to a second consecutive Stanley Cup. Tkachuk also helped the United States win silver in the 4 Nations Face-Off in February and has already been named one of six players to be on Team USA for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Tkachuk is the second Panthers player to grace the cover of the video game's main cover. Goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck was on the cover of NHL 97. Meanwhile, Olli Jokinen was on the cover of the European version of NHL 2005. It's the second time in the past three years a South Florida athlete has been the main cover athlete for a league's video game. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was on the cover of 2023 edition of MLB The Show when he was with the Miami Marlins.

Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk will be on the cover of NHL 26, EA Sports announced Monday. A full reveal for the video game will premier Wednesday. "He's loud," EA Sports wrote on social media. "He's relentless. He's a problem. Now he's the face of the game." Tkachuk, 27, joined the Panthers through a 2022 trade from the Calgary Flames. The nine-year veteran made the Stanley Cup Final in each of his three seasons with the franchise, including their back-to-back title-winning campaigns in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Tkachuk tied Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Reinhart for the Panthers' team lead in postseason points, with 23 over 23 games. He scored eight goals and chipped in 15 assists during the Panthers' 2024-25 playoff run. NHL 26 is expected to be released in September. The NHL 26 preview will air Wednesday on YouTube.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Titans are "opening to adding on defense via free agency" and he specifically mentions former Steelers EDGE Preston Smith as a "name to watch" for Tennessee. "Tennessee is open to adding on defense via free agency," Fowler wrote. "Pass rusher and corner would be two spots to watch there. One name to watch: veteran defensive end Preston Smith." Smith was a surprise acquisition for the Steelers at last year's trade deadline. While all the attention at the time was on Pittsburgh adding a wide receiver, they unexpectedly added to a position that was already a strength, also. However, Smith did not pan out for Pittsburgh, even though he believed he was going to a more advantageous situation thanks to the Steelers' 3-4 defense, an alignment that Smith thinks is the best for him. Smith appeared in eight games and tallied two sacks, but he was also inactive for two of the team's last three games, including the playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Smith never played more than 28 snaps in any game for Pittsburgh. Prior to his 4.5-sack campaign in 2024, Smith posted six seasons with eight or more sacks, with the most recent coming in 2023. He'd be a welcomed addition for a Tennessee team that needs more juice in its pass rush.
