Charlie Woods misses cut at US Junior Amateur Championships
The 16-year-old Woods finished the second round at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas on Tuesday with a 74 (3-over), which was a seven-stroke improvement from his first round score the day before.
That put Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, at a 14-over during the two days of the tournament, with the projected cut line to qualify for match play at 2-over.

The first two rounds are stroke play before switching to match play after the cut.
Woods played the front nine in even-par 36 and was having an under-par round heading into the 17th hole, but finished the final two holes with a bogey and a double bogey.

Tiger Woods — who won the U.S. Junior Amateur in 1991, 1992 and 1993 — was on hand in Texas to see his son compete at Trinity Forest.
Other notable winners of the tournament include Jordan Spieth (2009 and 2011) and Scottie Scheffler (2013).

This is the second consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur appearance in which Woods failed to make it to match play after he fell short with rounds of 82 and 80 in 2024 at Oakland Hills.

Woods qualified for the tournament through a playoff at a qualifying site last month at Coral Springs, Fla.

Jackson Byrd, the 18-year-old son of Jonathan Byrd, Trevor Gutschewski, the 18-year-old son of Korn Ferry Tour winner Scott Gutschewski, and Cameron Kuchar, the 17-year-old son of nine-time PGA Tour winner Matt Kuchar, all participated in this year's U.S. Junior Amateur.

PGA Tour's Billy Horschel to sponsor AJGA tournament near Atlanta, replacing First Coast event
of Ponte Vedra Beach will sponsor an American Junior Golf Association tournament near Atlanta, after being associated with an event on the First Coast from 2017-2023. Horschel, an eight-time PGA Tour winner, will sponsor the AJGA Atlanta Classic through his Family Foundation Aug. 22-24 at the Planterra Club in Peachtree City, Ga. The tournament will be played at the Planterra Club for the third year in a row and in Fayette County, Ga., for the sixth year. The Billy Horschel Championship, presented by Zurich, was played from 2017-2023, three times at Eagle Harbor (2017, 2018 and 2023) and at the TPC Sawgrass Dye's Valley (2021) and The Palencia Club (2022). In a news release, the AJGA said, "Horschel's tournament, which is relocating from the Jacksonville area, brings a fresh chapter for both Horschel and the AJGA in Georgia." Tournament chairman Jeff Holt indicated that Horschel being a member of the TGL Champion Atlanta Drive was a good fit for the tournament. Zurich will also continue to be a presenting sponsor. 'Coming off his TGL SoFi Championship with Atlanta Drive, we are excited to welcome Billy Horschel as the host of the Atlanta Classic and Zurich as the new presenting sponsor,' Holt said in a statement. The move leaves the Junior Players Championship on Labor Day weekend at the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course as the only AJGA Tournament on the First Coast. Between 2018-2021, the area also had Horschel's event in October, the Annika Invitational, sponsored by World Golf Hall of Fame member Annika Sorenstam, in February. The Sorenstam tournament moved to Orlando in 2022. Beckham Cummings, Elize Nograbat win Jacksonville Junior Beckham Cummings of Fleming Island and Elize Nograbat of St. Johns won their divisions in the Greater Jacksonville Junior Championship July 15-16 at Eagle Harbor. Cummings shot 70 in the first round and birdied Nos. 10, 14 and 15 in the second round to open up as much as a four-shot lead. He finished at 2-under 142 and defeated D.J. Miles Russell, Tyler Mawhinney go on birdie streaks in first round of U.S. Junior Amateur
Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach and Tyler Mawhinney of Fleming Island both used hot streaks during their rounds to propel them near the top of the leaderboard after the first day of the U.S. Junior Amateur on July 21 in Dallas. Russell birdied four of five holes in the middle of his round at the Trinity Forest Golf Club and shot 4-under 67 to tie for third. Mawhinney birdied four of his first five holes at Trinity Forest and with a 3-under 68 tied for who began his round at No. 10, was even par through six holes. He then birdied Nos. 16, 18, 1 and 2. Both will play their second rounds of stroke play on July 22 at the Brook Hollow Golf Club. The top 64 players after 36 holes of stroke play will advance to match play on July 23 at Trinity Forest. Kailer Stone of Alameda, Calif., a Pepperdine commit, and Qiyou Wu of China shared the first-round lead with 5-under 66s at Trinity Forest. Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach fades late, misses cut at PGA Tour's ISCO Championship
Miles Russell was two shots inside the cut line when he birdied the par-5 10th hole at the Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville, Ky., on July 11 in the second round of the PGA Tour's ISCO Championship. The 16-year-old from Jacksonville Beach couldn't hold on in his third PGA Tour start as an amateur. Russell bogeyed four of his last eight holes and finished with a 73 and a 36-hole total of 3-over 143, two shots off the 1-over cut. Russell had to birdie one of the last three holes to make the weekend but two-putted for par at Nos. 16 and 17 and missed the 18th fairway to the left, forcing him to gouge a shot out of heavy rough and under the branches of a tree. It came up about 30 yards short of the hole and needing to hit that in the jar to make the cut, he sent the shot past the flag and into the fringe on the other side. Russell had 30 feet for par, sent a chip 9 feet past the hole and made that for bogey. Russell was trying to become the second First Coast teenager to make a cut on the PGA Tour this summer. Tyler Mawhinney of Fleming Island made the cut and tied for 65th Miles Russell was in good shape through 11 holes Russell bogeyed his first hole but played steady after that with seven pars and tap-in birdies on the two par-5 holes, Nos. 7 and 10. Russell got up and down from off the green for both of his short birdie putts and made three par putts on the front nine between 6 and 8 feet. His troubles began with a three-putt for bogey at No. 11. Russell failed to make par after hitting into the left bunker at the par-3 13th hole and into the back fringe at the par-4 15th, missing putts of 11 and 6 feet. Russell had putts of 21 feet at No. 16 and 33 feet at No. 17 for birdie. What were Miles Russell's stats in the second round? He hit 7 of 14 fairways for the second day in a row and after finding the putting surface in seven of his first nine holes, he hit only two more the rest of the round, for 11 of 18.
