All 11 victims are expected to survive the shooting near a South Carolina party boat
Only three of the people hurt in Sunday night's shooting remain in the hospital, and all are expected to survive, Horry County Police Chief Kris Leonhardt said during a news conference Tuesday.
The shooting happened on the dock in Little River along the Intracoastal Waterway as people were getting off the boat, Leonhardt said. Investigators believe only one person was firing.
Ten people were shot and one person was hurt when a speaker fell on their head, authorities said.
No arrests have been made. Leonhardt said many people ran for their lives when the gunfire erupted and were gone by the time officers arrived.
The chief refused to say what started the dispute on the boat and how it led to the shooting on the dock. He also would not say what kind of weapon was used.
'Items were recovered, but that's part of the investigation, and we don't want to release it at this time,' Leonhardt said.
Most of the victims were shot in the lower part of their bodies, Horry County Fire Chief Joseph Tanner said.
The shooting around 9:15 p.m. Sunday happened where a private charter boat docks for cruises. About 120 people and four crew members were on the packed boat, authorities said.
A flyer online advertised a party with a DJ on a three-hour cruise ending at 9 p.m. A woman who answered a phone number on the flyer told The Associated Press that she was distraught seeing her friends get shot, but then said she didn't want to talk anymore and hung up.
Someone who answered the phone at the company that owns the boat told the AP he didn't want to talk to a reporter.
About 3 miles (5 kilometers) down the Intracoastal Waterway, a North Myrtle Beach police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg as he tried to get a boat into the water to respond to the shooting scene, officials said.
Little River is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Myrtle Beach. The fishing village is known for its docks and marinas where fishing expeditions, casino boats and several dolphin cruises leave daily.
The investigation into Sunday's shooting has been made a little harder because many of the people on the boat were from out of town and detectives are trying to track them down, Leonhardt said.

Rep. Nancy Mace teases decision on South Carolina governor bid: ‘Couple of days'
(NEXSTAR/The Hill) — Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) said Sunday she plans to decide in the coming days whether to launch a bid for South Carolina governor. In an interview on Fox News' 'Fox Report Weekend,' Mace hinted that she 'may be forced' to enter the race. 'I will be making a decision over the next couple of days about my future,' Mace said. 'I believe I may be forced to run for governor because I can't watch my beautiful red state of South Carolina go woke. It's gone woke over the last couple of years.' Rep. Ralph Norman announces run for South Carolina governor The congresswoman was asked about local coverage of her Friday event in New Hampshire, which anchor Jon Scott said the local paper reported 'all but confirms a run for South Carolina governor.' Mace would enter a crowded GOP primary race, with candidates including state Attorney General Alan Wilson, state Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), who launched his campaign in recent days. But Mace, in the Sunday interview, sought to present the election as a two-person race against Wilson. 'This is a two-man race, if I get in, between me and Alan Wilson, the South Carolina attorney general, who likes to put pedophiles on trial and give them one day in jail serve,' she said. 'And so I don't believe that the South Carolina people will go for that,' she continued, 'but we'll be making a decision about my future over the next couple of days, and we're excited about it.' Video shows chaos amid Baltimore's Federal Hill shooting
Video obtained by WJZ shows people running away as seven gunshots were fired early Sunday in Baltimore's Federal Hill, which left a woman injured. Police said a 39-year-old woman was shot multiple times shortly after midnight in the 1000 block of S. Charles Street. She was stable at the hospital. A person of interest is in custody, according to police. Tips can be reported to Southern District Shooting detectives at 410-396-2499 or anonymously through the Metro Crime Stoppers tipline: 866-7LockUp. Security video from a Federal Hill business shows people dispersing as gunfire is heard in the background. A nearby restaurant employee described the chaotic scene. "I was packing up stuff, and I heard some gunshot[s] and then when I looked up, people just ran," said the employee, who wanted to stay anonymous. The employee told WJZ he's seen violence like this before. "When something like that happened, it made me a little bit nervous and a little bit worried because I do work here late, and I leave it late too," the employee said. "Sometimes it's like shocking and a little scary. I've been here for about five years already, so I'm used to it. When I see a lot of people, it is just another working day." The employee said the business doesn't want repeated violence in the area, but it doesn't want crime to deter customers from visiting. "We enjoy having people come in here, but stuff like this may scare people away," the employee said. "Everybody, calm down and stay safe." As WJZ has reported, recent crime in the area has been the epicenter of concern for both residents and businesses in the neighborhood. Just down the street, a man was beaten with a broomstick and left with a severe injury to his eye in the fall of 2024. In September of 2024, a 24-year-old man was shot and killed near Mugshots Bar & Grill on E. Cross Street. Earlier this month, Baltimore police said more than 60 vehicles and several businesses were damaged by vandals. The break-ins happened in the unit block and 200 block of East Montgomery Street, the 600 block of South Charles Street, and the 600 block of Washington Boulevard near Camden Yards. Surveillance video from the Federal Hill Cleaners on Charles Street showed the front glass door being shattered on July 13.

1 man in critical condition after shooting in Pittsburgh's Bedford Dwellings neighborhood
A man has been hospitalized in critical condition after a shooting in Pittsburgh's Bedford Dwellings neighborhood. Just before 8 p.m. Sunday, Pittsburgh police officers from Zone 2 were dispatched to the 2500 block of Chauncey Drive for a single, four-round ShotSpotter alert. While officers were en route to the scene, a man with a single gunshot wound to his chest arrived at the Zone 2 police station after driving himself there. EMS personnel subsequently transported the man to an area hospital. A preliminary information suggests that the suspect fled the scene on Chauncey Drive in a vehicle, heading north, towards the McKees Rocks area. Officers are reviewing any available camera footage and interviewing witnesses in the area as the investigation remains ongoing.
