Could Chiefs DL Chris Jones be a potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate in 2025?

USA Today5 days ago

The Kansas City Chiefs have never produced a Defensive Player of the Year winner, and may seem unlikely to do so next season after their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX earlier this year.
But, as the future is still undecided, the experts at Pro Football Network took it upon themselves to speculate about the likelihood of Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones winning the coveted DPOY award for the 2025 season.
Take a look at what PFN had to say about Jones below:
"Though he dropped from 10.5 sacks in 2023 to just five in 2024, Chris Jones finished last year with his third consecutive first-team All-Pro nomination.
With [Aaron] Donald's retirement, Jones has taken the mantle as the best defensive tackle in the NFL. His ability to get to the quarterback along the interior makes him the anchor of the Kansas City Chiefs' defense."
Clearly, expectations will remain high for Jones and the Chiefs' other veteran stars as Kansas City looks to avenge its latest championship defeat next season.

Support for Eagles legend Jason Kelce continues despite recent criticism

Before another word is uttered or typed, here's perhaps one of the better ways to sum up the events of Jason Kelce's recent fundraiser and the support and the backlash that have followed. The G.O.A.T. is a Philadelphia Eagles icon. His standing among franchise legends has long been secure. He's also one of the most colorful personalities in the history of this great organization. Perhaps you have heard. A Philadelphia sports legend climbed a lifeguard's chair and stripped down to star-spangled briefs. He did so as his grand entrance to an event created to raise money to combat autism. As you might imagine, that led to support and criticism. This story isn't being written to choose sides. Sure, some might argue that there are other ways to support autism. It's a fair argument, one that wouldn't be difficult to find agreement with. Still, it's also fair to say that, though Kelce may not shy away from making people uncomfortable, he hasn't been the type of person to disrespect others intentionally. Since last Wednesday's events, Kelce's actions have been criticized. He has also seen an outpouring of support for being uniquely himself and using his platform to help others. To be positive, here's an attempt to recognize a good guy for trying to do a good thing. Heartfelt thank yous have flooded the web and social media. Are we crazy? We're having a hard time being enraged at him for this. Take a poll, and most probably won't host a celebrity bartending event to raise money for charity. There is nothing wrong with being among the number who would elect to raise funds to battle autism in some other fashion. Still, Kelce has raised more than $1.4 million since 2021 for the same reason. He found a way to connect with people who, otherwise, may not have supported a great cause. That may have been missed in some of the discussion. He hasn't done anything illegal. He has used his platform to assist others and has done so unselfishly. If we're being fair, that must also be taken into consideration. That too must be commended. 30 Most Important Eagles of 2025: No. 26 Moro Ojomo

Every day from now until the start of training camp, we're counting down our 30 Most Important Eagles for the 2025 season. The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for Super Bowl defense, which features plenty of new and returning faces within the organization. Several players, coaches, and front-office members are crucial to the team's success this season. Every day from now until the start of training camp, we're counting down our 30 Most Important Eagles for the 2025 season. We'll recap their 2024 season, look ahead to 2025, and tackle the most significant question facing them this year. Next up is Moro Ojomo, a third-year pass-rushing defensive tackle looking for a breakout season after the departure of Milton Williams. Background Position: DT Age: 23 Experience: 3rd-year vet 2025 cap hit: $1,049,446 2024 recap Ojomo finished the 2024 season with 20 total tackles (six solo) in 17 regular-season games. 2025 outlook Ojomo returned to his home country just weeks after the Eagles' 40-22 win over the Chiefs, which secured their second-ever championship title. Ojomo significantly contributed to the Eagles' victory, logging a sack. Philadelphia didn't land Walter Nolen and waited until Round 4 to land Ty Brown out of Nebraska. The 68 defensive snaps Ojomo logged as a rookie swelled to 388 in Year 2. Many of those came on third down in pass-rushing situations. When he was on the field, he had the third-highest pass rush win rate in all of pro football and should be utilized in several different scenarios. Biggest question: Can Ojomo help replace Milton Williams' pass rush? Ojomo still maintains his role as a pass-rushing defensive tackle, who can play on the edge in specific situations, and potentially replace Milton Williams's pass-rush prowess. Ojomo's 82.6 pass rush grade was the fifth-best in the NFL, according to PFF. 30 Most Important Eagles of 2025 We're counting down our 30 Most Important Eagles of 2025. Chiefs' Biggest 'Red Flag' Aimed At 'Unproven' Talent

Chiefs' Biggest 'Red Flag' Aimed At 'Unproven' Talent originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs will enter the 2025 season with a lot to prove after the Super Bowl debacle still front of mind for some. Advertisement With several roster changes that include multiple new pieces along the offensive line, many are dubious as to what the Chiefs, who still have Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, and Chris Jones, can be this upcoming season. Yes, they are the defending AFC champs fresh off a 15-2 regular season record, but it seems that doesn't matter with the Super Bowl loss leaving a lasting impression. For CBS Sports, the Chiefs have one big red flag on their roster, and it is relying on unproven talent along the offensive line. "The Ravens just need their front to stay healthy," CBS Sports writes. "The Chiefs, meanwhile, may or may not have a title-caliber line at all. That was clear as day in Super Bowl LIX, when the Philadelphia Eagles tore them to pieces, rendering Patrick Mahomes a nonfactor. Advertisement "Now All-Pro interior man Joe Thuney is gone, and two new faces occupy the present and/or future of left tackle, with rookie Josh Simmons and former San Francisco 49ers prospect Jaylon Moore tasked with protecting Mahomes' blind side. That's a fair amount of pressure for unproven blockers." Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes© Denny Medley-Imagn Images Does the success of the Chiefs hinge on a revamped offensive line? We saw in the Super Bowl that even a quarterback as good as Mahomes is rendered useless when his front five can't protect against a four-man front. Jaylon Moore, a four-year backup, and Josh Simmons, a rookie left tackle, along with Kingsley Suamataia, who has shifted from left tackle inside to guard, will be tasked with protecting the best quarterback in football. Advertisement Do that, and the Chiefs are golden. Struggle and alarms will be going off everywhere for Reid and his coaching staff.
