Time Out29-04-2025
In love with In The Mood For Love? Fans of arthouse director Wong Kar Wai can now step into his alluring and glamorous cinematic world at Mi Shang, Prada's first standalone fine dining restaurant in Asia.
Opened on March 31, the restaurant is located in a beautifully restored 1918 mansion and art venue in Shanghai called Rong Zhai, which the Prada Group reopened as a cultural hub in 2017. In actuality, it's more than just a restaurant, with six spaces to explore throughout the massive residence, which comprises a restaurant, pastry shop, lounges, and a terrace.
Where Wong Kar Wai's influence takes over is in the interior decor, which has been sourced directly from Prada's vast art collection. Thoughtfully arranged with Chinese antique furniture, Mi Shang perfectly encapsulates the East-meets-West flavour of this collaboration.
At Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai, you can also view a special art exhibition developed by Wong Kar Wai in collaboration with the art brand Duo Yun Xuan. Titled Rising Clouds, Blooming Flowers, it features a series of Shanghai-style woodblock artworks inspired by the director's television series, "Blossoms Shanghai".
Mi Shang Prada Rong Zhai is now open to the public from 10am to 10pm daily. You can make reservations for the dining experience via its WeChat mini-program. Before you head down, here's a look into its spaces.
The Pastry Shop
Savour classic Italian pastries, including cassata, delizia al limone, and tiramisu, created by Diego Crosara, a World Champion pastry chef who is now the Creative Pastry Director of Marchesi 1824, a Prada Group brand. The pastry shop is inspired by Prada's first Milan store, which opened in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in 1913.
The Caffè and The Study
Reminiscent of the Shanghai social hubs common in the 1910s to the 1930s, The Caffè is built around an elegant bar counter crafted by the same local artisans who restored the villa's wooden elements. Within is The Study, an intimate space with vibrant wallpaper and antique collectibles.
The Library
This lounge in the South Wing features a curated collection of books that cover topics such as Chinese crafts, decorative arts, and Italian design. Here's also where you can view an artwork from the Rising Clouds, Blooming Flowers series, crafted by Wong Kar Wai in collaboration with Duo Yun Xuan Art Centre.
The Dining Room
The heart of Mi Shang, the Dining Room is where Wong Kar Wai's In the Mood for Love and Happy Together aesthetics are the most apparent. For food, expect Italian classics paired with Chinese ingredients, dreamed up by executive chef Lorenzo Lunghi of Ristorante Torre, who has worked in multiple Michelin-starred kitchens, including Ristorante Gambero Rosso and Saturne.
The Terrace
Ever heard of Arcadia Hall? Opened in 1885, it was a major entertainment venue that enjoyed its heyday in the late 19th and early 20th century. It is reimagined in The Terrace, a breezy, open-air space where visitors can lounge at 1930s Italian bamboo tables and chairs framed by greenery and a colonnade.

Edinburgh Fringe show aims to spark conversation on sex and disability

Aaron Pang was influenced by his own experience of navigating dating as a disabled person to create Falling: A Disabled Love Story. Speaking to The National, Pang – who is based in the US – reflected on the preconceived notions that able-bodied people have around disability and sex. His show explores the complicated world of online dating, drawn from Pang's own experience of using a cane following a spinal cord injury at the age of 18 – and being unsure whether to show the cane in his profile. READ MORE: Comedian cancels Fringe show over 'terror' charge bail conditions' "The few times I haven't [shown the cane], and I meet someone, they always lean in and ask what happened – the show is trying to answer that question," he told The National. "I'm tired of answering the question to each individual person, so I'm trying to pack every single Uber driver and curious auntie and random stranger on the street into a room and get it done in one go." Falling: A Disabled Love Story challenges the narrative around disability, offering an unflinching insight into online dating, paying for sex and navigating intimacy. "The goal is to change people's minds," Pang said. "This is a thing that not a lot of people think about, in terms of how disabled people date and how they have sex and how they find love." Pang added that people often avoid talking about disability and sex, or they might pretend or assume that disabled people don't have sex. He told The National: "People don't think about disabled people as sexual beings, they think about, 'you need to learn how to walk, you need to heal first'. "But I've healed as much as I can, it's time to move on with life – there's all sorts of life to be lived. Pang said that assumptions around sex and disability often depend on cultural standards. He told The National: "A lot of western cultures are very hush, hush about it, because they don't want to make you feel bad, because they think that they have some preconceived notion that it might get in the way. READ MORE: Alba playwright puts his money where his mouth with Fringe show "In reality, I do want to talk about it, I'm comfortable talking about it. It's them who are uncomfortable." Reflecting on his Chinese background, he said: "In eastern cultures they can be a lot more blunt, which is sometimes a benefit as opposed to people tiptoeing around it, and it can be very uncomfortable." 'Disabled stories are our stories' It is Pang's first time at the Edinburgh Fringe – and the first large piece of work he is performing as a solo artist. While he feels excitement, there is also a level of apprehension, particularly when it comes to considerations around accessibility that able-bodied people are less likely to need to take into account: Access to venues, Edinburgh's cobblestones, or the need to preserve energy for the day. Pang said that Pleasance – which runs the venue he is performing in – has been "on top of accessibility". He stressed the importance of the Edinburgh Fringe being a festival which is not only accessible to everyone, but also platforms disabled artists and their stories. READ MORE: I'm performing at the Fringe but fear I won't be allowed to re-enter the US The team behind Falling: A Disabled Love Story is Pang, who stars in the show, and his partner Connie Chen, who is the show's director and is also disabled. Pang stressed the importance of having the show created and led by disabled people, as he told The National: "This is disabled art at its core, and it's really important that it is disabled people forming it." He added: "We are the future. Everybody becomes disabled. You either die early or you become disabled. "Disabled stories are our stories." Falling: A Disabled Love Story is at Pleasance Courtyard (Bunker 2), July 30 to August 25 at 3pm.

Six of the best cocktail bars to visit in Edinburgh

Eager to discover them for yourself? From a speakeasy spot named as one of the 'World's 50 Best Bars' to a quirky venue that explores Leith's historical ties with shipping and global trade, here are six of the best cocktail bars to visit in Edinburgh this summer. Hey Palu 49 Bread Street Despite having put many others to the test, this modern Italian cocktail bar in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town gets my vote for serving the best dirty martini in the city. Served straight from the freezer at -19 degrees, their take on the classic is crafted with vodka, dry sherry, olive oil and the inspired addition of truffle cheese-stuffed olives. But even if a stiff mixed drink isn't your style, you're sure to find a new favourite on a brilliant menu which has rightfully earned Hey Palu a spot in the UK's Top 50 Cocktail Bar rankings for 2025. Read more: Eight Scottish cocktail bars named amongst best in the UK Panda & Sons 79 Queen Street You're likely to have heard of Panda & Sons even before reading our list thanks to their incredible run of award wins over the years. The underground bar hidden beneath a barber shop facade on Queen Street is currently ranked at number 30 in a list of the World's 50 Best Bars, while founder and 'head panda' Iain McPherson is ranked number one on the prestigious Drinks International Bar World 100 list, recognising him as the "world's most influential bar professional". Despite all these impressive accolades, Panda & Sons remains a wonderfully relaxed bar with a cracking team of staff eager to help you navigate their 'Transcend' menu full of drinks created using innovative freezing techniques. You can read all about our visit to the bar in February this year here: 'What makes this hidden cocktail bar the best in Scotland?' or learn more about McPherson here: The award-winning bartender keeping Scotland's innovative spirit strong. The Last Word 44 St Stephen Street In our recently published chef's guide to food and drink for Edinburgh's festival season, Nadair's Sarah Baldry chose this St Stephen Street venue as her favourite bar in the city. The chef (unsurprisingly) has great taste, and I wholeheartedly agree with her description of the Last Word's mixed drinks as 'super elegant and clean'. Nab a seat by the window and spend the evening exploring a menu full of unexpected flavour combinations like Pensador mezcal, red grapefruit and Sichuan spices (Paper Dragon) or samphire vodka, smoky cherry, Lillet blanc and tiki bitters (King Lear). Old Pal 28 West Maitland Street A relative newcomer to Edinburgh's bar scene, Old Pal opened just last summer in the city's West End. This place has a chilled, neighbourhood feel with a great team of staff to help you choose from fresh, fruity numbers like a watermelon hibiscus smash or sophisticated nightcaps, including the Chocolate Toronto with J.P. Wiser's whisky, maple syrup, and cocoa. If you're feeling peckish, the pork adobo slider with pineapple and chilli salsa is the perfect light bite to accompany an evening cocktail or two. Nightcap 3 York Place Anyone searching for a late-night cocktail spot during this year's festival season should look no further than Nightcap on York Place. Open from 5pm to 3am seven days a week, it's a small space with cosy corners that fill up fast, but that only adds to the intimate vibe as day turns to night in the city. On the menu, there are plenty of familiar classics as well as more experimental seasonal specials like the 'feta cheese, mezcal, marmalade negroni' that's said to be proving a huge hit with customers this summer. Read more: Nauticus 142 Duke Street If you find yourself in Leith, be sure to stop by this quirky nautical-themed bar which champions local producers. A dedication to sourcing the best of Scottish spirits means you'll encounter the likes of Seven Crofts Gin, Dorchadas spiced rum, Old Pulteney Whisky and many more throughout their extensive offering of mixed drinks. Our top tip is to hang on to the menu after ordering, as it's a fascinating read with each chapter tied to a period of time in and around Leith, from tea and spice routes, the gin craze, sherry trade and the key role the area played in the whisky boom.

Kelly previously opened up about how she lost two stone with the help of SlimFast after being unveiled as its brand ambassador in 2019. She told the Daily Star: 'I've dropped two dress sizes, thanks to SlimFast. "It's a simple and effective plan, which is perfect for anyone like me who is always on the go! "I also love that you can eat up to six times a day.' Former glamour model Kelly built a career off the back of her enviable curves in the early noughties, being named FHM's Sexiest Woman in the World in 2015. But she's been open about embracing her changing body as she gets older - insisting she's not trying to hold onto the past. Speaking to OK! Magazine, Kelly said: 'I'm just trying to embrace the changes as I get older. I'm not trying to hold on to the body of my 21-year-old self, I've got to embrace that it's different. Kelly Brook looks stunning as she strips off to green swimsuit on luxury holiday with overwater villa, heart-shaped pool and private butler 'It's tricky though, I was trying a dress on in a shop the other day and, you know, 20 years ago I'd be able to put anything on and feel fabulous. 'But now my boobs aren't as high as they once were, I've got fat rolls on my back, and this and that - but I just embrace it.'
