Leena Tiwari: Meet the reclusive billionaire owner of India's costliest flats
That's not all. Tewari paid over Rs 63.9 crore towards stamp duty and the Goods & Services Tax alone for the registration of the transaction. After accounting for these charges, she has paid a total of nearly Rs 703 crore for the deals.Tewari's stealth move to buy the plush property resonates remarkably with her demeanour. Few may even know that Leena Tewari is among the closest friends of Nita Ambani. Her husband Prashant Tewari, MD at USV, has a similar temperament and is mostly seen as a quiet and long-term strategic thinker. She is among India's richest women, with Forbes estimating her current net worth at $3.9 billion. For decades, the family-run company has braved fierce competition while many of its peers sold out or took on board private equity players to grow their business, or even went for a public listing to raise funds. However, USV has remained owner-driven and grown its revenues to Rs 4,840 crore in FY24, according to data from Tracxn. Industry executives say Leena Tewari shows no rush and prefers a step-wise approach than stray into risky zones. "She has a core team of 10-12 loyal USV executives to oversee the operations. She has a good sense of timing and does not follow hype," a veteran executive told ET.
Her singular focus can be seen from the value of USV's top brands. The anti-diabetes drug Glycomet, for instance, is the second leading product in the Indian pharmaceutical market with sales of Rs 806 crore, ranking next to antibiotic drug Augmentin of GSK, which grossed sales of Rs 820 crore over the last twelve-month period. In blood thinners, USV's Ecosprin and its variants commands a dominant position while Roseday is another popular brand to lower cholesterol in heart patients. But, challenges loom for the future. Glycomet is seeing increasing rivalry from new generation anti-diabetes drugs. USV is looking at a strong position in the insulin business in India. Sources say the company is also keen to develop copies of semaglutide, the material that goes into blockbuster weight-loss brands Ozempic and Wegovy.

Meet man, who saved his company from brink of bankruptcy and turned it into a 200000000000 business, he is...
Agnishwar Jayaprakash, who comes from Chennai, has achieved something truly remarkable that is an inspiration to many. He is the founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace, a company that makes drones. In 2020, his startup was on the verge of shutting down. But during the COVID-19 pandemic, everything changed after Agnishwar used drones to sanitize government buildings and public places during the pandemic. This creative step gave his company both attention and work. The same company that was about to close soon became a Rs. 2,000 crore business. Let's take a look at his journey. His company almost closed in 2020 Before becoming an entrepreneur, Agnishwar was an international-level swimmer who represented India. Agnishwar holds 6 National Records which he created in 2012, Istanbul, Turkey at the World Short Course swimming Championships. He started Garuda Aerospace four years before the pandemic. But by 2020, things weren't going well, and he was thinking of shutting it down. That was also when the COVID-19 crisis hit the world and brought economies to a standstill. Still, Agnishwar, who strongly believed in the power of 'Garuda' (the vehicle of Lord Vishnu), didn't give up. While others were struggling, he saw a new opportunity, sanitizing buildings and public places using drones. He suggested this idea to the Tamil Nadu government, using his agriculture drones for the job. Even though the idea didn't immediately bring in official orders, it was widely covered in the media, giving his company much-needed visibility and recognition. That media exposure helped Garuda Aerospace bounce back stronger than ever. Expansion was full of challenges As time passed, Garuda Aerospace began receiving orders from different state governments to sanitize public buildings. But the journey was far from easy. During the lockdown, getting travel permission for drone pilots to move between states was a big challenge. In fact, Air India had to airlift Garuda's drones and pilots to cities like Chandigarh and Varanasi to ensure the work could be done on time. As more smart cities and even MPs and MLAs began placing orders, Garuda started gaining nationwide recognition. Around the same time in 2020, another opportunity came their way, locust attacks in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The company's agricultural drones were used to help tackle the crisis, proving how useful the technology could be. These events opened up steady revenue opportunities for Garuda Aerospace, which until then was a bootstrapped startup trying to survive. How Garuda took flight Garuda Aerospace's fortunes took a major turn when Elon Musk liked a tweet by Agnishwar Jayaprakash. That one small moment caught the attention of UK-based investor Silver Swan Investments, which led to the company getting its first funding of USD 1 million. As people started to understand more ways to use drones, new orders came in, from the Survey of India for mapping, and from companies to detect faults in wind turbines. From being almost bankrupt in early 2020, Garuda grew rapidly and reached a turnover of Rs. 15 crore by 2021–22. Around this time, the central government also began supporting the drone sector. It made policies easier and even simplified financing for buying agricultural drones. Garuda went on to form partnerships with big global names like Lockheed Martin, Canada CDL Systems, Elbit Systems, and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). A major boost came when MS Dhoni, one of India's most loved cricketers, joined as both the brand ambassador and a co-investor. This made Garuda extremely popular, especially in rural India, and helped the company soar to new heights. Started getting support from all sides In the financial year 2022–23, Garuda Aerospace raised nearly Rs. 20 crore from investors, which took the company's valuation to Rs. 800 crore. That year, the company closed with a turnover of Rs. 47 crore. In the very next year, this figure jumped to Rs. 110 crore. Agnishwar Jayaprakash chose not to join his father's established business, but to carve out his own path. He built a company that today is worth more than his father's 25-year-old business group.

Who is Priya Sachdev? Big fight over heir to Rs 30000 crore business empire of Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband Sunjay Kapur
The sudden demise of Sunjay Kapur, a prominent figure in the Indian automotive field and Chairman of Sona Comstar, has left everyone in shock. Sunjay Kapur, who was also the ex-husband of actor Karisma Kapoor, passed away on June 12 in England at the age of 53, following a heart attack while playing polo. Just days after his death, the company appointed Jeffrey Mark Overly as the new Chairperson on June 23. Who is Priya Sachdev Kapur? What's her connection with Sunjay Kapur? Priya Sachdev Kapoor, the wife of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapoor, is now at the center of the highly publicized dispute involving a business empire worth Rs 30,000 crore. The dispute began to take shape when Sunjay Kapoor's mother, Rani Kapoor, wrote the board of directors, just prior to the company's annual general meeting (AGM) on Friday. What are the shocking claims that are being made by Rani Kapur, mother of the late Sunjay Kapur? Rani Kapur, mother of the late Sunjay Kapur, has written to the Board of Directors and Shareholders of Sona Comstar to refrain from the appointment of any Director(s) in the Company or any other Sona Group Company and further unconditionally defer the Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for Friday (July 25), reported news agency IANS. In her letter, Rani Kapur alleged she was coerced to sign some documents which are being misused to wrest control of the company and usurp the family legacy after her son's death. Rani Kapur stated that, as per the Will left behind by her late husband, Dr. Surinder Kapur, the Founder of Sona Comstar and the Sona Group, she is the majority shareholder in the Company and thereby the only authority to represent the interests of the family in the Company/Sona Group. 'Please postpone this AGM for at least two weeks to be held on a mutually convenient date, so that I may gather all necessary information, please ensure that there is total cooperation from the company and all details are made available to me, so I may gather all the facts together to present to the board,' Rani Kapur has stated in the letter. Rani Kapur has also stated in her letter that her son passed away under mysterious circumstances in the UK, and while she was in mourning, she was coerced into signing documents which are now being used to usurp the company. The letter reads, 'It is unfortunate that while the family and I are still in mourning, some people have chosen this as an opportune time to wrest control and usurp the family legacy.' Rani Kapur has also stated that she has been denied access to her accounts within less than a month of her only son passing away. Why is Priya, Sunjay Kapur's Wife, involved in a Rs 30,000 Crore Succession Battle? Priya was born and raised in a business family in New Delhi. Her father, Ashok Sachdev, was an automobile dealer. According to the Amar Ujala report, she studied Mathematics and Business Management at University College London (UCL) and studied at UCLA. She also had a small role in the 2005 Bollywood film Neal 'n' Nikki. Previously, Priya married hotelier Vikram Chatwal in 2006. Their grand wedding reportedly cost around Rs 100 crore. As per the NDTV report, the grand celebration witnessed VIP guests from 126 countries around the world. Their wedding lasted only five years. In 2011, the couple got divorced. From her first marriage, Priya has a daughter, and after marrying Sunjay Kapur, she had a son with him. According to her LinkedIn, she is currently a Non-Executive Director at Sona Comstar and a Director of Aurum Investments, a Kapur family investment company. Priya began her career in M&A at Credit Suisse First Boston in London before returning to India to lead ventures across automotive retail, insurance, fashion, and e-commerce. She founded TSG International Marketing Pvt. Ltd. and co-created Rock N Shop, one of India's early luxury e-commerce platforms. Priya is now in the spotlight and is probably going to face a difficult legal battle regarding who is going to make decisions in one of India's leading automotive families. And with questions around who has the authority to make decisions for the Sona Group, people are now paying attention to Priya. In 2016, Karisma Kapoor filed a domestic violence case against Sunjay Kapur and his mother, accusing them of physical abuse and claiming Sunjay was involved with another woman. She also filed a dowry harassment case, leading to a summons for Sunjay by the Mumbai police. The couple was already locked in a bitter divorce and custody battle.
