over the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka, calling it proof that the state has turned into "India's crime capital".
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, 'The brazen murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna has once again proven – the BJP and Nitish Kumar have together turned Bihar into India's crime capital. Today, Bihar lives in the shadow of loot, gunfire, and murder. Crime has become the 'new normal' here – and the government is utterly ineffective.'
Appealing to voters, he added, 'Brothers and sisters of Bihar, this injustice can no longer be tolerated.
A government that cannot ensure the safety of your children cannot be trusted with your future. Every murder, every robbery, every bullet – is a cry for change. Now is the time for a new Bihar – where there is progress, not fear. This time, your vote is not just to change the government, but to save Bihar.'
Businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead on July 4 around 11 pm near Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Superintendent of Police (SP) Patna, Diksha, confirmed the incident, stating, 'On the night of July 4, at around 11 pm, we received information that businessman Gopal Khemka has been shot dead in the south area of the Gandhi Maidan.
The crime scene has been secured, and further investigation is underway. One bullet and one shell have been recovered.
'
Director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the case, and will be headed by the SP, City Central.
The incident bears resemblance to the 2018 killing of Gopal's son, Gunjan Khemka, a BJP leader and then state convener of the party's small industries cell.
Gunjan was shot dead at his cotton bandage factory in Hajipur. Following his murder, there was a reported lack of presence by top BJP leadership at the funeral, which left the family disappointed.
Ram Khemka, uncle of the deceased, told TOI at the Gulbi Ghat crematorium, 'Gunjan used to spend 3–4 hours every day working for the BJP. Yet no senior leader or minister even raised their voice against his killing.'
Only a few BJP MLAs, including Nitin Navin, Arun Kumar Sinha, and Sanjeev Chaurasia, were present at the funeral.
Though state BJP president Nityanand Rai visited later, the family had by then decided not to take Gunjan's body to the party office for last rites.
Reacting to the killing, RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari said, 'It is very sad. The government will have to answer as a businessman was killed in the posh area of Gandhi Maidan. The police reached after two hours. It happened near the police headquarters.

From matrubhoomi to karmabhoomi: Bihar BJP reaches out to migrant voters in states
BJP leaders from Bihar are traveling to Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana among other states to hold interactive sessions with migrants who are registered as voters in Bihar and appeal to them to support the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Assembly elections. In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is running this programme in 25 districts, including Saharanpur, Noida, Chandauli, Kushi Nagar, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kanpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Ghaziabad among others, where Bihar-origin people are in significant numbers. The BJP leaders, including state and district party office-bearers, former MLAs and MPs, are spending four to five days every month in the assigned districts of UP, holding meetings with Bihari migrants, social media influencers, NGOs and Chhath Puja committee members. The party has appointed coordinators for every district to facilitate smooth dialogue between the visiting leaders and the migrant voters. A co-coordinator, of Bihar origin, is also appointed. In these meetings, Bihar BJP leaders talk about the development carried out by the NDA government in Bihar. 'If UP is your karmabhoomi (place of work), Bihar is your matrubhoomi (motherland),' is the mantra being used by the BJP leaders to appeal to the voters for their support. 'This programme is part of the BJP's 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' campaign under which the party is reaching out to people of Bihar origin in different states. In UP, this programme is being run in 25 districts. It will continue till the Bihar elections,' said Subhash Yaduvansh, UP BJP general secretary and in-charge of the campaign in the state. Yaduvansh on Saturday held a virtual meeting with the Bihar BJP leaders scheduled to travel to UP in the coming days. According to BJP leaders, an estimated 2 crore people from Bihar have moved to states like UP, Haryana, Delhi and Maharashtra in search of livelihood. Sources said the BJP had started the meetings with Bihar-origin people days after observing Bihar Diwas in different states in March this year. People from Bihar are invited to these programmes, served state-specific cuisine as BJP leaders make their presentation. The BJP leaders are also collecting contact numbers of the visitors and their respective constituency details so that they can contact them again during the polls. BJP national president J P Nadda addressed one such meeting in New Delhi where he accused past RJD governments in Bihar of bringing 'jungle raj' to the state. He appealed to the gathering to vote for Bihar's development as they voted for Delhi in the recent Assembly polls. Organisationally, the BJP has divided Delhi in 14 district units. Delhi BJP's Purvanchal Morcha president Santosh Ojha told The Indian Express that the leaders from Bihar visited all 14 district units of the national capital. He, however, refused to divulge the details of the agenda of these meetings. On the controversy over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, Ojha said none of the Bihar-origin people attending the meetings expressed any problem with EC exercise in the state. In Haryana, these meetings are being held in Sonipat, Gurugram, Panipat and Faridabad districts where a large number of workers in industries are from Bihar. Faridabad BJP district president Pankaj Poojan Rampal said, 'In these meetings, we are not asking people to vote, we are making them aware of the party's policies and what the government is doing.' He said party leaders from Bihar were communicating better with the migrants because of language connect. BJP's former Pataliputra MP Ram Kripal Yadav has visited Faridabad at least four times since April for the interactive sessions. On June 10, he held a meeting with Faridabad Purvanchal Seva Samiti. Haryana BJP has appointed conveners for these meetings in various districts.

‘No Hindi vs Marathi in Maharashtra': Aaditya Thackeray plays down language row, accuses BJP of spreading ‘poison' in state
NEW DELHI: A day after celebrating government's rollback on "Hindi imposition," Shive Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Sunday dismissed the controversy between Hindi vs Marathi in Maharashtra. Thackeray claimed that that the controversy is only on "biased media" and the issue was of "burden of three languages" on students. "I think this controversy is only on biased media or social media. Otherwise, there is no Hindi vs Marathi in Maharashtra. The controversy was just about the burden of three languages on students of Std 1 and why should the third language be Hindi?" Aaditya said. "Several languages are spoken in Maharashtra, but we won't tolerate insult to our mother tongue in our own state. We won't tolerate imposition of any language," he added. On Maharashtra minister drawing a parallel between the ongoing row and the Pahalgam attack, Aaditya said, "There is a lot of poison in BJP's mind when it comes to Maharashtra. Today, BJP has compared Maharashtra to the terrorists in Pahalgam incident - the terrorists whom the BJP could not catch or stop." "It has been three months since the Pahalgam incident, but where did those terrorists go? Nobody knows if they fled to Pakistan or joined the BJP. But comparing them to Maharashtra shows the malice and poison that BJP has for the state," he added. This comes a day after Uddahv Thackeray and Raj Thackeray held a "victory rally" in Mumbai after the government decided to retreat from ots decision to introduce three-language policy in Maharashtra schools, under New Education Policy. Devendra Fadnavis government had issued a Government Resolution (GR) on April 16, making Hindi a compulsory third language for students in Classes 1 to 5 studying in English and Marathi medium schools. The government also announced the formation of a committee under educationist Narendra Jadhav to suggest the way forward and oversee the implementation of the language policy. The panel has been given three months to study the issue and prepare a report. Meanwhile, the three-language policy has now snowballed into a "Marathi identity" crisis in the state, leading to multiple incidents of assault on those who speak Hindi by the workers of different political parties.
