Magic Johnson Reacts to Luka Doncic's Shocking Physical Transformation

Magic Johnson Reacts to Luka Doncic's Shocking Physical Transformation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Throughout Luka Doncic's NBA career, while being clearly one of the best players in the league, his biggest critique has been whether or not he's consistently in shape to withstand an 82-game season and a postseason—without being a liability on the defensive end. While he's proven he can win when it matters most, that critique reached an all-time high this past season, likely because he joined one of the biggest markets and franchises in the world—the Los Angeles Lakers—after a shocking midseason trade from the Dallas Mavericks. But it seems Doncic took all the scrutiny personally. This offseason, his body transformation has become one of the biggest storylines in basketball. He even landed on the cover of "Men's Health," where he opened up about his new regimen: two-a-day workouts, 16-hour fasts, 250 grams of protein per day, and a gluten-free, low-sugar diet. His physical change has even caught the attention of Lakers legend and NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, who reacted to Doncic's new appearance on Tuesday. "I love how Luka is showing his Laker teammates how serious he is about winning a championship in Los Angeles by transforming his body!" Johnson later clarified: "What I meant to say was: I love what I'm seeing from @luka7doncic right now. When a guy comes to LA and totally transforms his body, you know he's not just talking about winning—he's showing it. That's how you set the tone in the locker room and let your teammates know it's time to chase a championship together!" There's now growing optimism that with Doncic back in the United States before he begins training with the Slovenian national team for EuroBasket 2025 in August, he'll sign a long-term extension with the Lakers—who have been eager to lock him in as their next face of the franchise for the foreseeable story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 29, 2025, where it first appeared.

Yankees' Aaron Boone Addresses Giancarlo Stanton Decision After Absence From Lineup

Yankees' Aaron Boone Addresses Giancarlo Stanton Decision After Absence From Lineup originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Right-handed slugger Giancarlo Stanton is in his eighth season with the New York Yankees after eight seasons with the Miami Marlins. The 35-year-old designated hitter made his MLB debut in 2010 and has since emerged as one of baseball's most formidable power threats. He's appeared in five All-Star games, won two Silver Slugger awards and captured the National League MVP in 2017. Stanton has struggled to stay healthy in New York but frequently dominates in the postseason. During last year's run to the World Series, he earned ALCS MVP honors against the Cleveland Guardians. Over six postseason trips with the Yankees, Stanton has a .265 batting average, .994 OPS, 18 home runs and 40 RBIs in 41 games. Stanton missed the start of the 2025 season with tennis elbow in both arms, which caused pain when swinging the bat, but he debuted in June. Ahead of Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, manager Aaron Boone left Stanton out of the lineup, saying, 'Yeah he's good. Just kind of looking at the next stretch of games… This was kind of the day for it.' Tuesday's game at Tampa Bay will be the fifth in a row, and with no off-day until August 7th, Boone decided to give Stanton extra rest. Boone also mentioned Stanton would likely be available for the next four games, including two day games right after a night contest. In 102 at-bats since returning from the IL, Stanton has batted .275 with an .861 OPS and seven home runs. Rays All-Star first baseman Jonathan Aranda exits game after collision with Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton

The Tampa Bay Rays got hit by rain and bit by the injury bug during Thursday's series finale in New York. Three Rays players — first baseman Jonathan Aranda, designated hitter Yandy Díaz and left fielder Chandler Simpson — left the ultimately-rain-delayed game with injuries. Aranda's looked the most serious. It occurred in the top of the fifth inning, half an inning before the delay in the Bronx. With rain dressing the infield, Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton hit a soft ground ball to third base, where Junior Caminero scurried to make a play on the slow roller. Caminero, who came into the day with 10 errors at third base this season, rushed the throw to first. It was off the mark, and Aranda extended to reel it in for the putout. But as the first-time All-Star reached to catch the ball, he intercepted a sprinting Stanton. Aranda's glove, and left wrist, collided with the 6-foot-6, 245-pound Stanton. He dropped the ball and then his mitt before clutching his wrist, hopping in pain and then crouching and falling to the ground. He was attended to by a trainer and Rays manager Kevin Cash. The 27-year-old entered the afternoon slashing .315/.393/.478 with 12 home runs and 53 RBI. He added an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning, helping Tampa Bay chip away at a then-7-0 Yankees lead. Following his injury, Aranda eventually left the field and was replaced by Brandon Lowe, who began the game at second base. José Caballero took Lowe's spot at second. Díaz sustained a right forearm contusion in the top of the fourth inning when he was struck by a pitch from Yankees righty Marcus Stroman. Simpson left the game in the bottom of the third with a left hand injury. He had grounded out in the top half of the frame but didn't remove himself from the contest until he was in left on the other side of the inning.
