IndiGo's Startup Investment Arm Picks Jeh Aerospace as First Bet

Skift09-07-2025
IndiGo's investment in an aerospace startup is a sign that Indian aviation is slowly beginning to think about its long-term independence and technological depth. It signals a shift in how India might eventually build more of the parts that keep its skies moving.
IndiGo on Wednesday announced it has invested in Hyderabad-based startup Jeh Aerospace as its first bet through IndiGo Ventures, a fund aimed at backing early-stage startups in aviation and related industries.
The Indian carrier got regulatory approval last October to launch the fund and has raised INR 4.5 billion ($52.5 million) so far out of an expected INR 6 billion ($70 million).
IndiGo said it wants to back companies that can solve operational headaches and help the airline reduce dependence on global supply chains.
'The fund will also look to invest in consumer startups that have a touchpoint in the passenger journey, such as travel, lifestyle, hospitality, transportation, etc,' the airline said in October.
The companies did not disclose the amount of the investment.
What Does Jeh Aerospace Do?
Jeh Aerospace focuses on making flight-critical components. The company was founded by Vishal Sanghavi and Venkatesh Mudragalla, both of whom previously worked in Tata's joint ventures with global giants like Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
According to an IndiGo press statement, Jeh has locked in long-term contracts worth $100 million with global aerospace clients. The startup also uses artificial intelligence to streamline production, improve quality, and manage complex supply chains more efficiently.
India is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets, but it still imports a lot of aerospace components. With most parts for planes flying in India still coming from abroad, this also leads to delays, higher costs, and sometimes even shortages.
Jeh aims to change that.
"Geographically, the U.S. has the largest aerospace industry and hence the largest markets, and that's why we've established a presence in the U.S., making the U.S.-India corridor a key focus area for us," according to the company website.
This fits in with IndiGo's broader ambition of making India a hub for aviation and aerospace. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers called Jeh Aerospace, 'a homegrown brand that shares our vision.'
'By combining our technical expertise and global footprint, this partnership will propel use of next-generation technology in the aerospace and aviation sector. This investment also strengthens the Indo-U.S. aerospace ties, advances Make-in-India and accelerates innovation, contributing to realising India's potential to become a global aerospace and aviation hub,' Elbers said.
Jeh said it would use the funds to upgrade its facilities, expand AI-driven production, and hire more engineering and production talent. The focus will be on deepening its digital systems and ensuring parts can be made faster, cheaper, and to the exacting standards that international clients expect.

Wilmar to become AWL Agri majority shareholder

Wilmar International is set to become the majority owner of India-based AWL Agri. The Singapore group has agreed to buy more shares in the Fortune edible-oils maker from Indian conglomerate Adani Enterprises. Wilmar International and Adani Enterprises had been partners in the former Adani Wilmar venture until December. Adani Enterprises decided to leave the alliance to invest further in energy, utilities, transport and logistics. At the time, Wilmar International struck a deal buy 31.1% of the venture, which has been renamed AWL Agri. A month later, Adani Enterprises sold another 13.5% stake. In a stock-exchange filing yesterday (17 July), Wilmar said it held 43.9% of AW Agri, with Adani Enterprises retaining 30.4%. Wilmar has agreed to purchase another tranche of shares, representing a further 11-20% of AWL Agri, at Rs275 ($3.19) a share. When this new deal is finalised, Wilmar will hold between 54.9% and 63.9% of the business. The company said it will 'endeavour to bring in strategic partners/ identified investors' for the chunk of the new stake it does not take up. The remaining 10.4% Adani Enterprises owns in AWL Agri will be sold 'to a set of pre-identified investors', the Indian group said. Established in 1999, the now AWL Agri is headquartered in Ahmedabad. The business runs 24 factories in 15 cities. Its operations span edible oils, a wider range of food products and a third division called Industry Essentials, which takes in chemicals. Earlier this week, AWL Agri reported its fiscal first-quarter results covering the three-month period to the end of June. Revenue rose 22% to Rs17.06bn despite a 2% fall in volumes. The company booked higher revenues across its three divisions, although volumes from its edible oils and food and FMCG units fell. 'The company witnessed a temporary volume decline, primarily influenced by the consolidation of its regional rice operations and muted consumer demand. Encouragingly, the core categories delivered healthy volume growth and revenue rose 21% year on year, driven by higher edible oil realisations,' MD and CEO Angshu Mallick said. Profit after tax fell 24% to Rs238m. Last month, Wilmar agreed to acquire UK consumer goods company PZ Cussons' 50% equity stake in their Nigerian edible-oils joint venture for a cash consideration of $70m. "Wilmar to become AWL Agri majority shareholder" was originally created and published by Just Food, a GlobalData owned brand. Rangebound patterns tighten rupee's correlation with Indian stocks

By Jaspreet Kalra MUMBAI(Reuters) - The Indian rupee and local equities have been increasingly moving in sync over the past month as muted portfolio flows alongside lingering uncertainty over U.S. tariffs continue to cloud investor sentiment. The rupee's 30-day correlation with the benchmark Nifty 50 index has tightened to 0.66, the highest level since mid-May, pointing to the currency's increased sensitivity to moves in local stocks. On the day, the Nifty 50 was down about 0.6%, while the rupee dipped to last quote at 86.2025 per U.S. dollar as of 10:50 a.m. IST, down 0.1%. Local equities diverged from regional peers, led by losses in financial stocks. Asian currencies, meanwhile, were trading mixed and the dollar index was little changed at 98.5. Amidst the largely rangebound moves, the rupee's 1-month implied volatility has eased to a near one-month low of 4.2%, while the stock volatility gauge, India VIX, has retreated to 11.6 from around 14 a month earlier. Foreign portfolio flows, a key driver for both the rupee and local stocks, have also been muted, contributing to rangebound price action, a trader at a state-run bank pointed out. Both the local equity and FX markets are "lacking a clear direction right now," said Apurva Swarup, vice president at Shinhan Bank India, referring to the rangebound moves. News on the U.S.-India trade deal would be key to watch, as it could push stocks and the rupee to move out of their prevailing ranges, Swarup added. The United States is very close to a trade deal with India, U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier this week. Country-specific reciprocal tariff rates on exports to the U.S. are slated to go into effect starting August 1. On the day, dollar bids from foreign and local private banks weighed on the rupee, with traders also pointing to heightened demand to buy dollars at the daily reference rate.
