New stamps celebrate The Wombles and Elisabeth Beresford
The stamps feature the 4ft (1.2m) English oak sculptures of The Womble characters by artist Mike Burgess which are part of The Wombles Trail around the island.Each stamp captures a Womble in situ around Alderney.A statue of Madame Cholet is at Alderney Harbour, Great Uncle Bulgaria is at the airport, Tobermory is at Mannez Train Station, Orinoco is sat on a children's 'whisper seat' at the Butes Playground, Wellington stands on the hospital roundabout and Alderney is in the Le Clonque Car Park.Beresford, many of whose books were set on Alderney, was appointed an MBE in 1998 for her services to children's literature.

WHILE all eyes were on Harry and the King's spin doctors together having fun in the sun, it's more revealing to see who wasn't there. Worse still, they had not even been invited. Harry has made it clear he wants to bond with his father again but no offers are made to William. The Sussexes appear to be offering the hand of friendship but are they actually trying to force a wedge between the King and the future King? If they can get the King onside then they can isolate William. Divide and rule. William is right to stick to his guns as he is in a better head space now, is no longer seething and has moved on - but is still waiting for Harry to apologise. While Harry 'love-bombs' his father - who has not locked the door or thrown away the key to reconciliation - let's not forget it has been his older brother who has consistently made big gestures. It was William who kindly took him and Kate out of the Royal procession at Harry and Meghan's final royal engagement, the 2020 Commonwealth Day ceremony, after learning the Sussexes had also been removed. It was William who stood shoulder to shoulder with Harry to unveil a statue of Princess Diana at Kensington Palace less than three months after the Oprah Winfrey interview. It was William who agreed to wear a morning suit at Prince Philip's funeral instead of military uniform to spare Harry's blushes. It was William who invited Harry and Meghan to join him and Kate to look at flowers left in Windsor for Queen Elizabeth II after he death in a show of unity. And it has never been William who has publicly trashed his family. The King and Prince William should hopefully see through any attempt to divide them and they must stick together. Royal happy families cannot happen if Harry tries to cut off his father from his brother and next time a bottle is handed over as a gift we hope it's cordial.

A new set of stamps is celebrating the popular characters from children's literature, The stamps feature six of the wooden sculptures depicting the fictional creatures created by Elisabeth Beresford who lived in Alderney for more than 30 of philatelic at Guernsey Post, Bridget Yabsley, said the "delightful" stamps captured "the nostalgia of The Wombles that are much loved by many generations".Although the stamps are available to pre-order, Guernsey Post said the designs were at Buckingham Palace awaiting royal approval. Dementia-friendly festival in Guernsey appeals for singers
Organisers of a festival that aims to provide a "welcoming, safe and enjoyable space" for people with dementia are appealing for people to join a choir to perform at the event. The Dementia Friendly Festival was due to take place at Saumarez Park on Saturday 6 Friendly Guernsey said there would be performances from Mike Le Huray, Singing from the Heart Community Choir, John Le Sauvage, Charlie Sherbourne and the Nightbirds and Clameur de encouraged people interested in joining a choir for the event to get in touch. Performances at the event included small changes to create a more comfortable environment including turning down the volume of music, said Mitchell, festival organiser and Dementia Festival Guernsey trustee, said: "Building on the success of the previous years we are planning to continue to host the event annually and have a great line up again this year".Tickets for the free event are available online.
