Mother charged in stabbing, fire that left 4-year-old dead, 2 kids hurt in Logan Square
Wendy Tolbert, 45, was arrested moments after Chicago police said she had fatally stabbed her 4-year-old son with a knife. She was charged with 14 felony counts, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated arson, and battery.
A four-year-old boy died from his injuries on Friday. A 13-year-old girl was also critically injured, and a 10-year-old boy was in serious condition.
Police said she set fire to the home on Friday just after 9:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of West Palmer Street, knowing the children were inside the home.
Sources close to the investigation told CBS News Chicago the 911 call came from the 13-year-old girl who was stabbed multiple times in her chest, back, and face. At last check, she and her brother, who was stabbed in his arm, are still in the hospital.
The Department of Child and Family Services said the family has never received services from the state agency and is working with law enforcement on this incident.
Tolbert will appear in front of a judge at a detention hearing Sunday afternoon.

An 80-year-old man is behind bars after he allegedly killed his wife with a hammer inside their Maryland home. Vivian Stewart Nation was arrested on first-degree murder charges in the death of 78-year-old Beverly Rose Fletcher. Police responded to the couple's home at the Leisure World senior community in Montgomery County, Maryland, around 6 p.m. on Saturday to find Fletcher unresponsive. A hammer was still pressed against her neck and a bloodied knife and screwdriver were found nearby, according to court documents obtained by The Washington Post. Authorities said Fletcher had suffered multiple stab wounds and there were signs of blunt force trauma. Nation, who had blood on him at the scene, was taken in for questioning where he reportedly told detectives the couple had argued over an issue with his doctor before he pushed his wife to the ground. 'He then got on top of her and pushed a hammer against her throat, pressing the hammer down with both hands,' according to the court documents. Nation is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

After hearing seven weeks of testimony from prosecution witnesses, Diddy's jury returned three not-guilty verdicts. The Department of Justice angered MAGA conspiracy theorists Monday with a memo stating sex offender Jeffrey Epstein didn't keep a 'client list' linking celebrities and public officials to sex trafficking. The declaration comes on the heels of Attorney General Pam Bondi indicating to Fox News that such a document was 'sitting on my desk' waiting to be scrutinized in February. For months Bondi claimed significant information about the disgraced financier that was ignored by the Biden administration would come to light. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Justice Department spokesperson Chad Gilmartin told reporters Monday that Bondi meant to say all of the files regarding Epstein were on her desk — though not a specific list of co-conspirators — when she previously commented on the matter. Epstein had been linked to numerous well-known figures in show business and politics including Donald Trump, who once told New York magazine the convicted sex offender was a 'fun' guy to be around. 'It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side,' Trump acknowledged. Epstein was also known to spend time with former President Bill Clinton and philanthropist Bill Gates. Neither of those men, nor Trump, are charged with wrongdoing. Monday's announcement didn't sit well with 'Infowars' host Alex Jones and X owner Elon Musk. 'This is very, very painful and nauseating,' Jones ranted on a video posted to X Monday.
