Home Minister launches ‘Mane Manege Police' to promote people-friendly policing in Karnataka

The Hindu18-07-2025
Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Friday launched 'Mane Manege Police' (Police to Every Home) initiative, aimed at fostering people-friendly policing and bridging the gap between citizens and the police department.
Dr. Parameshwara described the initiative as the first of its kind in the country and emphasised that it would help build a sense of brotherhood and trust between the public and the police.
'Let's go to people's doorsteps and listen to their problems. When we solve their issues, they will begin to form a positive opinion about the department,' he told police officers during the launch.
As part of the initiative, beat officers at every police station across the State are required to visit homes within their jurisdiction, interact with residents, gather details about their neighbourhoods, and note any law and order concerns they may have.
The officers are expected to record the data collected during these visits, enabling the police to gain a deeper, real-time understanding of their jurisdiction.
Although the Home Minister officially launched the programme on Friday, implementation had already begun at the field level.
Dr. Parameshwara said that the initiative would be periodically reviewed and necessary changes would be made based on its effectiveness.

Dayananda won't return as Bengaluru police chief, says home minister Parameshwara

Bengaluru: Home minister G Parameshwara ruled out reinstating B Dayananda as Bengaluru city police commissioner, insisting that although his suspension has been revoked following a cabinet decision, he will not return to his previous post. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "The govt will assign him a post equivalent to his cadre," Parameshwara said. Dayananda was among five senior police officers who were suspended following the June 4 stampede during RCB's IPL victory celebrations at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Eleven people died in the incident. While the govt rolled back the suspension of four of them, the suspension of additional commissioner (west) Vikash Kumar Vikash remains in effect. Parameshwara said the decision to revoke the suspension was in line with administrative procedures and not a rollback of accountability. "The departmental inquiry will continue," he said. On the lone officer still under suspension, he said, "Since the officer approached CAT (Central Administrative Tribunal), this opportunity was not available. If CAT directs the govt to revoke the suspension like other officers in the incident, then it will be considered." He added that the revocation does not weaken the govt's stand on the incident. "It is not a setback as it was a govt decision," he said. 'Police will act on Ramya's complaint' Parameshwara said police will act on a complaint filed by actor-politician Ramya against fans of actor Darshan, who allegedly issued threats to her. "Such incidents should not happen in future. Today it is Ramya, tomorrow it could be someone else. Somewhere a full stop must be put to such things," he said. Parameshwara added that the police commissioner would issue directions to officials and that he too would ensure such incidents don't recur. Ramya had met commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh Monday and filed a complaint.

Karnataka BJP demands CM, Home Minister's resignation over drug factory bust in Mysuru

Bengaluru: The Karnataka BJP Yuva Morcha has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara over the drug factory bust in Mysuru, the native city of the CM. Four men, including a mechanical engineer, were arrested in a raid conducted by Mumbai's Saki Naka police team in Mysuru last Saturday. The team busted a drug manufacturing facility on the outskirts of the city and seized 188 kilograms of mephedrone drugs with an estimated value of Rs 383 crore. Speaking at a press conference held at BJP's state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan, on Tuesday, BJP Yuva Morcha State President and MLA Dheeraj Muniraj has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara, holding them morally accountable for the drug manufacturing case uncovered by the Mumbai Police in Mysuru — the home district of the Chief Minister. Dheeraj Muniraj insisted that the Congress government must take strict action against drug-related activities. He announced that the BJP Yuva Morcha would stage a protest in Mysuru on Wednesday (July 30) against the district administration and the Superintendent of Police. He said the government, the CM, and the Home Minister must take stern action and ensure that no one else becomes involved in such criminal activities. 'Strict measures should be taken against the officers who collaborated and politicians who supported the racket,' he demanded. MLA Dheeraj added that the Yuva Morcha would also intensify its anti-drug campaign in Bengaluru and eventually across all districts of Karnataka. He questioned whether the state government is misusing the police system and running the administration with money from illegal drug trafficking. 'If drug suppliers are based in the constituency of the AICC President, and manufacturing is happening in the home district of the Chief Minister, then what are we even supposed to ask? This sends a terrible message,' he questioned. The BJYM strongly condemned the drug network and the government's inaction, warning that the youth would fall prey to addiction if the Narcotics Control Bureau failed to act decisively. He pointed out that in the past year alone, over Rs 1,300 crore worth of drug seizures have been reported. 'Even though Maharashtra Police conducted a drug bust in Kalaburagi, the Karnataka government took no action,' he alleged. Highlighting the deteriorating state of law enforcement, Dheeraj said, 'The Maharashtra Anti-Narcotics Squad conducted a raid near Mysuru — the CM's home district — and discovered a synthetic drug manufacturing unit operating behind a car service centre. How can this happen without the knowledge of the local police?' He recalled that since the Congress came to power, the drug menace had worsened, starting with the drug seizure at Mangaluru Port in 2023. He also mentioned the recent arrest of Kalaburagi Block Congress President Lingaraju by the Mumbai Police, implying that his political connections are well-known to the public. 'The drug peddling case in Kalaburagi and now the fact that drugs were being manufactured in the CM's home district and supplied from the AICC President's constituency — this is a blot on Karnataka,' he said. 'What are the police and the narcotics units doing?' he asked, noting that in 2024, CM Siddaramaiah and Home Minister Parameshwara had announced a 'Drug-Free Karnataka' app, which has yielded no results. He also criticised the breakdown of law and order in the state. He noted that the Mysuru Commissioner had suspended Narasimharaja Police Station Inspector Lakshmikant Talwar in connection with the case. 'How can this happen without the knowledge of the police? The intelligence wing is under the CM's control. If this is the situation in his district, what might be the state of affairs elsewhere in Karnataka?' he questioned. He expressed concern that drug trafficking and consumption are fuelling a rise in rowdy elements and violence. 'It's unfortunate that drugs are now being manufactured right here,' he said. BJYM State General Secretary Sandeep Ravi, State Secretary Deepak Kumar, and former Bengaluru Central District President Abhilash Reddy were also present at the press conference.

Home Minister directs police to act seriously on drugs

Bengaluru: Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday said he has issued directions to all Police Superintendents and Commissionerates across the state to ensure local police stations take drug-related activities seriously and initiate action. The direction follows the recent bust of an MDMA drug manufacturing facility in Mysuru by the Maharashtra police. Acknowledging this as a lapse on part of the local police, he said directions have been given to take action against those officials involved. An MDMA drug manufacturing facility was raided here by Maharashtra police in coordination with the Mysuru City police on Saturday, police sources said. A large quantity of MDMA or ecstasy was seized during the raid, and four people have been arrested and taken to Mumbai, where an FIR had been registered. 'Mumbai police, I believe they caught somebody, either a peddler or a user I don't know exactly and they have traced it back to Mysuru. Obviously, the person whom they have caught has made a statement that it (MDMA) was outsourced from Mysuru. They have come in search of it and found that some people were doing this in a shed in Mysuru,' Parameshwara said. Addressing reporters here, he said, 'The question is how porous we are in terms of looking at all these things. That is why I have given very strict instructions to our commissionerate in Mysuru, also generally throughout the state. Every SP has been sensitised now and every commissionerate has been given very strict instructions that such things do not happen. Otherwise, what is the use of us being there as police?' Expressing concern over the production of MDMA at a facility in Mysuru, the Home Minister said he has sought action against the officials at the local police station. 'Because, if the jurisdictional police are not aware of such activities and if some other agency or other state police come and raid and make arrests, naturally it shows lapses. So I have asked for action to be taken and also to sensitise the police across the state to take the drug related activities seriously,' he added. Following the raid, Inspector of Narasimharaja Police Station, Lakshmikant Talwar, was suspended pending a departmental inquiry, officials said.
