Coco Gauff Offers Personal Solution After Wimbledon Disappointment
American tennis star Coco Gauff says she felt 'mentally overwhelmed' after winning the French Open and knows she must make changes if she wants to succeed at Wimbledon in the future.

On Tuesday, Gauff suffered a shock defeat in the first round at the All England Club. She lost 7-6 (3), 6-1 to Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska, ending her hopes of a deep run at the grass-court major.
'Mentally, I was a bit overwhelmed with everything that came after [Roland-Garros]. I didn't feel like I had enough time to celebrate and also get back into it,' Gauff explained after her match.
Gauff, who is ranked No. 2 in the world, struggled with her serve and made 29 unforced errors. She hit nine double-faults, which made it difficult for her to handle Yastremska's fast and powerful shots.
'I could have used more matches on grass. If it comes around again, I'll do it differently. I definitely need to make changes if I want to be successful here,' Gauff said.

Before the tournament, Gauff spoke about how special Wimbledon is for her. In 2019, at just 15 years old, she reached the fourth round and became one of the sport's rising stars.

But since that big moment, she has not advanced past the fourth round at Wimbledon in any of her six appearances.
This year, her Wimbledon hopes ended quickly. Yastremska took control of the match in 78 minutes, leaving Gauff to think about what she might do differently next year.
Gauff shared that she only practiced on grass for two days before Wimbledon began. She usually avoids playing tournaments the week before a major because it's a fast turnaround. Now, she's considering a new approach.

'It's like finding the puzzle,' she said. 'Trying to learn if it's better to train more or maybe play Bad Homburg or Eastbourne.'
Despite her disappointment, Gauff refused to blame her defeat entirely on her own schedule. She praised Yastremska's aggressive play. 'I felt like I wasn't playing terribly in some points, and she was hitting winners,' she admitted.
For now, she's focused on recovering, training and finding the right balance so she can return stronger and less overwhelmed the next time Wimbledon comes around.

Red Bull Boss Picks Max Verstappen's Replacement Amid Mercedes Rumors
Red Bull Boss Picks Max Verstappen's Replacement Amid Mercedes Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Red Bull boss Christian Horner may have just dropped the most unexpected name yet in Formula 1's swirling driver market drama. With Max Verstappen's future at Red Bull still the hottest topic in the paddock, especially as Mercedes continue to circle, Horner was asked directly if he had a 'Plan B' in case the reigning champion decides to jump ship. Advertisement His response? A cheeky point at McLaren CEO Zak Brown, standing right next to him, before blurting out: 'Oscar Piastri.' The moment, caught driving a media scrum at Silverstone ahead of the British Grand Prix, set social media buzzing. Of course, Horner was joking, at least on the surface. But in a season where Verstappen's rumored exit clauses and Mercedes' aggressive interest are fuelling non-stop headlines, even tongue-in-cheek comments hit differently. Max Verstappen during FP3 at Canadian Kirouac-Imagn Images Piastri, currently locked in with McLaren, has emerged as one of the grid's most impressive young stars. The 24-year-old Australian sits first in the championship heading into Silverstone, just ahead of teammate Lando Norris, and has proven he's more than ready to fight for the title. Advertisement Meanwhile, Verstappen's own contract saga rumbles on. Despite being signed at Red Bull through 2028, performance-related clauses have left the door cracked open for Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, especially if Verstappen were to slip outside the top four by the summer break. For now, Horner insists there's 'no reason to worry,' reiterating that Verstappen is committed to Red Bull. Still, his playful nidge at Brown shows how alive the intrigue truly is. In a silly season already overflowing with twists, even offhand jokes keep the rumor mill roaring. 'We expect him to be back right after the All-Star break.' Advertisement Mendoza said he didn't anticipate that Buttó will need to go on a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment. A 27-year-old right-hander, Buttó is 2-1 with a 2.47 ERA in 31 relief appearances, the last a two-inning outing at Pittsburgh last Saturday. New York recalled right-hander Chris Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse. Brought up for the fourth time this season, the 34-year-old right-hander has made four appearances for the Mets. Right-hander Kodai Senga, sidelined since June 12 by a strained right hamstring, is to start a rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Binghamton. He is to throw 60-65 pitches, according to Mendoza, and soon could return to New York's injury-ravaged rotation. 'We'll see how it goes tomorrow and then see how he responds and we'll have a decision after that,' Mendoza said.
