Time of India15-07-2025
New Delhi: A 35-year-old man died after falling from the second floor of a sweet shop in northeast Delhi's old Mustafabad early Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Kalyan, son of Deviram, a resident of the area who worked at the same shop.
According to police, a call was received around 12.38 am on July 15 regarding a person who fell from the second floor of Shabbir Sweet Shop in Gali No. 2. "A team from Dayalpur police station rushed to the spot and found the man lying on the road in an injured condition. He was immediately rushed to GTB Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival," a senior police officer said.
"Preliminary inquiry suggests that the man may have fallen accidentally as his bed is at the same height as the window on that floor, but the exact cause is yet to be confirmed," the officer added. Crime and forensic science laboratory (FSL) teams examined the site, and legal proceedings have been initiated. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances that lead to the fall.

Badge of dishonour: 2 cops arrested for diverting 75L of cybercrime proceeds

New Delhi: Two sub-inspectors from Delhi Police have been arrested in Indore for allegedly duping cybercrime victims of Rs 75 lakh. The case, reported in April, involved sub-inspector Ankur Malik, who was posted with the cybercrime police station in northeast Delhi, and a woman sub-inspector posted at the Mansarovar Park police station in Shahdara. SI Malik was investigating multiple cyber fraud cases where defrauded amounts were recovered and several bank accounts were frozen as part of the probe. During the process of returning the seized funds to victims, Malik and his associate allegedly provided bank account details under their control instead of those belonging to the actual complainants. This allowed them to reroute the recovered money to accounts accessible to them. According to police sources, frozen funds were allegedly siphoned off in this manner. The fraudulent transactions—totalling around Rs 75 lakh—were carried out using judicial orders obtained dishonestly, issued in the names of fake or forged complainants. The officers allegedly executed four such fraudulent transactions to transfer the money. SI Malik went on leave in March. The woman officer went missing a few days later. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Birla Evara 3 and 4 BHK from ₹ 1.75 Crore* Birla Estates Learn More Undo When Malik failed to return to duty, a missing person complaint was lodged. A raid was conducted, leading to their arrest. From the premises, police recovered Rs 12 lakh in cash, 820 grams of gold coins and bars, 200 grams of gold jewellery, 11 smartphones, an HP laptop, three ATM cards, and several incriminating documents. During interrogation, the accused officers revealed the names of their accomplices who provided the bank accounts used in the fraud. Based on this information, police conducted further raids and arrested three more individuals — identified as Mohammad Ilyaas, Arif, and Shadab — for facilitating the illegal transfers.

Truck with disaster: Violations surge 46%

New Delhi: In July, trucks have been involved in two major fatal accidents in south Delhi, highlighting the menace of heavy vehicles on the roads. According to Delhi Police data, so far this year, heavy vehicles were involved in 82 fatal accidents, causing 85 deaths and injuring 187 people. Last year, 87 fatal crashes ended up claiming 89 lives and injuring 205 persons in the corresponding period. The data shows that during this period, traffic violations by heavy vehicles increased by 46% from last year. While 17,776 challans were issued in the first six months of 2024, this year, 26,025 challans have already been issued. Violations of restriction of time (no entry) also surged notably, from 4,108 to 7,326. Jumping traffic signal, while showing a slight decline, remained high, with 1,766 cases in 2024 and 1,401 in 2025. The number of heavy vehicle drivers not using seat belts went up from 702 to 1,120, highlighting safety concerns. Vehicles operating without a pollution under control certificate (PUCC) were reported 686 times in 2024 and 914 this year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Knee Pain Knee pain | search ads Find Now Undo Violations related to disobeying lawful directions went up steeply, from 118 to 415. Trucks carrying sand or dust without proper covering (no entry) almost doubled, rising from 157 to 295. Vehicles operating without fitness certification decreased slightly, from 92 to 81, the data showed. According to an officer, these violations mostly increase at night. Once the no-entry period ends, drivers of heavy vehicles tend to speed. Some also try to enter during no-entry hours, the officer said, adding that obstructive parking was another major problem, often causing snarls. A senior police officer said teams have been deployed at various locations to curb violations by heavy vehicles and enforce compliance. Rohit Baluja, president, Institute of Road Traffic Education, said heavy vehicles face a big challenge on Delhi roads, which are not engineered for mixed-traffic conditions, especially as two-wheelers wriggle their way in and around larger vehicles. Footpaths remain encroached upon by vendors, parked vehicles or other debris, forcing pedestrians to walk on the carriageway. Legislation also does not support heavy vehicles, he said. For instance, Delhi Motor Vehicles Rules demand that where bus lanes are segregated and marking on roads or streets have been provided, all buses and goods carriages plying during permitted hours will be confined to the bus lanes, and no other motor vehicle shall enter that space. When accidents occur, heavy vehicles are always labelled as accused, said Baluja. Anil Chhikara, a transport and vehicle expert, said the primary reason behind most of the fatalities involving heavy vehicles is excessive speed. According to him, the accidents could be significantly reduced if speed governor devices are installed and enforced in vehicles across the city. A speed governor, he explained, is a specialised piece of instrument designed to regulate and control the speed of an electric motor or engine, preventing vehicles from exceeding safe speed limits.

HC: Mere custody of child with husband not cruelty

New Delhi: The custody of the child being with the husband can't be the sole ground to allege cruelty or harassment in a marriage, Delhi High Court said recently. It ended the criminal proceedings lodged by a woman against her husband and in-laws. The court found the case to be one of misuse of dowry harassment and cruelty provisions, which were slapped against the husband and his parents just because he sought a divorce. "The matrimonial differences led to the separation, and the custody of the child was with the husband and the petitioners (his parents). However, merely because the child was in the custody of the husband after disputes inter se arose, cannot be equated with cruelty or harassment as envisaged under Section 498A IPC," Justice Neena Bansal Krishna said. Further stating that essential ingredients to attract 498A of the IPC were missing, the court quashed the FIR and chargesheet. It has become an easy tool in the hands of the complainants to settle the scores by getting false FIRs registered containing the exaggerated and manipulated allegations," the court added. The court further observed that the matrimonial relationship did not work out well between the husband and wife. However, "in order to bring the petitioners to their knees and to concede to the expectations of the complainant, the present FIR has been registered."According to the petition, the couple got married in 2007, but soon the wife's behaviour became worse day by day as she was becoming more aggressive and uncontrollable, even against the child born of the union. When the husband later sought a divorce, the wife responded by registering a dowry harassment case against his family.
