KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Drew Rasmussen tossed five innings of two-hit ball, Tampa Bay scored three times in the second on an array of singles and bunts, and the Rays held on the rest of the way to beat the Kansas City Royals 3-0 on Wednesday night.
Rasmussen (7-5) struck out five and walked two before turning it over to the Tampa Bay bullpen on a hot, humid night. Three relievers combined to allow one hit and one walk before Pete Fairbanks handled the ninth for his 14th save.

The Rays (45-35) have won five straight on the road, nine of their last 12 overall and are a season-best 10 games over .500.
José Caballero had an RBI bunt single and Danny Jansen laid down a sacrifice bunt against Michael Wacha during the decisive second for Tampa Bay. Christopher Morel, Josh Lowe and Chandler Simpson had singles in the inning.
Other than that, Wacha (4-7) was tough on the Rays. He went six innings and struck out nine while walking just one.
His biggest problem has been the Royals' biggest problem: They aren't scoring. Not only have they managed four runs total amid a four-game losing streak, they have given Wacha two runs of support or fewer in 13 of his 16 starts this season.

Kansas City has lost nine straight at Kauffman Stadium since beating Detroit on May 31, its longest home skid since dropping 10 in a row in April and May 2023. The Royals also have lost 10 of their last 14 games overall.

USA Track and Field said in a statement to USA Today that the organization was aware of the reports, but did not provide any additional comment. Richardson competed in the USA Track and Field championships in Eugene, Oregon, running in the first round of the women's 100-meter race on Thursday. With a time of 11.07 seconds, Richardson qualified in 11th place, but she has since withdrawn from the competition. She also pulled out of the 200-meter race, where she was scheduled to run this weekend. Because she's the reigning world champion in the 100, she automatically qualifies for September's World Championships in Tokyo in the event.

Young in the lead when Wyndham Championship halted by storms
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Cameron Young made two straight birdies to move ahead of defending champion Aaron Rai and then stuffed his tee shot on the par-3 16th into six feet when storm clouds gathered and halted play Friday in the Wyndham Championship. The second round was to resume at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, and the third round would be played in threesomes starting on both nines at Sedgefield Country Club. Young is considered among the best players to have not won on a major tour, twice contending into the final hour of major championships. He has seven runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour, including the British Open at St. Andrews. Young was at 14-under par. Rai, who won his first PGA Tour title a year ago at the Wyndham Championship, was at 13 under and had just missed the green to the left on No. 14. Mac Meissner had a 7-under 63 and Sungjae Im shot 64 to post at 12-under 128 from the morning round. Mark Hubbard shot a 66 and was another shot behind. Hubbard needs at least a three-way tie for second to advance to the post-season. The Wyndham Championship is the final tournament in the regular season, with the top 70 advancing to the lucrative post-season. The 36-hole cut was shaping up to be 4 under — possibly 3 under if scores got worse when the round resumed Saturday — and that meant some seasons were over for players like Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., and Zach Johnson. Ben Silverman of Thornhill, Ont., is tied for 82nd at 2 under, while Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C. is tied for 93rd at 1 under. 2025 PFL 8 video: Frederik Dupras puts Nathan Kelly to sleep as referee misses tap
Frederik Dupras, take a bow. At 2025 PFL World Tournament 8, the French-Canadian bounced back into the win column when he defeated Nathan Kelly by technical submission via guillotine choke. The fight was stopped at 4:38 of Round 2 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. A tight guillotine choke began standing as Dupras (9-2) hopped up on Kelly (11-5) and locked in his grip. As the two eventually fell to the canvas, Kelly tapped, but the referee was not in position to see it. So Kelly's neck was squeezed for a few seconds longer before the official recognized consciousness no longer was present. Dupras bounces back from an April loss to Gabriel Braga.
