KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Drew Rasmussen tossed five innings of two-hit ball, Tampa Bay scored three times in the second on an array of singles and bunts, and the Rays held on the rest of the way to beat the Kansas City Royals 3-0 on Wednesday night.
Rasmussen (7-5) struck out five and walked two before turning it over to the Tampa Bay bullpen on a hot, humid night. Three relievers combined to allow one hit and one walk before Pete Fairbanks handled the ninth for his 14th save.

The Rays (45-35) have won five straight on the road, nine of their last 12 overall and are a season-best 10 games over .500.
José Caballero had an RBI bunt single and Danny Jansen laid down a sacrifice bunt against Michael Wacha during the decisive second for Tampa Bay. Christopher Morel, Josh Lowe and Chandler Simpson had singles in the inning.
Other than that, Wacha (4-7) was tough on the Rays. He went six innings and struck out nine while walking just one.
His biggest problem has been the Royals' biggest problem: They aren't scoring. Not only have they managed four runs total amid a four-game losing streak, they have given Wacha two runs of support or fewer in 13 of his 16 starts this season.

Kansas City has lost nine straight at Kauffman Stadium since beating Detroit on May 31, its longest home skid since dropping 10 in a row in April and May 2023. The Royals also have lost 10 of their last 14 games overall.
Key moment
The Royals put runners on the corners in the fourth, but Salvador Perez popped out on his first pitch to end the threat.
Key stat
Kansas City has not hit a home run in its last 54 innings at Kauffman Stadium.
Up next
Rays RHP Shane Baz (7-3, 4.79 ERA) starts the series finale Thursday. RHP Michael Lorenzen (4-7, 4.81) starts for the Royals.

Sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson arrested this week after reported altercation with boyfriend at Seattle airport

Team USA sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested on Sunday after reportedly getting into a fight with her boyfriend at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, according to a police report obtained by multiple media outlets. Richardson was charged with domestic violence, but the case has since been cleared. According to the report from the Port of Seattle Police Department, Richardson got into an argument with her boyfriend, fellow U.S. sprinter Christian Coleman, and began shoving him. Police also said that Richardson threw a pair of headphones at Coleman, per USA Today. Police arrested Richardson for fourth-degree domestic violence assault as a result of security camera footage of the incident. Richardson was booked in South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Wash., on Sunday evening, according to jail records. She was released on Monday afternoon. Richardson and Coleman went public with their relationship in February, though Coleman reportedly told police that the two have been together for two years. Per the report, Coleman refused to press charges and "declined to be a victim," via The Athletic. USA Track and Field said in a statement to USA Today that the organization was aware of the reports, but did not provide any additional comment. Richardson competed in the USA Track and Field championships in Eugene, Oregon, running in the first round of the women's 100-meter race on Thursday. With a time of 11.07 seconds, Richardson qualified in 11th place, but she has since withdrawn from the competition. She also pulled out of the 200-meter race, where she was scheduled to run this weekend. Because she's the reigning world champion in the 100, she automatically qualifies for September's World Championships in Tokyo in the event.

Young in the lead when Wyndham Championship halted by storms

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Cameron Young made two straight birdies to move ahead of defending champion Aaron Rai and then stuffed his tee shot on the par-3 16th into six feet when storm clouds gathered and halted play Friday in the Wyndham Championship. The second round was to resume at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, and the third round would be played in threesomes starting on both nines at Sedgefield Country Club. Young is considered among the best players to have not won on a major tour, twice contending into the final hour of major championships. He has seven runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour, including the British Open at St. Andrews. Young was at 14-under par. Rai, who won his first PGA Tour title a year ago at the Wyndham Championship, was at 13 under and had just missed the green to the left on No. 14. Mac Meissner had a 7-under 63 and Sungjae Im shot 64 to post at 12-under 128 from the morning round. Mark Hubbard shot a 66 and was another shot behind. Hubbard needs at least a three-way tie for second to advance to the post-season. The Wyndham Championship is the final tournament in the regular season, with the top 70 advancing to the lucrative post-season. The 36-hole cut was shaping up to be 4 under — possibly 3 under if scores got worse when the round resumed Saturday — and that meant some seasons were over for players like Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., and Zach Johnson. Ben Silverman of Thornhill, Ont., is tied for 82nd at 2 under, while Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C. is tied for 93rd at 1 under. Max Homa was at 1 under with five holes to play and in dire need of birdies and then a big weekend to avoid missing the playoffs. Adam Scott, at No. 85 in the FedEx Cup, was at 4 under and playing the 15th hole. Young has no such concerns at No. 40 in the FedEx Cup. He is playing Greensboro — he earned an economics degree at Wake Forest — to build on ambitious goals ahead of him. That starts with getting to the Tour Championship and picking up as many points as he can for Ryder Cup consideration. Young grew up in New York — his father was the longtime head pro at Sleepy Hollow — and he had this Ryder Cup circled since the PGA of America announced it was going to Bethpage Black on Long Island. Even with a win this week, Young could only move as high as No. 15 in the standings. The top six automatically qualify in three weeks, after the BMW Championship. 'For me it's not necessarily about this week. I've got a goal. In the middle of September I'd like to be in New York playing on that Ryder Cup team,' Young said. "If I can achieve that, I can achieve a lot of things over these next four weeks. So I'm trying to keep that in mind rather than the little things along the way. 'Not that winning a tournament here would be little, but I think for me kind of looking off in the distance in that way I think will help me just keep trying to trust what I'm doing and build some confidence along the way.' Meissner is at No. 152 and would have to win to advance. Also at stake is finishing in the top 100 at the end of the fall events to keep his card. Gary Woodland delivered the shot of the day, a 7-iron on the par-5 fifth hole that went in for a rare albatross 2. He wound up with a 64, and would have a shot at the post-season with a big week at Sedgefield. 'I've been playing well for a while, and Randy Smith, my coach, has been bugging me to stay patient, just try to hit the shot that's required and have fun,' Woodland said. "When you're not getting the results you want, that's the hardest part is probably to have a little fun. 'I'm in a lot better place than I was a year ago, so trying to enjoy it a little bit. It was nice to see some go in today.' ___ AP golf: The Associated Press

2025 PFL 8 video: Frederik Dupras puts Nathan Kelly to sleep as referee misses tap

Frederik Dupras, take a bow. At 2025 PFL World Tournament 8, the French-Canadian bounced back into the win column when he defeated Nathan Kelly by technical submission via guillotine choke. The fight was stopped at 4:38 of Round 2 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. A tight guillotine choke began standing as Dupras (9-2) hopped up on Kelly (11-5) and locked in his grip. As the two eventually fell to the canvas, Kelly tapped, but the referee was not in position to see it. So Kelly's neck was squeezed for a few seconds longer before the official recognized consciousness no longer was present. Dupras bounces back from an April loss to Gabriel Braga. Ireland's Kelly finds himself on a three-fight skid. Up-to-the-minute 2025 PFL 8 results include: Frederik Dupras def.
