
‘Land lord' Bagh arrested by Vigilance in DA case
On Monday, the anti-corruption agency raided multiple property linked to Bagh during which he was found to be in possession of 84 acre land and assets worth crores.
The land includes a farmhouse on over 40 acre land with drip irrigation facility and agricultural equipment worth Rs 1 crore in Bijaraguda, another farmhouse over 6 acre land amounting to Rs 46.12 lakh at Phatakote, a 27 acre land in Nabarangpur and 11 acre land on the outskirts of Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district.
A 3BHK flat measuring 1,450 sq ft at Gothapatna area in the capital city, one building in Chandrasekharpur Housing Board Colony, an under-construction building spread over 3,000 sq ft and a shopping complex consisting of five shops in Nabarangpur town were also among the assets that were found in possession of Bagh and his family.
Besides, the Vigilance also traced Bagh's bank deposits amounting to Rs 58.41 lakh, gold ornaments weighing 312 gm and household articles worth Rs 9 lakh.
'The accused will be produced in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance Bhawanipatna,' officials said.

Woman seeking help for medical treatment falls prey to online scam
UDUPI: A woman battling cancer fell victim to an online fraud after she sought financial assistance through social media. She allegedly lost Rs 30,000 after a fraudster, posing as a representative from a religious mutt, tricked her into transferring money. In a complaint, she stated that due to high treatment expenses, she appealed for financial help by sharing her bank account details on WhatsApp and Facebook. On July 1, around 10:00 AM, while she was at home, she received a phone call from a person speaking in Kannada, claiming to be calling on behalf of Swamiji from the Mantralaya Raghavendra Swamy Mutt. The caller said they were instructed by the Udupi Krishna Mutt to offer her financial aid of Rs 2.90 lakh. However, he told her she would need to first pay Rs 29,900 as tax. Trusting the caller, the complainant transferred the said amount via PhonePe to the number provided, and the remaining Rs 4,000 in two instalments of Rs 2,000 each using the PhonePe scanner. The accused then told her that the amount would be credited to her account by 11:45 AM and asked her to call him immediately afterward. However, the money never arrived in her account, she alleged Based on her complaint that she was deceived with a false promise of financial assistance, a case was registered at the Malpe Police Station under Sections 318(4) and 112 of the BNS 2023, and Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act.

58 quintals of rice seized in Karnataka's Ajekar; accused flees during raid
Representative Image UDUPI: Officials seized over 58 quintals of rice meant for the govt's Anna Bhagya scheme from a godown in Ajekar on Wednesday. In a complaint, Sumathi, Food Inspector of Karkala Taluk, stated that Manjunath allegedly procured rice meant for the govt's Anna Bhagya scheme from the public and was illegally storing it. Acting on the complaint, Ajekar Police Station PSI Shubhakara and his team conducted a raid at a godown located to the right of Manoj Traders, near Ram Mandir on Ajekar Main Road in Marne village. During the raid, they found rice stored in 151 plastic bags and 14 gunny sacks. Upon inspection, the seized rice was confirmed to be 58 quintals and 40 kilograms from the govt's Anna Bhagya scheme. The rice, estimated to be worth Rs 1.34 lakh, was taken into custody. At the time of the raid, the accused Manjunath fled the scene. It is alleged that he purchased the subsidised govt rice from the public at lower prices with the intent to resell it illegally. A case was registered at the Ajekar Police Station under Sections 3, 6, and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act.

Man loses Rs 2.02 lakh in 98 transactions in WFH scam
Representative Image UDUPI: A man from Hebri fell prey to a work-from-home scam and lost about Rs 2.02 lakh. He alleged that from Dec 19, 2024, to June 20, this year he made a total of 98 transactions, transferring an amount of Rs 2.02 lakh through a scanner and PhonePe. In a complaint, Ramesh said that in Dec 2024, he came across a "work from home" data entry job advertisement by a company named Sun Shine HR Solutions, Bengaluru, on the Local Job app. He applied for the job and was asked to pay Rs 500 for registration on Dec 19, through a scanner link sent by the company. Soon after, he received a message asking for an additional Rs 2,050 as a security deposit. A person named Ranjith then sent him data entry work claiming it was for Amazon , instructing him to complete it within four days. When Ramesh was unable to submit the data within the given time, he was told to pay Rs 2,500 to extend the deadline and again made the payment. Later, citing various reasons such as salary account creation, error modification, error cancellation, and account-related charges, persons identifying themselves as Aishwarya (accountant) and Sridhar (MD) continued to contact him.
