‘Land lord' Bagh arrested by Vigilance in DA case

BHUBANESWAR/ BHAWANIPATNA : Vigilance on Tuesday arrested joint director in the directorate of Soil Conservation and Watershed Development Dayanidhi Bagh for allegedly amassing assets worth several crores disproportionate to his known sources of income. On Monday, the anti-corruption agency raided multiple property linked to Bagh during which he was found to be in possession of 84 acre land and assets worth crores. The land includes a farmhouse on over 40 acre land with drip irrigation facility and agricultural equipment worth Rs 1 crore in Bijaraguda, another farmhouse over 6 acre land amounting to Rs 46.12 lakh at Phatakote, a 27 acre land in Nabarangpur and 11 acre land on the outskirts of Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district. A 3BHK flat measuring 1,450 sq ft at Gothapatna area in the capital city, one building in Chandrasekharpur Housing Board Colony, an under-construction building spread over 3,000 sq ft and a shopping complex consisting of five shops in Nabarangpur town were also among the assets that were found in possession of Bagh and his family. Besides, the Vigilance also traced Bagh's bank deposits amounting to Rs 58.41 lakh, gold ornaments weighing 312 gm and household articles worth Rs 9 lakh. 'The accused will be produced in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance Bhawanipatna,' officials said.

States » East Bhubaneswar, July 1 (UNI) Joint Director of Soil Conservation & Watershed Development, Dayanidhi Bagh, was arrested today by Odisha Vigilance for possessing disproportionate assets. He will be produced before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna, later in the day. Bagh was found in possession of disproportionate assets, including two buildings, a 3-BHK flat, 84 acres of land comprising two farmhouses over 48 acres in Nabarangpur, 312 grams of gold, bank deposits exceeding Rs.58 lakh, and a benami Brezza car. He failed to satisfactorily account for these assets during searches conducted by Vigilance officials. A case has been registered against Bagh, and the investigation is currently underway. BHUBANESWAR: A Vigilance raid on joint director in the directorate of Soil Conservation and Watershed Development, Dayanidhi Bagh, over allegations of amassing disproportionate assets (DA) has revealed that he was in possession of a whopping 84 acre of land and buildings worth crores. Vigilance officials said this is the first time they unearthed such a large land area in the name of a government official and his family members. Bagh was earlier posted as the project director of the watershed wing in Rayagada district. In May, the anti-corruption agency had arrested four officials of the watershed wing in Rayagada for allegedly misappropriating funds to the tune of Rs 20 lakh. He was since under the scanner of Vigilance and recently posted in the Soil Conservation directorate in Bhubaneswar. During searches on Monday, Bagh was found in possession of a farmhouse on over 40 acre of land with drip irrigation facility and agricultural equipment worth Rs 1 crore in Bijaraguda, another farmhouse over 6 acre land amounting to Rs 46.12 lakh at Phatakote, a 27 acre land in Nabarangpur and 11 acre on the outskirts of Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Monday launched simultaneous raids on the properties and office of a Joint Director-rank officer at eight locations in three districts in connection with its probe into his alleged disproportionate assets. The Vigilance department launched the search operations on the properties of the Soil Conservation and Watershed Development Joint Director, Dayanidhi Bagh, following allegations that he amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. The official was a former Project Director (PD) of the Watershed department in Rayagada. 'Simultaneous searches are being conducted by Odisha Vigilance officials led by 10 deputy superintendents of police, eight inspectors, 10 ASIs and other supporting staffers on the strength of search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna,' an officer said. The raids are being carried out at three places in Bhubaneswar, two locations in Kalahandi district and three places in Nabarangpur, the Vigilance officer said. During the raids so far, the Vigilance sleuths detected two farmhouses, a shopping complex and an under-construction building in Nabarangpur district, one flat and a building in Bhubaneswar, 11 acres of land on the outskirts of Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district and bank deposits of Rs 55 lakh. Out of the two farmhouses, one located at Bijraguda is spread over 40 acres of land worth Rs 1 crore, while another farmhouse is spread over 6 acres of land at Phatakote in the same district and is worth Rs 34 lakh. On May 22 this year, the anti-corruption department had arrested four officials of the office of the Project Director of the Watershed department in Rayagada for allegedly embezzling Rs 20 lakh of government money without excavating 23 ponds in different villages of Kashipur block in Rayagada district under MGNREGA. Since then, the former Project Director of the Watershed department in Rayagada was under the scanner of the Vigilance department.
